The LeHo community is open for everyone involved

in home and hospital educationwith the support of ICT

Did you know that there are hundreds of thousands of young people across Europe and the rest of the world with medical needs, and that the majority recover and go on to lead full and normal lives?

Hospital schools and home tuition programmes ensurethat students not only keep up with their education, but that they can go on to achieve magnificent things.

Main project data

Programme: LLP – Key3 Multilateral Network Runtime: January 2014 – December 2016 Coordinator: Fondazione Politecnico di Milano (ITA) Contact person: Matteo Uggeri Partners:

Main project data

The starting point

Students in hospital or ill at home face isolation and cannot access mainstream education.

ICT can play a key role in providing better communication and mediation of the educational processes whilst a student is absent from school due to a medical condition.

The issue of HHE (Home and Hospital Education) Providing education to children and youngsters with

medical or psychological needs: a world-wide problem Every country has its own solution for it. Need for an international confrontation on this

subject In some countries there are online/digital solutions

that may help the schools and the family to guarantee the right to education also to these children.

Aims of this project

Outline key educational factors & good practices needed by ill students;

Explore and design ICT-based solutions which will enable children in hospital, in home therapy, or who attend school part-time, to access education.

Verify how technology can impact on the methodology and pedagogy in Home and Hospital Education (HHE).

Not only for ill people

Moreover, the initiatives adopted in the HHE, which represents an educational extreme are designed to be innovative and to improve education in difficult contexts.

They may also be effectively applied in ‘normal’ didactical situations.

So, what are our main goals:

Investigate the situation in EU on HHE in terms of policies, habits, rules, etc…;

Arise awareness around the HHE at many levels; Create local and international communities on the

themes of HHE; Discover, invent and design ways to use ICT to support

HHE; Disseminate these innovative use to the wider

possible community; Make the project activities sustainable.

In a word: build a network

Associate partners(schools, other networks

like HOPE and HELP, goverment bodies…)

Online Hub and Communities LeHo is developing an international network

for Home and Hospital Education (HHE) with the use of ICT as enablers.

The LeHo online hub is open for everybody involved and interested in the topic and includes resources that are being developed or collected by the LeHo team.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO ACHEIVE THESE GOALS?

Let’s go a bit deeper

Improving: the education of the ill child with ICT:

by a connection with his own class/home school; by a connection to a virtual classroom of ill students.

the profile and competencies of the hospital/home teacher in connection with technologies and their role.

the competencies of the workers involved (nurses, volunteers, technicians...) with ICT and their role.

Objectives and targets - 1

Provide helpful ICT solutions in terms of information and support to parents and families of students with medical needs.

Raise awareness of the contribution of ICT and digital media in support HHE beyond the network itself.
