A complete list of rules are posted along the trails. Trail users should remember the three “C’s” of trail use: Courtesy, Consideration and Control. Stay to the right. Let others pass on your left. Announce you are “passing on the left.” The speed limit on the trail is 15 mph. • Always stop and use crossing signals at road intersections. • Motorized vehicles are prohibited. Dog-friendly. All dogs must be kept on a hand-held, maximum 6-foot leash. • Cyclists under 16 must wear a helmet. • Bicycles yield to pedestrians. The Legacy Trail and Venetian Waterway Park feature 911 Emergency Location Markers, located on the center of the trail every .05 miles. In an emergency, call 911 and provide them with the location number (e.g., LT 0.00). Trailheads Culverhouse Nature Park 7301 McIntosh Road, Sarasota This 82-acre park provides a portable restroom and does not have access to drinking water. Open 6 a.m. - Sunset Legacy Trail Access-McIntosh Road 7905 McIntosh Road, Sarasota Restrooms and water are not available at this location. Open 6 a.m. - Sunset Osprey Junction Trailhead 939 E. Bay St., Osprey Picnic tables, a portable restroom and bottle-fill water fountain are available at this trailhead park. Open 6 a.m. - Sunset Oscar Scherer State Park 1843 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey Pedestrian/bicyclist entrance fee. Visit floridastateparks.org/park/Oscar-Scherer or call 941-483-5956. Open 8 a.m. - Sundown The Venetian Waterway Park (VWP) is a concrete multi-use trail that follows along both the east and west sides of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). The VWP east (3.8-miles long) connects The Legacy Trail near the historic Venice Train Depot and travels south to Shamrock Park. Cross the ICW and the VWP west (5-miles long) takes you south to Caspersen Beach Park. The trail provides great water views and wildlife sighting opportunities. Trailheads VABI (Venice Area Beautification, Inc.) Office 257 N. Tamiami Trail, Venice. Located on the island of Venice, this is a good starting point to explore the VWP. Restrooms are open from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Caspersen Beach Park 4100 Harbor Drive, Venice Cool off after your bike ride with a swim at the beach. Open 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Shamrock Park 3900 Shamrock Drive, Venice This park offers great wildlife viewing, including Florida scrub-jays and gopher tortoise sightings. Open 6 a.m. - Sunset Skip Stasko Park 2101 Scenic Drive, Venice This park features a tranquil resting place and lake front view. Open 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. THE LEGACY TRAIL This popular asphalt-paved multi-use trail is more than 10 miles long and extends from Sarasota to Venice. Formerly a railroad corridor, the trail passes through a variety of unique habitats and includes a series of interpretive signs and rest stations. Multiple trailheads provide access and other amenities. Open 6 a.m. - Sunset. VENETIAN WATERWAY PARK Laurel Park and Sandra Sims Terry Community Center 509 Collins Road, Laurel Laurel Park offers numerous amenities including a fitness trail right off of The Legacy Trail. Open 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Nokomis Community Park 234 Nippino Trail E., Nokomis This community park has many amenities and features a popular playground. Open 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Nokomis Riverview Park 251 Riverview Drive S., Nokomis This park offers a kayak launch leading to Shakett Creek. Open 6 a.m. - Sunset Patriots Park 800 Venetia Bay Blvd., Venice This park is home to a paved courtyard dedicated to veterans of world wars, first responders, the victims of 9/11 and heroes everywhere. Open 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Venice Train Depot 303 E. Venice Ave., Venice The Rollins W. Coakley Railroad Park and historic Venice Train Depot are a great place to visit and learn the history of this area.
