RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
Under general administrative direction, develops, maintains, and provides library
services. Cross-training and working in other departments is a requirement. This position
requires complete confidentiality. Classification is exempt status.

1. Answers reference questions and gives bibliographic instruction.
2. Provides knowledge of electronic resources.
3. Teaches library related classes.
4. Recommends materials for purchase in assigned areas.

15. Serves as Supervisor-in-Charge on rotating basis.

Shared Automation System Users Group Executive Committee – Meeting Minutes
Livonia Civic Center Library July 7, 2016
Chair Paul McCann called the meeting to order at 1:31. Members Present: Paul McCann (DEXT), Martin Smith (REDF), Holly Teasdle (LYON), Ed Rutkowski (BRIT), Toni LaPorte (LVCC), Matt Church (BERK), Amy Rosen (WHLK), Patty Braden (ROMS) Members Absent: Anne Hage (HTWD) Others Present: None Guests: Anne Neville (TLN), Celia Morse (TLN - Consultant), Angie Michelini (TLN), Rick Rosekrans (TLN), Jim Pletz (TLN) McCann called for additions to the agenda. Michelini updated item G. Motion to approve agenda by Rutkowski, seconded by Rosen. Agenda approved (Yes 8, No 0, Absent 1) McCann called for approval of the June 2, 2016 minutes. Update wording about Pletz. Motion to approve minutes as presented by Rutkowski, seconded by LaPorte. Minutes approved (Yes 8, No 0, Absent 1) Reports Budget: Neville distributed a budget report covering October 2015 through May 2016. There was nothing noteworthy in the budget report. TLN Board Meeting: Morse attended the most recent TLN board meeting. TLN has a new board member named Ryan Clark. He was nominated by the Walled Lake Library and resides in Canton. The meeting was fairly routine. Interviews will take place on July 21 to interview candidates to fill the other board vacancy. Symphony Update: Neville had no update to share. Technology Services Update: Michelini reported that nine libraries updated their circuit on July 1. The redundant circuit project won’t be completed until August. Michelini shared the per-library redundant circuit project cost with member libraries. Unfinished Business A. Update on catalog enhancements – Enterprise, EResource Central, Odilo, Social Library, online user registration, group cards, etc.
Neville reported Sirsi Dynix has completed changes in Enterprise to update searching functionality. Searching should be improved for single word titles and various searching scenarios. McCann searched the catalog for “Wild” and “Unbroken” and shared what he saw. Neville indicated additional search changes are in development with Sirsi Dynix. Odilo now works in eResource Central. B. MeLCat/NCIP update Neville reported MeLCat has an update but additional details are not known at this time. C. ILS RFP ballot report McCann reported 47 ballots were returned. 41 in favor of issuing an RFP and 6 were not. McCann and Pletz shared some feedback with the committee on the results of the vote. New Business A. Review of the FY2016-2017 STS and BDBS budgets
Neville started with the BDBS budget prepared by Jim Flury. Waterford Schools is no longer contracting with TLN for cataloging services. Shared Technology Services budget was then reviewed with a few questions from McCann and Smith. Capital Reserve Fund was the next item for review. Major projects include replacement of 18 routers, switches to support SAS services, a possible Oracle server for Symphony, and security assessment. A spreadsheet showing shared automation costs were distributed and reviewed. Hartland was added as a new shared system library. There was discussion on the shared automation costs for various libraries with the new formula in place.
Motion by Braden to recommend proposed FY 2016-17 Shared Technology Services operating budget and Bibliographic Services budget to SASUG and any increase in payroll after union negotiations are complete will be paid from deferred revenue for FY2016-17. Seconded by Smith. Motion approved (Yes 8, No 0, Absent 1)
B. Report from ALA Morse reported on the attendance of ALA by Morse and Pletz. Discussions with various vendors took place at the conference. A speaker for an upcoming TLN speaker was identified. C. Celia Morse ILS RFP timeline Motion by Teasdle to accept Celia Morse’s proposal for services to prepare an RFP for an Integrated Library System for The Library Network, guide the evaluation process, and negotiate a contract with the selected vendor. Seconded by LaPorte. Motion approved (Yes 8, No 0, Absent 1) D. Authorization of RFP process Motion by Smith to begin the RFP process for an integrated library system for The Library Network. Seconded by Rutkowski. Motion approved (Yes 8, No 0, Absent 1)
E. ILS RFP prep consultant Morse presented a proposal from Third Chapter Partners for RFP preparation consultation services. TLN’s legal counsel would review the proposal prior to it being approved. Motion by Braden to accept the proposal from Third Chapter Partners for RFP preparation consultation services to be paid by capital reserve funds. Seconded by Rosen. Motion approved (Yes 8, No 0, Absent 1) F. RFP Evaluation Criteria The evaluation criteria has to be included in the RFP so must be finalized at the August meeting. Discussion will take place by the Executive Committee via email prior to the August meeting. Last time the evaluation was conducted by a subcommittee of the Executive Committee. G. Security Assessment Proposal Michelini sent an RFP in March for a security assessment proposal. Six vendors submitted bid responses and three finalists were identified. TLN staff recommends contracting with RSM for a total cost of $11,250. Rutkowski motioned that the Shared Automation Executive Committee recommends to The Library Network Board the Security Assessment contract to be awarded to RSM US LLP in an amount not to exceed $10,000. Funds to come from SAS Capital Reserve Fund. The TLN Capital Reserve Fund will cover the remaining amount. Seconded by Smith. Motion approved (Yes 8, No 0, Absent 1) H. 2016-17 Committee election Committee election coming up in September. Terms for McCann, Church, Hage, and Teasdle are up. Garrett Hungerford will be assuming the role of SASUG chair for the upcoming year. Other Items from Committee members None Adjourn LaPorte motioned to adjourn meeting at3:47 pm. Seconded by Teasdle. Library is actively searching for candidates who show enthusiasm, skill and competence in using and explaining computer
and network technologies.
The Computer Page is engaged in helping the public use Library technology resources, and helping people with basic and
advanced usage of computers and the Internet, as well as some troubleshooting software, services and equipment.
Hours: 10 to 14 hours each week. Flexible scheduling is essential. Includes availability on weekends and evenings. This
is a part-time position.
Pay Range: Start at $10.00/hr
Duties include the following:
1. Assisting users by doing simple and intermediate troubleshooting as needed related to printing, emailing, using
browsers and Windows operating system, and connecting to wireless access, Wireless Printing and more.
2. Signing up and, as needed, checking identification for patrons wishing to use the library’s Internet workstations and
wireless access, including letting users know when their time is up.
3. Assisting patrons with proper and successful usage of the Library Print system, including application of monies to
account via the Library Payment system.
4. Answering general and intermediate computer and technology questions from patrons and staff alike.
5. Working on other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills Required:
1. Demonstrable aptitude in explaining the usage of technology resources.
2. Familiarity with the Windows computing environment, including general knowledge of Windows 7/8/10, and Office
