EXT. BARRACK HOSPITAL - NIGHT

CAPTION: BARRACK HOSPITAL, 1853

Wide view of the BARRACK HOSPITAL- in all its glory.

The odd nurse/doctor helping a limping soldier. But quite.Spooky.

INT. BARRACK HOSPITAL - MEDICAL SUPPLIES - NIGHT

A dark room; boxes of medical equipment and resourcesscattered on shelves and tables.

Then the door creaks open, and someone enters. Theyshouldnt be there. He/she is holding a lamp possessing aflickering flame. The figure is quick; worried to be caught.

Voices from a nearby corridor alert the figure. As thefigure turns, light casts on her face to reveal:

A woman in about her twenties. Dark hair. Attractive. Abunched net in her hair like a nurses; she is a nurse.


Close up on two guards(?) feet, walking down a corridor.Towards the supply room!

INT. BARRACK HOSPITAL - MEDICAL SUPPLIES - NIGHT

The woman turns to leave but knocks over a box full ofbottles- they clank onto the floor, noisy.

Thats it! She needs to run! She opens the door and sprintsout.


The woman runs down the corridor hysterically. Then, sheruns straight into the guards.

GUARDWho the hell are you?

She turns and sprints back down the corridor; away fromthem; fast.

Another corridor.

(Other soldiers noticing her?)

CUT TO:

Another corridor she runs down. But then:

A huge explosion!

Wipes the corridor apart; splinters of wood tumbling overthe woman; the medicines plummeting to the ground.


Zoom away slowly from the destruction.

Its not blown up all of the hospital, just the east tower;reduced to rubble and smoke.

EXT. VILLA COLOMBAIA - NIGHT

CAPTION: Nine Years Before

Wide view of VILLA COLOMBAIA. A beautiful, pillared andarched building. The garden; a spread of colourful plants.

The night sky empty of stars; just a dark blue.

INT. VILLA COLOMBAIA - NIGHT

A large, posh room. Sort of a kitchen. Grand andexpensive-looking.

Two young women are sat at a table. A lady brings in theirmeal (A sort of beef dish).

FRANCES WILLIAMSThere you go, my dears.

PARTHENOPEUm-m-m, it looks delicious!

FRANCES WILLIAMSWell I sincerely hope so, Pop. Tookme more than an afternoons polish.

She walks round the table and joins them. They start to eat;except for the quieter woman. She is grasping her cutlery,but only playing- not eating.

Her mother and sister look intrigued.

FLORENCEHe told me to help those in need ofassistance, with no thirst ofreputation.

FRANCES WILLIAMS(Chewing her food)

As Pop said, nonsense child. Nowcontinue with your meal.

FRANCES WILLIAMSIs that why your always lurkingaround Fathers estate? A diseasedand withering place!

FLORENCEYes, but we could chance that! Canyou not see?!

FRANCES WILLIAMSFlorence, you will become a wifeand mother and have children- andbe there for them, and do thecommon chores like everybody else!

Silence. PARTHENOPE stares at Florence; cold and hard.

FRANCES WILLIAMS (CONTD)You are dismissed from the table.Go.

FLORENCEGladly! (She stands up) I willprove you wrong, both of you. Oneday.

And she walks away, softly.

EXT. VILLA COLOMBAIA - GARDENS - NIGHT

FLORENCE is outside, perched against the wall. Crying. Butsomething catches her attention. A rustle, and then fromwithin the winding vines growing from the wall, out pops:

The DOCTOR! His head first, and then his whole body tumblesover. Leaves fly into the air, and he stands up, wipinghimself. With an owl on his head!

DOCTORHave I got an owl on my head?

FLORENCEWhat?!

DOCTOROwl? Head? How did he get there?

FLORENCESorry, shes mine. She lives here?

It rests on her arm shes holding a lamp with.

DOCTOROh, good. Love an owl. Never metone besides. Still, a first foreverything!

FLORENCEYe-e-s? Can I ask, who are you andwhy are you in my garden?

DOCTORO-o-oh, this is where you live?!Get you! Bit posh for me, though.And me would be the Doctor.Hello!

