The LightCycler® 480 thermal block unit includes a Therma-Base layer, a thin cavity lined with a wick structure and filled with fluid. Utilizing a series of condensation and evaporation events, the Therma-Base rapidly adjusts to temperature changes by efficiently dissipating heat across the block.

Therma-Base technology improves data accuracy and consistency

Real-time PCR of a 442 bp amplicon on a 96-well LightCycler® 480 Instrument and Life Technologies 96-well Fast System. Ninety-six identical reactions were amplified on each instrument, with detection using a hydrolysis probe. Each instrument was programmed according to manufacturers’ specifications. (Roche R&D data)
