Kathy Perret, Instructional Coach The Learning Journey We learn and grow and are transformed not so much by what we do but by why and how we do it. -Sharon Salzberg Issue 1, Sept. 12, 2011 Let me introduce myself… Hello, my name is Kathy Perret and I am an Instructional Coach from Northwest AEA. I’m excited to join the staff of Leeds and Whittier Elementary Schools in their professional learning journey. Together we can grow to new heights, discover new insights, and empower our students and each other. I have 18 years of elementary teaching experience. During that time I taught grades four and five. For the past 11 years I have been at Northwest AEA. Our job titles have changed over the years – but my first love and goal has always been helping classroom teachers, administrators, and students. I have had the opportunity to work along side amazing educators with a passion for learning not only for their students, but also for themselves. I know I’ll find the same holds true at Leeds and Whittier! Together we will LEARN & GROW! “Today you are YOU, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than YOU.” Dr. Seuss Kathy’s Schedule: My tentative schedule is outlined below. There will be weeks this format will change. I will email my weekly schedule to each school so that you are aware of when I am in your building. Tentative: Monday – Leeds PD site alternating between Leeds & Whittier Tuesday – Leeds Wednesday – Whittier Thursday – Whittier Friday: AEA, West Middle, etc… http://kathyperret.net

What is an Instructional Coach?

An Instructional Coach is an individual who is a full or part time professional developer, on site in schools. ICs work with teachers to help them incorporate researched-based instructional practices. When ICs work with students, they do so with the primary goal of demonstrating effective practices to teachers. ICs facilitate teachers' reflection about their classroom practices. ICs focus on a broad range of instructional situations, sharing a variety of effective practices that might address classroom management, content planning, specific teaching practices or formative assessment. The IC

An on-site professional developer who partners with educators collaborates with teachers so they can choose and implement researched-based interventions to help students learn more effectively. The work of an IC is most productive when it aligns to school goals.
