The Lampshade Loft Workshops Drum Lampshade making In this three-hour course I will teach you how to make contemporary drum lampshades to a high professional standard. You will learn how to: Position your fabric on your lampshade, thinking about pattern placement and repeats Use different fabrics, which work easily and how to deal with those that don’t! Adhere your fabric onto the laminate panel used to make the shade Hand roll the covered panel on to the lampshade rings, expertly tucking the fabric under the rings to make the perfect shade Adhere trims and edgings should you wish to We will also look at making shades out of different materials such as paper and maps, and recycling shades using new fabrics and materials. This course costs £75 for a one-to-one session, or £40 each for two or more people. The class will either take place in my workshop in the village of Brockham, near Reigate or I can come to you (there are travel costs though, please ask for detail). You will also need a lampshade kit - these are available for you to order from supplier Dannells (www.dannells.com - they sell kits in various sizes, please note that anything over a 40cm drum will use more than a width of average size fabric), or I can order one for you. I can also put a ‘kit’ together for you, such as a specific empire shade or one with card inside instead of laminate – please ask for detail. Fabrics – you will need to bring half a meter of your own fabric and I would suggest that you can choose an average weight cotton or cotton mix, not silk, loose linen or very thin nor an embroidered fabric - or please ask in advance for advice. If you wish to make a shade using paper on the outside, please discuss with me what to bring. There will be lots of tea coffee and biscuits supplied on the day! You will go home with a wonderful shade and the ability to make many more, either for fun or on a professional footing. To book a place, please email me at [email protected] for dates and availability.