He shakes her hand.

FLORENCEWait, your a Doctor?

DOCTORWell, in a way...why?

FLORENCEDid you have a vision too!?

DOCTORWhat?

DOCTORYou dont say. (Jumps back down)Right, sorry for disturbing you.Wait, are you crying?

FLORENCEIts nothing.

DOCTORWhy are you crying?

My mother.DOCTOR

Ah, t-t. Mothers, ey? (Smacks hishead) Why did I do that? (Smacks itagain) Missing the obvious? Wait!Is this 1844? (She nods) And yourcalled Florence. As in Florence...

DOCTOR AND FLORENCENightingale!

Huge dramatic pause! (With music)

DOCTOR (CONTD)

Oh my! Oh my goodness! I must giveup time travel! Wait, no Ishouldnt. I cant believe it!

FLORENCEAre you leaving? I suggest youleave before Father arrives, andyour weird. Too weird. But a goodweird.

DOCTORSorry. Dont stop believing,Florence Nightingale! (She walksoff) Florence Nightingale.

She smiles, doesnt know who he is but she likes him. Andshe walks inside.

And his SONIC SCREWDRIVER bleeps! Oh! Back to work! And heruns off, out of the scene.

But then, an orange glow rises. Whispering voices comingfrom it, sinister and scary. Then it splits in two, halftraveling to the DOCTOR and the other to FLORENCE!


VERY CLOSE SHOT: Of FLORENCE, walking back inside. Focusingon the glow- its following her, still whispering softwords. And then: it shoots inside her lamp!

Wide view of BARRACK HOSPITAL; not however in all itsglory. The left front corner of the building is fire andsmoke. People rushing about; screaming and helping injured.

INT. TARDIS CONSOLE

The DOCTOR pounds past the ramp and flicks a switch here-pulling a lever there. The TARDIS mushroom-shaped middlethrobbing with light.


The TARDIS materializes outside the destruction.

CUT TO:

The TARDIS doors; the window frames a thick white and theambulance logo scratched upon the blue wood.

They open mediumly slow to reveal the DOCTOR. His smileprogresses into a shocked, horrified face.

He runs up to the blazing fire, studying the damage.

He bends down and picks a piece of wood from the ground.After throwing it from hand to hand because of how hot itis, he chucks it in his pocket.

A guard (smart; casual) walks up behind him.

GUARDAnd who are you, sir?

DOCTOR(spins round)

Oh, gooday. Well, actually its notis it? Whats happened?

GUARDAn explosion that has littleknowledge so far. Trespassers suchas you slow the process down, sir.

DOCTORIm not a trespasser. But, ifthats what you want to call methen stick with that, but dontprosecute me!

GUARDCome with me sir, you can bechecked on your identificationbefore you leave.

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE (V.O)Its alright.

They both turn to reveal:

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE! A lot older than he last saw herbefore; wearing her famous outfit as well as the lamp

hanging from her pale hands. Beautiful. Almighty!

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE (CONTD)Hes with me.

CUT TO:

The DOCTOR- what?!

INT. BARRACK HOSPITAL - CORRIDOR - NIGHT

The DOCTOR is walking down the corridor behind FLORENCE,dodging running/rushing guards with papers/medicines. Someinjured limp past, some wailing. Twiddling with his hands.

DOCTORI dont understand though! How canI have got from your pastto...well, present for you.

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALEI dont know! But Im glad to seeyou again, how was it?

DOCTORHow was what? Oh, the dolphin-

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALENo, did you defeat him?

DOCTORDefeat who?

Silence. He studies her worried face. Then, snap! She keepson walking, him hurrying after her.

DOCTOR (CONTD)What happened out there?

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALETo my knowledge, someone lay acandle flame against the alesupplies. Clumsy fools! People needto be tended to, injured and noweven more injured in some cases!

DOCTORThis never happened, though.

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALEWhat do you mean?

DOCTORNever mind. No, lets mind. First,I need to get to grips with why theTARDIS took me here.

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALEWell I have larger priorities.

DOCTORRight, well, Florence Nightingale,Ill go back to the TARDIS, I needto analyze something.

