“So the last will be first and the first last” - MATTHEW 20:16
You’ve heard the saying “it’s not where you start, but how you finish.” This certainly applies to this Bible passage. We have a responsibility not only for our own lives, but for the lives of others as well. We are called to generously share our gifts with others, not hoard them for our own use. Our gratitude and generosity
helps us live “God-centered” lives and not “self-centered” lives.
EL PUENTE COLLECTION
Today we take up a collection for the ministry of El Puente, the Catholic ministry to Hispanics in the Jefferson City region. If you have not contributed, please mark your checks or envelopes and return them to the office as soon as possible. Thank you for your generosity.

Nurse’s Notes
Flu Season has arrived! The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the CDC recommend that virtu-ally everyone six months and older get the flu vaccine. The single best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu vaccine every year. For 2017, the CDC recommends vaccination with an in-jectable flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older before the end of October, if possible. The vaccine for the 2017-2018 flu season has been updated to better match circulating flu viruses.
Trivalent flu vaccines include: Standard-dose trivalent shots (IIV3) that are manufactured
using virus grown in eggs. Different flu shots are ap-proved for different age groups.
A high-dose trivalent shot, approved for people 65 and older. Human immune defenses become weaker with age, which places older people at greater risk of severe illness from influenza. Also, ageing decreases the body's ability to have a good immune response after getting influenza vaccine
A recombinant trivalent shot that is egg-free, approved for people 18 years and older.
A trivalent flu shot made with adjuvant (an ingredient of a vaccine that helps create a stronger immune response in the patient’s body), approved for people 65 years of age and older (new this season).
The quadrivalent flu vaccine is designed to protect against four different flu viruses: two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses. It is available as an intradermal quadrivalent flu shot, which is injected into the skin instead of the muscle and uses a much smaller needle than the regular flu shot. It is approved for people 18 through 64 years of age. There is also a quadrivalent flu shot containing virus grown in cell culture, which is approved for people 4 years of age and older (new this sea-son). However, Quadrivalent flu vaccines may cost more than trivalent vaccines. Check with your provider to see what is best for you.
Please Note: A flu shot cannot give you the flu. Flu vac-cines that are administered with a needle are currently made in two ways: the vaccine is made either with a) flu vaccine viruses that have been ‘inactivated’ and are therefore not infectious, or b) with no flu vaccine viruses at all (which is the case for recom-binant influenza vaccine)
Remember to pray for all our parishioners who are hospitalized, homebound or in residential care; that they be healed and com-forted. Please call the parish if you or a family member is hospi-talized or homebound and you would like a visit from the priests, and/or me to come pray with you and/or assist you with ques-tions and health care concerns. You may contact me at 636-8159x369 or via email [email protected].
September 2017 Intention
