Well the dust has settled on the National, for those of you who do

not Facebook I will repeat my posting.

I am sure we will all have lasting memories of the 10th Labrador

National, acknowledgement and recognition of all who contributed

to the resounding success was made at the National Dinner held at

the magnificent Twin Creeks Restaurant.

I would like to reprise those acknowledgements for those people

who were unable to attend the dinner and all the other people who

have been following our progress on Facebook. Firstly, thanks to

my Committee who spent many hours planning down to the last

detail and in particular three ladies who ensured that those plans

came to fruition:

v Doreen O’Donnell who devised the National artwork,

produced the wonderful full colour Catalogue, sourced the

merchandise and contents of the gift bags.

v Show Secretary Sue McFadden who organised the judges,

stewards, card writers, sponsors, trophies, schedules and

entries plus show day logistics.

v National Show Co-ordinator Colleen Ritchard who facilitated the

wide publicity campaign which reached at least 10,000 people,

created the essential National Handbook, organised the photo-

graphy, canopies, ring layout and the National Show Dinner.

Other Committee contributors were George Bartolo who organised

the Obedience and Jeff Griffiths the RATG and our Treasurer Erin

Charnock for managing the multitude of financial transaction

associated with the supply of services to the show.

The Golden Retriever Club who catered for the welcome breakfast

and official lunches, great food ladies.

BESTOne of theNationalsNationalsEver!!The 10th Labrador Retriever National Sydney NSW

2018 was nothing short of fantastic from start to finish.

It began with the hot buffet breakfast supplied by the

ladies from the Golden Retriever Club of NSW,

followed by our championship show judge Mr Arwyn

Ellis arriving in style in the beautiful Daimler flying

the Welsh flag and the heartfelt opening speech from

our esteemed life member Mrs Pat Dunstan.

I would like to acknowledge the Labrador fraternity

who travelled from all over the country, New

Zealand, Pakistan, Indonesia and South Africa

to compete and watch. Your commitment to your

breed and good sportsmanship was there for all to

see and is to be congratulated.

I would also like to acknowledge the work done behind

the scenes not just by the current committee but

previous committees’, all of which made the 10th

Labrador Retriever National Sydney NSW 2018

such an outstanding success.

Also, a huge thank you to the people outside of the

club for all their efforts. Judges, stewards,

representatives, Ring Announcer, Master of

Ceremonies, general helpers and groundsman Steve

Hadfield and his team, Alan Hunt and Carolyn Burch,

our many Sponsors and the Golden Retriever Club

NSW. You were all fantastic and nothing was too much

trouble. We could not have done this without you.

The committee are to be congratulated on all aspects of making the weekend so special.

I must mention your secretarySue McFadden on her

exceptional organization.

My stewards were second to none and made both days run

so smoothly. The exhibitors are to be congratulated for their

great sportsmanship.

It was so lovely to see so many exhibitors staying for the

meal and presentation, somethingto be very proud of.

It certainly was an experience I shall always treasure and well

worth the long journey.

I wish you all well for the future.

quality of work. I was impressed the dogs were able to

compete in the Retrieving Trial and then came over and excel

in Obedience. All exhibitors handled their dogs very well and

the dogs had good steady temperaments.

RetrievingRetrieving AbilityTest for

We had a great entry of 18 Labrador Retrievers for the RATG

held at the 10th Labrador Retriever National in Sydney. RATG

are often open to all registered gundogs, but as this was a

National it was main or limited registered Labradors only. We

had handlers and dogs from NSW and interstate.

There was 11 entries in Open with 7 finishers. 7 entries

in Novice with 1 finisher.

Our judge was Pam Lyons (NSW). Pam has judged a huge

number of RATG over many years, but this was to be her last

judging appointment before retirement, so it was fitting that it

was at a National event.

The National was held at the Dogs NSW grounds at Orchard

Hills NSW. The RATG area that was used had some

undulating terrain with light cover. The obedience exercises

were held just inside the fence that the gallery had to stay

behind, but they also had a good view of the retrieving

exercises. Pam put on a double rise for the double retrieve

in Open.

Some of the Novice dogs had trouble with the retrieves

which is the reason there was one finisher in Novice.

The Open standard was very high with dogs scoring

closely.

The winner of Open was Mr D & Mrs V Furnell’s

Huntogun Tazzie Devil RN NRA. This dog was also

the Winner of Winners, gaining the Beale Stitt

Trophy.

Thanks also to our stewards who helped make the

day a success: Brad Leggett, Carol Griffiths, & Jeff

Griffiths.