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALEAlways running about, arent you?

He smiles, and runs off down the corridor.


Wide zoom from far away of the DOCTOR walking out towardsthe TARDIS.

But beyond the chattering of guards, he hears a cry. Helooks around. A sort of help!. He runs towards the rubble,and quickly finds the source of the sound-

A woman, trapped amongst the rubble. Her arms stretched out,but she cannot move; trapped.

DOCTORIts OK, Ill get you out. Hold onto me.

WOMANI cant move!

DOCTORYour not stuck, just pull yourselffree, thats all. Come on.

He pulls her, eventually, out of the rubble and helps her toher feet. Shes covered in rubble, and some cuts are in herdress, ripping it to about her knees.

DOCTOR

No worries, comes in the title!

WOMANThere may be more people in there!

DOCTORYeah, and the guards will helpthem. Lets just be thankful youralright, ey?

WOMANI suppose. I need to get back toFlorence, sir.

DOCTORFlorence? Nightingale?

WOMANYes?

DOCTORWell Im going to her in fiveminutes, just need to do somethingin my- (she stares at him, waitingfor an answer) mobile...policestation...

WOMANA woman like myself must not beallowed unguarded. Ill join you.

DOCTOROh no you wont, and what dyoumean, like yourself?

WOMANI am one of Florence Nightingales38 nurses! Who do you think I am!?

DOCTORKissogram? Sorry, not quite yet- Ihope (grins) OK, follow me.(Unlocks the TARDIS) But yourstaying out here, alright!?

DOCTORNice.

And he hops inside. She leans against the TARDIS, waiting.

INT. BARRACK HOSPITAL - CORRIDOR - NIGHT

Two men are walking, professional and important. A woman iscatching them up, holding papers.

MAI SMITHExcuse me, Mr Griffin, sir.

The other man nods, and continues walking.

MR GRIFFINYes, madam.

MAI SMITHMyself and the nurses have beenthinking, well, dont you thinkits time that you let, the Nursestend to the soldiers.

MR GRIFFINI beg your pardon?

MAI SMITHWe are short of Doctors-

MR GRIFFINNo way.

MAI SMITHAnd many are wounded, especiallybecause of this recent explosion!

MR GRIFFINMs Smith, I did gather that.

MAI SMITHWe have a certain nurse, sir. Shewould be of much use for you.

MR GRIFFINWho is this woman?

MAI SMITHFlorence, Florence Nightingale. I,I have her file here, sir.

She passes him a piece of paper, he skims it.

MR GRIFFIN(lying)

Ill consider it.

And he walks onwards, MAI SMITH looking pleased withherself.

INT. TARDIS CONSOLE

The DOCTOR clips the piece of wood onto a slot with wiresdangling from it randomly.

DOCTORLets just check your not alien!

He presses some buttons and a noise alerts him. He lookssideways, and back again.

DOCTOR (CONTD)Hey? What?

It pings from the machine like a toaster and he catches itswiftly. He licks it, and tastes.

DOCTOR (CONTD)Thats not normal- thats...waxy?And, tastes...oh no.

LAILA COOK (V.O)How is that possible!!!

He flips round to see LAILA standing on the ramp, taking inthe beauty of the TARDIS!

INT. BARRACK HOSPITAL- NORTHWEST TOWER - NIGHT

They enter a room full of soldiers sat & lying on beds. TheDOCTOR watches, helpless. In the b/g, soldiers and Nursesare rushing about. LAILA joins in. She props a soldierspillow and helps him drink some medicine. Carries on helping

etc.

FLORENCEDoctor, can you give him a bandageto his arm, hes dislocated bothbut the left one is in graver pain.

MEDICAL DOCTORYes, Florence. Ill see to it in asecond.

Noticing the DOCTOR, she walks up to him.

FLORENCESo many people are injured. Everynight, somebody is dragged in withsome sort of experience of pain.Some we just dont know what to dowith.

LAILA walks off holding towels; she places them on acupboard next to a soldiers bed and moves FLORENCEs lamp.As she does, though, something flickers- and possibly, justpossibly...a face!

