MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT We are in full pre-campaign mode! Dave McPhail, our energetic candidate, and his wife Sharon, have been out canvassing door-to-door with campaign manager Jonathan Krall every single evening while attending events in between and on weekends. One of our brand new members, Vince Amodeo, a recent university graduate, is heading up the canvass team and needs more help. That would be YOU! We have about 12 people right now and we need to TRIPLE that to go to the doors in teams of 4.
If you can help or know of anyone who can please contact me at [email protected]
Our telephone committee under the direction of Anne Hummel is in full swing as well. We can always use more callers if you don’t fancy going door- to -door. If you do, remember that there are many testimonials to the effect that regular door- to-door canvassing over the campaign period will result in the loss of up to 20 pounds. If this weight loss does not happen, your Victory Fund contribution will not be refunded. Sorry!
Let me cut to the chase. We have an excellent candidate in David McPhail and our goal is to send him to Ottawa in the fall as the Liberal MP from Sarnia-Lambton. To achieve this we need to identify our Liberal supporters. That is goal #1. We do that through canvassing, either door-to-door or telephoning. We are all in this together and are counting on your help.
Please contact me at 519-869-4268 or by email.

OUT AND ABOUT WITH DAVE... Sarnia-Lambton Federal Liberal Volunteers, under the leadership
of Patrick Lai cleaned a portion of London Line from Mandaumin
Road east to The People's Church. Volunteers included
Doug Kerr,
Sharon McPhail,
Bob Sutton,
Barb Garrett,
Our Candidate
Dave McPhail,
David Allen,
Dave Slack, and
Patrick Lai.
Great job and a
good time had
by all..
Dave was out at the 54th Aamjiwnaang First Nation Pow Wow in
Sarnia. Dave had a lengthy meeting with the communities Chief
Chris Plain. Plain was critical of the Conservative Government’s
approach to First Nations needs, saying many lack basic services
such as water. The Pow Wow attracts Dancers of all ages from
across Canada and the U.S. Miigwetch.
From Dave: "I had a lovely time taking part in Canada Day events
including the Parade. I even got to ride in a flashy car of my
favourite colour. We left the parade event and went to the
Enniskillen Parks and Rec's fund raiser. Then we finished off the
night watching fireworks with other Canada Day celebrators. What
a wonderful day celebrating Canada Day. Hoping you had a very
Happy Canada Day. It was simply wonderful meeting and making so
many new friends during Canada Day events at Canatara Park. I
hope that you and your family enjoyed Sarnia's Canada Day as much
as Sharon and I did.”
MESSAGE FROM DAVE AT THE AGM Good Evening, Bonsoir, Boozhoo
I want to begin with once again "thanking you" for the responsibility and trust
to be your Federal Liberal Candidate in the 2015 election. The importance of
this position and what it truly means is not forgotten. Your support will not be
wasted or lost, since you have someone who truly cares and is engaged and
passionate to win this riding.
Now for what has been going on: The day after the nomination we started
mobilizing our election team to hit the ground running. The Campaign Co-
chairs Jonathan and Kim immediately started to set forth a well-defined plan
and road map for success. Sharon and I talked with our Nomination Advisory
Team and worked carefully to add them to positions where we were able to
best use their individual talents and abilities to create a synergy for success.
We are in good shape while moving forward using the basic 3 C's... Cooperate,
Coordinate and Communicate and it is working really well.
Canvassing door to door has begun. We are out nightly working a poll and
dialoguing with the electorate. This is week 3 of canvassing and the reception
at the door has been overwhelmingly positive. There is a real desire for
change... "good change"… and many are
declaring their support for a Liberal win while
asking to help and support. This is most
encouraging and gratifying. Our message is
out there and being positively accepted.
We are attending events when and where we
can. At events we are able to engage
potential voters, talk about the election and
trying to get support. It is working... Last
weekend alone we attended 8 events and
met many people who pledged support and
assistance.
Last week Sharon and I spent 4 days in
Ottawa and had the chance to meet with Mr.
Trudeau several times 1 on 1. I attended excellent support workshops and
sessions, and had the opportunity of being part of the Election Reform Roll
Out. The Liberal party is SSOO organized and the plan is in place, carefully
being followed with the platform roll-outs coming at a well-controlled pace
and at the right time. It means we are ready and after meeting our Leader Mr.
Trudeau I put my years of working with people in gear and I am here to tell
you... Justin Trudeau IS ready... and if the Conservatives believe their ads, they
are completely out of touch.
