    RCLP HISTORY

    The Rotaract Club ofLiguanea Plains (RCLP)is a community-based ser-vice club founded in 2008

    and sponsored by the Ro-tary Club of Liguanea Plains.RCLP consists of youngmen and women who arededicated to making a differ-

    ence in their communities.We aim to be active in so-cially uplifting programmes,promote literacy and bementors to the leaders oftomorrow.

    business provides that opportu-nity.And, its not very hard to startyour own business in Jamaica,the young entrepreneur says.According to the 2010 DoingBusiness survey by the WorldBank, Jamaica is ranked 19thout of 183 countries in theworld when it comes to starting-up a business.

    Although the current eco-nomic climate may seem

    daunting for young professionalswanting to establish businesses,Spence says there is no bettertime than now to start-up.What we are facing right now isa cycle and you want to positionyourself in such a way so thatwhen things get better you cancapitalize on the opportunities,he says. In times like thesesome assets are more easily ac-quired because they are beingsold for less than their actualvalue and you can fetch an evenbetter value when the climateimproves.

    Wellness Tour 2010: Rotaract Edition

    In September Rotaractors played their part inensuring that our parent club, the Rotary Club

    of Liguanea Plains had a successful stop onits Wellness Tour.The Wellness Tour is an annual project of theShipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ), in part-nership with the Rotary Club of LiguaneaPlains, and is in its fifth year. Both organiza-tions joined with the Rotaract Club of LiguaneaPlains and the Rotary Club of Kingston Eastand Port Royal in this years undertaking.The first stop was the Caribbean Maritime Insti-tute (CMI) and students of the institution aswell as residents of Port Royal benefited fromthe week long health outreach.

    The CMI family and residents received generalhealth check-ups, diabetes screening, hyper-tension checks as well as optical screening.Some participants also received free medica-tion.Speaking at the ceremony, President of theShipping Association of Jamaica, RogerHinds , pledged the association's support forthe Wellness Tour for years to come. "The SAJfirmly believes in giving back to the communi-ties it serves as well as the wider society, andwellness has always been at the heart of theassociation's service," Hinds said.President of the Rotary Club of Kingston East

    While rain dampened a num-ber of the planned activities forNew Generations month, Rota-ract Club of Liguanea Plains(RCLP) members were stillable actively participate in anumber of successful club ac-tivities.

    The First meeting for themonth was an informative ex-ercise for members and visi-tors alike, as Jamaica RedCross President, Dr JaslinSalmon was a special guestspeaker.He gave a wide ranging pres-

    entation which highlighted themany outreach activities of theRed Cross in communities allacross the island. He also

    made special mention of theOrganizations role in assistingthe ODPEM in times of disas-

    ter.Based on his presenta-

    tion club members and visitorshad several questions andshowed keen interest in futureinvolvement in Red Cross or-ganized activities.New Generations month wasalso an opportunity for Fellow-ship and RCLP members vis-ited a number of other Rota-ract Clubs including the Rota-ract Clubs of St Andrew, New

    Kingston and Kingston.In the true spirit of Newgenerations month membersalso visited Rotary Clubs suchas the Rotary Club of St An-