She puts it down quickly, and walks away as if she never sawit.

MAI SMITH enters the room.

MAI SMITHMight of seen sense, Florence!

FLORENCEReally, oh what did he say!?

MAI SMITHHell consider it.

FLORENCEOh, wouldnt that be wonderful- toactually treat these wonderful men!

MAI SMITHHave you seen to bed number 3?

She walks away to her job. MAI SMITH and the DOCTOR watchingher.

MAI SMITHShes trying ever so hard to keepthem healthy. And so is Laila, oneof our finest nurses. Dyou know,she broke into the supplies roombecause the guards wouldnt let herin. Apparently near the time of theexplosion. Oh and Mr Griffin didntlike that!

DOCTORWell, shes reducing deaths though.Both of them, Florence indeed.

MAI SMITHYes, indeed. If shed just believein herself for once she could be sogood, really she would.

DOCTORMaybe she will, one day.

LAILA COOKDoctor, I think you might want tohave a look at this.

DOCTORWhat is it?

LAILAFlorences lamp, there was somesort of light.

DOCTORThere would be, its calledcandlelight.

LAILADont get smart with me, young man.No, there was some sort of face.

DOCTORStop calling me young, Im reallynot! Any anyway, well keep an eyeon it, right?

She bends down and picks up a small TORTOISE! She strokesits shell.

DOCTORYouve got a tortoise?

FLORENCEYouve got peculiar hair, Doctor.

FLORENCEOh yes, shes there.

Points to a cage in the corner, the owl from SCENE 2.

DOCTORA little older.

FLORENCEOf course. Well, shes been with meduring my journeys. And this folkwas found in the forest by one ofthe Doctors.

DOCTORFlorence Nightingale and her Owland Tortoise- good name for a book.Actually, dont, gotta be careful.

FLORENCEYou are very strange.

Then suddenly, all the candle lights go out at the sametime.

On FLORENCE: looking up, wondering whats happened.

FLORENCE (CONTD)Thats peculiar.

MAI SMITHGood hevence, somebody get somedifferent candles. Mercy, if youwould?

MAI SMITHOh and get some powdered Rhubarbwhilst your there!

The DOCTOR runs and jumps onto a bed, reaching to a candleand inspecting it with his SONIC SCREWDRIVER.

LAILA COOKExcuse me, Doctor! You cant jumponto the bed! Especially whensomeones in it!

DOCTOR(To the injured soldier)

Sorry!

LAILA COOKWhat are you doing with thatcandle? Is that blue!?

DOCTORNo, its- oh, for goodness sakeits a sonic screwdriver. Speciallymade in...Capetown.

LAILA COOKGoodness me!

DOCTORTheres something here, but itsnot formable- not something I canquite put my finger on.

Everyones attention draws to a huge scream! Everyone stops.Listens. Then: WIDE SHOT: Of a mist of entity growing in themiddle of the room, coming from FLORENCEs lamp and thecandles.

DOCTOR (CONTD)This is where it gets interesting.

FLORENCEI dont believe my eyes!

DOCTOREverybody, get back!

DOCTORDont you think its time you letthe nurses have a go, at the

treating?

MR GRIFFINNo, they are here to clean this goddamn place up!

FLORENCEThese soldiers have dysentery andcholera, but their too weak to risefrom their beds. It goes beyondcleaning things up dont youthink?

MR HALL(Chuckling to himself)

Mrs Nightingale, most of these scumlived in worse conditions beforethey came here, so theres reallyno need to worry!

The DOCTORs face rises, shocked that he said it. So doesLAILAs. She steps forward.

LAILAThese scum, Mr Hall, are givingtheir lives for our country, howdare you!

MR GRIFFINEnough! Both of you will obey themilitary rules of this hospital, oryou will be sent home. Do youunderstand, Mrs Nightingale?

FLORENCE sighs, she cant do anything. Weak.

FLORENCEYes, Mr Griffin.

MR GRIFFINGood, now, as I said- tidy thisplace up!

LAILAHow dare you-

DOCTOR(Stopping her) Laila, no.

LAILAWell, I wouldnt stand for that!