But what from here? What makes Dave McPhail the obvious go to candidate
and the Liberal Party the vote of choice here and Canada wide? I have said
before and I must say it again, I will take Sarnia-Lambton to Ottawa... not
Ottawa to Sarnia-Lambton... I intend to use my position as MP to open doors
for business and industry leaders and to get out and bring new enterprises
here. I do not plan to sit and wait for it (them) to come here.
Like we did during the Nomination Period... We sought people with whom we
could dialogue and gather information and we listened. We reached out and
we did our leg work to get to the electorate and that will be the direction I will
continue as your elected representative. We need to engage people and
getting to them, face to face, is the best way to do that.
Our Liberal party is the obvious choice. The Fairness Policy will put $2500.00 more
tax free into the pockets of the middle class than the programs of others. It will mean
that middle class will do better and have a greater chance for success than they have
had in the recent past. This is very exciting for all of us. We know that a Trudeau led
Liberal government will be better for our younger demographic and indeed all
Canadians than will a Harper led Conservative approach.
Election Reform is necessary and the Liberals have a better plan for this. It is all part
of the REAL Change Platform announced on June 16th. I had the privilege to be part
of this announcement while in Ottawa last week. The 32 part plan is well developed
and carefully articulated. It suggests taking all parties and working collaboratively for
18 months to get a consensus for change and not use the "this is the way we do it or
else" approach as proposed by the "opposition leader" which is very consistent with
the style of the current government. You see this is Real Change and you do not have
to handcuff Canada for 10 years of "constitutional wrangling"... A concept to be
applauded.
This week Mr. Trudeau announced a better dialogue with both the U.S. and Mexico.
Not in such a manner that we roll over and say yes but using meaningful and
productive dialogue. This has been missing terribly
in the past decade. Previous PMs worked with and
could call US Presidents but that has not been the
case recently and as a result we have suffered as a
nation.
We are the party of choice and real change. As your
MP I can see being able to continue my approach of
collaborative leadership style and getting things
done as I have already done by being proactive, and
by thinking outside of the box.
In the Nomination Address I talked about bringing
support and trust back to our elected officials. This
is essential for me. Not to pick on the media, but
"some" elected or appointed people have a feeling
of entitlement... but most are fair, honest and hardworking... I want all to be that
way and I want all to be known for that fact.
Now some of you may know that Justin Trudeau taught Math when teaching in BC...
He and I should get along famously since I wrote math text-books and together I
think we can get the numbers right for all Canadians and for Sarnia-Lambton.
The campaign will be won or lost at the doors. The research is compelling that talking
to people face to face and getting to them in person is not only nice but a must. This
takes people... So tonight I am asking you to volunteer your time, that of friends
family, and associates and we will have a job for you and we can win this riding and
as Justin Trudeau said to me...and I quote."I am counting on you to bring Sarnia-
Lambton home to Ottawa for the Liberals"... my response was simple..."no pressure
there at all Mr. Trudeau!!”... We both had a good laugh.
As I close I want to leave you with a quote from a former Canadian Ambassador to
the United Nations. It captures what I believe and think we require....
“Somewhere in my soul I cherish the possibility of a return to a vibrant democracy,
where policy is debated rather than demeaned, where the great issues of the day are
given thoughtful consideration, where Canada’s position on the world stage is seen
as principled and laudatory, where human rights for all is the emblem of a decent
society.”
Thank You, Merci, Miigwech
Once again we are so thankful for your ongoing generosity and support but, it being an
election year, there’s SO MUCH MORE TO DO!!!! It certainly is “GAME ON” for the
campaign already. In case you haven’t noticed, there are ads in the local papers, election
signage up and even a campaign office open. With rumours of an extended campaign
period, this election is shaping up to be an expensive one. More rent for office space, more
utilities and more advertising will add up to a formidable fundraising challenge.
Please help us to send our excellent candidate, Dave McPhail, to Ottawa as our next Liberal
MP and advocate for Sarnia Lambton by considering:
• topping up your year-to-date contributions,
• signing up for monthly donations through the VICTORY FUND, or
• making a one-time donation
FYI, YOUR LOCAL ANNUAL MAXIMUM DONATION IS $1500 AND THERE ARE GENEROUS TAX
CREDITS AVAILABLE UP TO A MAX OF $650. FOR EXAMPLE, A $400 CONTRIBUTION COSTS
YOU ONLY $100 AFTER YOUR $300 TAX CREDIT.
The following chart shows the Net Cost to you of various donation amounts.
Before the Writ of Election is issued
the Campaign CAN NOT accept
donations and all contributions must
go through the Association.
Therefore ALL CHEQUES should be
made out to “S L F L A “.
You can also mail it to P.O. Box 737,
Bright’s Grove ON N0N1C0 or we will
happily pick up your cheque. Just give
us a call.
Thank you to ALL again for your
ongoing support and generosity.
