reminders!Dear LCDS Families and Friends,
“Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man, it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.” [Edward Sandford Martin (1856-1939)]
In traditional terminology, gratitude is cuyv ,rfv, hakarat hatov, which translates felicitously as “recognizing the good.” Even in these tough economic times, we recognize how blessed we are by the people we love and the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. May we be inspired to sanctify our blessings by our response to the Divine call of “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9). Adam did not respond substantively, but Abraham was ready, willing and able to “walk in My ways.” (Genesis 17:1). We have the freedom—and the obligation—to pursue our dreams of turning indifference into caring and working with God to perfect our world.
On behalf of our trustees, faculty and staff, happy and healthy Thanksgiving, cuy asuj chodesh tov (the good month of Kislev begins Thursday night) and Shabbat Shalom.