MR HALLOh and who are you, exactly? Areyou important?

LAILAIm Laila Cook, and Im asimportant as youll ever be!

MR HALL is shocked at what LAILA just said, but MR GRIFFINdeparts. He follows him and walks out of the room, mutteringunder his breath.

DOCTORAs if dying soldiers wasnt badenough, now we have a growing alienon the loose! And it cant happen!Ive got to be so careful! Uhhh!

LAILA COOKCouldnt that mist be coming fromthe lamp? I saw mysterious facesemerging in the light.

DOCTOR(His face litens up and heruns to LAILA)

I could kiss you!

LAILA COOKMaybe another time, hey?

DOCTORWait! Oh, just wait! I think Iknow. Well, the creatures some sortof entity that came to Earth in1854, when Florence was a child. Itwas looking for Florence, but foundme too! So it connected to both ofus, and thats why the TARDISbrought us here, because thatentity was forcing us! So, gosh mybrains sizzling today, now weretogether again- its wanting tokill us. Because were the two morebrilliant Doctors in the universe!Does that sound incredibly vain?

LAILA COOKYes, and your not exactly a Doctor.

DOCTORNo, no but Im called the Doctor sotherefore I am the Doctor. Ha!

Then, rattle-rattle-rattle! They turn around. ItsFLORENCEs lamp! Shaking frantically. Its pulsing withlight, liquid wax oozing from the centre.

DOCTORAnd just as a random guess, I thinkits getting ready to start itsprocess!

Then, the liquid wax rises together to form a clump of afigure, again with the weird Tortoise head! Snapping away.

MAI SMITHFlorence! Florence, come here awayfrom it!

DOCTOROrrr, your amazing! [FLORENCE giveshim a shocked look] Well, notamazing but wow!

She runs to her, and she holds her arm.

LAILA COOKDoctor, its got a Tortoises head!

DOCTORYeah, and youve got a Human head.Hello, how you doing? Say hi!

ENTOISENo need for greeting, dear Doctor.

DOCTORAww, your so sweet! And can speak!Well done.

ENTOISEThe two sainted physicians,together at last. The wait has beenlong, but the future is finallyupon us. Both, will die from thisworld.

DOCTORNo, no, no you wont.

LAILA COOKDoctor, what is it!? Tell us!

DOCTORIts an alien.

LAILA COOKI beg your pardon?

DOCTORFlorence, its an alien. Aunt Mai,its an alien. EVERYONE, ITS ANALIEN! Half of your bodys beenwaiting for so many years, inFlorence Nightingales lamp, andhalf of yous been with me since Imet her as a child, correct? Good,Im good with guesses. And now,finally, were together for you tokill us.

DOCTORThought not, instead- run!

And they all run out of the room, through the corridor andup the stairs. Then, the ENTOISE follows. Smiling throughits oozy beak.

CUT TO:

All four, running past the camera (floor), spinning togallop up the stairs.

CUT BACK TO:

The ENTOISE, now following them! Smiling.

INT. BARRACK HOSPITAL - NORTH WEST OFFICE ROOM

They all burst into the room, the DOCTOR quickly flips backand secures the door with the screwdriver.

DOCTOROh, whyve you got nothing more

than wood these days?!

LAILA COOKDoctor, doors wont stop it!

DOCTORWell its not going to be afraid ofwood, is it? Yes, so I have tenseconds to speak and have alreadywasted five, so basically: we needmelt it!

FLORENCEMelt it?

DOCTORDont you see? This-[bang!]creature is made from-[bang!] wax,and if theres only-[bang!], willyou be quite out there! It will befire cause that melts wax, get it?

MAI SMITHI think, I dunno. But whys it notjust melting the door?!

DOCTORIts hard to simplify it- why cantI just go blurrrrrrrr, and you allunderstand and know what to do?

LAILA COOKSo we need a matchstick, right?

DOCTORFind some in those cupboards!

MAI SMITH

Is that what made the explosionbefore?

DOCTORYes, I think (pulls out the pieceof wood), because I found this andanalyzed it- found wax soaked intothe cells. And it needs to bestopped, because this cant happen.

