In today's Gospel we find that God is a God of the living, and this is indeed the core of our hope. Jesus has risen and is with us, there fore, at no time should we be without hope for the future. When you give furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you give hope to your neighbors who are really in need. For information on how to donate, please call St. Vincent de Paul in Abington at 781-878-1194 or in Whitman at 781-447-8560.

A special thanks from the St. Vincent DePaul/Whitman food pantry to the scouts of Whitman for a job well done raising over 3,000 pounds of much needed food for the pantry.

STAIN GLASS WINDOWS This past week the Knights of Columbus #347 installed several stain glass windows at Holy Ghost Church that were repaired over the last month. We want to sincerely thank all those that donated funds to have the 7 windows refurbished. We also want to thank the Knights, especially Terri Plante, Dan McDon-ald and Russ Kenn, for donating their time and talent to remove, repair the frames and reinstall the windows. Their efforts have saved the Parish over $6,000.00 if someone else was hired to do this work. If over the winter anyone would like to donate funds to refurbish a window in memory of a loved one or as a gift to the Parish please see Charlie Guillemette in the rectory or call Jim Davidson at 781 447 5889. We will resume the work on the windows in the spring as funds allow. If you would like to donate smaller amounts on a monthly basis you may do so by placing your donation in an envelope marked “Stain Glass Window Repair” and place it in the weekly collection or drop it by the rectory.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative, We are coming close to the end of the Liturgical Year. The readings over the next couple of weeks prepare us to think about end-times. In today’s Gospel we see an encounter between Jesus and some Sadducees. Sadducees and Pharisees were two different parties within Judaism. Pharisees believed in the resurrection, Sadducees did not. That is why they are “Sad-you-see”. In this passage they are trying to disprove the concept of resurrection using marriage laws. The Sadducees argued against resurrection and new life after death because of the limits of earthly existence. They did not imagine another possibility for existence and relationship with God. For Jesus, an eternal relationship, new life, with God is possible, for God is the God of the living. For God, all are alive. Jesus makes it clear that life after death is not just an extension of this life. What happens after death is a transformation that we can't even imagine. Cardinal Seán and all the Bishops of Massachusetts are asking everyone to Vote No on Question 4 on November 8th. A "no" vote opposes the proposal to legalize recreational marijuana. Please look to: http://macatholic.org/votenoon4 for more information concerning this ballot question. Veterans Day – this Friday, November 11. World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles in France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” It was originally called “Armistice Day.” Years later after World War II and Korea, Congress changed the name to Veterans Day to honor American veterans of all wars. Please remember in your prayers all veterans, both living and dead, and pray also for peace among all nations. Thank you to all our veterans! If you haven’t done so yet, please participate in the survey from our Parish Nurses. Our Parish Nurses are looking forward to pioneering a health and wellness ministry for our Collaborative. The nurses will work to assess the health and wellness needs of the parishioners and have plans to offer educational and health promotion programs based on these needs. If you haven’t done so yet, please fill out the Survey Sheet found at the doors of the Church and return it as soon as possible. Please participate in the survey as everyone’s input is very important in the planning. NEXT Sunday morning at the 10:30 Mass at Holy Ghost, we will be welcoming all the “new men” at Pope Saint John XXIII National Seminary. For the past few years, these new students to the Seminary have been

coming to Holy Ghost Parish to learn what a Parish does when someone becomes ill, needs assistance and hospice, passes away, planning the Funeral Liturgy and burial. It is a great learning experience for the men studying for the priesthood. They will learn all that a parish can do to bring the love and hope of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering the loss of a loved one. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Beginning Sunday, November 20th, there will be four (4) different “Thanksgiving Services” offered during the week in Abington and Whitman. Two (2) of these Services are Ecumenical. The Christian Churches in each town are offering a Thanksgiving Service. Abington’s Ecumenical Service will be Sunday evening (Nov. 20) at 6:30 p.m. at St. Bridget Church. Whitman’s Ecumeni-cal Service will be on Tuesday evening (Nov. 22) at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitman United Methodist Church at 503 South Ave. Holy Ghost Parish will offer a Thanks-giving Mass on Wednesday evening (Nov. 23) at 7:00 p.m. St. Bridget’s will offer a Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday morning (Nov. 24 – Thanksgiving Morning) at 9:00 a.m. I will be participating in all 4 of the Ser-vices. I encourage every parishioner to attend at least one of them, if not more. I am a firm believer that gratefulness is the heart of all prayer. Please come and offer your gratitude to the Lord at one or more of these Services. Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney

Abington Town-wide Thanksgiving Prayer Service

On Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 6:30 PM, St. Bridget Church will host the Annual Town-wide Thanksgiving Prayer Service with the accompaniment of the Abington Town Choir. The Clergy from our neighboring churches in Abington will be participating. We invite all parishioners to attend to join with our fellow neighbors and friends to give thanks for our many blessings. As we will be the hosts this year, we are reaching out to ask for volunteers to assist with making this event warm and welcoming to all who will attend. We hope that our Confirmation students will assist with greeting everyone as well as serving as ushers to take up the collection for our St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. In addition, we will need individuals to assist with the Collation following the Service in our Parish Hall. Assistance will be needed with setting-up, starting the coffee, picking up the refreshments, etc. and clean-up. If you can assist, please contact Colleen Booker at the Rectory.
