Making in Libraries
• Contributes to activities that provide public value by stimulating the development of network, skills and innovation
• Contributes to the libraries' relationship with its local community
• Increases the social value of libraries, as public spaces that bridge between different communities and knowledge domains
• Challenges libraries strategic and managerial capacity for innovation

6. New ways of defining the
functionality
• Flexibility is the functionality
• Maximize unprogrammed space
• Leave the media and mediaformats as the
focus point in organizing the space
• Focus the human needs og sociality – use

Proces of Interruptions
- Internal discussion
- Selection of people and groups – who
don’t we normally talk to?
- Eight group sessions - Tell us about
YOUR world
- Analyses of findings

the new building
• Involve the users in the work
• Prepare the citizens
• Prepare the staff
• Brand the new library
Knud Schulz Helsinki March 2015 52
Knud Schulz Helsinki March 2015
Mental construction
• From tradition to transcendence – the