SOLDIERStand back monster, or we will killyou!

Zoom away to reveal an arch of soldiers, all guns set on thebeast. But the monster stares, and turns to the DOCTOR-then, it smiles, sinister- like its archived or...survived!

Then, it blows liquid from its mouth!

Wide view: of the soldiers blowing away as if they weresimply dust. Gone; forever. As quick as a flash.

DOCTOR(Fumind)

You didnt have to do that! I havehad enough. This needs to end. AndIm going to make sure of that.Ive offered you help, and youwont listen.

ENTOISEWhat would happen, Doctor lord, ifI was to do something that timedenied?

DOCTORWhat do you mean?

And he fires a huge storm of liquid wax that sets thehospital on fire! Flames catch onto the walls, glass smashesin; and instantly, screams of midwives, nurses and soldiersblur the midnight wind.

People from outside are running away, some from inside arerunning out. The DOCTOR stares, defeated.

He throws a key and she catches it neatly.

She cuts of, running to the TARDIS.

Shaking of the camera as they run, run for life!

They jump inside the room where the nurses are. Some of thenurses are trapped in the corners, screaming for help.

The DOCTOR runs up to them, dodging the threatining flames.

FLORENCE helps soldiers limp to safety.

FLORENCE(To a soldier)

Get outside! Ask for a nurse! Go!

DOCTORWait, I might have something.

He puts his hands inside his pocket and reveals a water gun!He sprays it and its contents is already empty. He chucksit behind him; no use.

She finds a chest-like box, and unhatches the locks. Sheopens it to find plates, a cyberman head, some crystals anda teleporter (similar to Captain Jacks).

LAILA COOK (CONTD)Oh my goodness! Oh, wait!

She closes it and shouts F. Then, opens it to find a newcollection of objects.

LAILA COOK (CONTD)(inspecting the box)

Impossible! How is this possible?

She rumages inside, until she brings out a extinguisher andanother two.


Close up: On LAILA, sprinting past screaming and runningpeople, struggling with three extinguishers.


LAILA runs into the burning room, and throws an extinguisherto FLORENCE and LAILA.

DOCTORPush that lever and it will spraywater. Aim it at the flames!

Rubble and peices of the roof smash onto the floor, and bedposts crash to the ground.

LAILAFlorence! What are you doing!?

She runs to a man trapped in the rubble, a dying soldier-helpless. Unable to move. The DOCTOR pulls her up but shepushes him away.

FLORENCENo Doctor! Im not leaving him hereto die! It is why Im here. Itswhat Im destined to do!

DOCTORBut you cant die, you cant!

FLORENCEAnyone can die, Doctor! Therearent rules to life! I will be aspleased if I die and help this manthan live another few years!

Crack! The ceiling stutters, and then: CRASH!

The whole ceiling collapses, chunks fall and bounce off theground. Glass plumits towards FLORENCE and LAILA pulls theDOCTOR back just in time.

But not in time for FLORENCE. She hits the ground instantly,killing the man...and FLORENCE.

Shes covering her mouth, weeping as she watches thebuilding collapse slowly. Wagons pull up with dyingsoldiers, nurses are running to them, helping them on thefloor.

We hear the chuckle of ENTOISE.

DOCTORTheres her lamp.

We see the DOCTOR talking to FLORENCE as a young woman,holding the lamp. The DOCTOR runs off, and the presentDOCTOR runs up to the girl.


He and LAILA watch her put the lamp down and walk upstairs.

FRANCES WILLIAMS (V.O)Whereve you been?

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE (V.O)Leave me alone, leave me alone!

FRANCES WILLIAMS (V.O)You can stay in your room for therest of the night!!! Think aboutwho you are!

The DOCTOR picks up the lamp.

There, the circuling gaseous ENTOISE is whirling about, tinyand weak.

DOCTORHello again, or not so again foryou. Im sorry, I am truly sorryfor whats to happen to yourplanet, but Ill stop it. But firstI need to stop you.

He looks at LAILA, and she nods simply; its time.

He pulls out his sonic screwdriver, and slowly presses thebutton-

The sonic whizzes loudly and the ENTOISE screams and spinsin circles till a huge cloud appears in front of them. Ithad thunder striking from the clouds, and the ENTOISE issucked back into the cloud.

Gone.

FRANCES WILLIAMS (V.O)Is that you, Florence!?

DOCTORCome on, quick!

The DOCTOR and LAILA run out of the room before FRANCESwalks in, looking around.

FRANCES WILLIAMSOh thats right, leave me to tidyup after yourself.

And she picks it up; not harmed at all; and walks upstairs.


The DOCTOR runs into the TARDIS, but before LAILA can, shehears something. A snap in the bushes. She looks around.Nothing.

Then, a sound that fades into the atmosphere. A sinister,sound of a clock- the cooing of the bird that pops out,repeating itself over and over again. Dun Coo Koo Dun CooKoo!

She looks around. Then, she falls to the floor to reveal asilhouette. Standing behind her.

INT. TARDIS CONSOLE

The DOCTOR is playing about with the controls.

DOCTOR(To the TARDIS)

I know, I know, I shouldnt use youfor such things, but I needed to.Im sorry. Ill never do it again,OK? Laila?

He runs to the door.


He opens it and he spots her looking around.

DOCTOR (CONTD)Come inside, before we get seen!

And she walks in to the blue box.

Zoom in on the bush, nothing there...but still, somethingthere...

INT. TARDIS CONSOLE

The DOCTOR runs up the ramp, leaving her to stare at him.

DOCTORI know, I should never have let youin but remember it was youintereffered with it all!

LAILA COOKYeah...

DOCTORIll take you back, if thats whatyou want.

LAILA COOKNo, no in fact its not. Becausethe Entoise made me realise who Iam.

DOCTORIf he said anything about you itwas only because he was angry.

LAILA COOKBut he was right, though. I am awaste of space on Earth.So...(smiling)

DOCTORWhat do you have in mind?

They both smile at each other, they know exactly what theirboth thinking- and so do we!

DOCTOR (CONTD)A few trips, maybe?

LAILA COOKJust a few. If thats perfectlyalright.

The DOCTOR stares at her, ready to plot the TARDIS.

EXT. EAST WELLOW GRAVEYARD - AFTERNOON

Caption: St Margrets Church, 2010

The TARDIS is already materialized. The camera swerves tothe left and reveals the DOCTOR and LAILA linking arms, theDOCTOR holding an old fashioned Umbrella. Theyre walking toa particular gravestone.

They walk down a path until they find a small gravestonewith a few weeds at the bottom. It has a sort of arch aroundthe sides, and carvings read:

F.N BORN 12 MAY 1820- DIED 13 AUGUST 1910

They stand in front of it, and just as they do the rainstops- the DOCTOR dislocates the Umbrella. LAILA has tearsin her eyes.

LAILAHow did she do? Was she happy?

DOCTOROh yeah, everyone knew her greatwork. She formed her own hospitalfor new nurses; wrote a book foreducating physicians. Apparently,she went to her grave denying thegerm theory of infection. In the1870s, she mentored Linda Rodgers,matron of several hospitals. Goodlife.

LAILAThats nice to hear. Is thisEastwellow?

DOCTORYep, ST Margrets Church. 2010.

LAILA COOKShe sounded like she did well,Florence. (slightly jelous?)

DOCTORWonderful, she was. Still, everyonehas to go at some point.

LAILA puts down the flowers she was holding, resting themagainst her grave. She smiles, and they walk back to theTARDIS.

LAILAYouve still got wax on yoursleeve!

DOCTOR(removing as much as he can)

Oh no! Thats my best jacket!

LAILAYou know what we can do with that!

DOCTORWhat?

LAILAMr Griffin used to wax all theguards, it was hilariouslyentertaining.

DOCTORLaila cook! Im not getting waxed!I tried that on Hooter Mooter, andthat was goat wax. I was red forthree days!

She laughs. But the camera stays on the grave, slowlyzooming in as FLORENCEs voice is heard:

FLORENCE (V.O)Lo! In that house of misery. Passthrough the glimmering gloom. Andflit from room to room. The lady inthe lamp I see...
