What a great way to end a summer with Millbrae Art and Wine Festival. We had great weather, great music, and cold beer to keep us hydrated. Good to see the newbies representing the Millbrae Lions. Our newest members, and their ladies served and enjoyed beer on tap during the final day of the Festival. I’m proud to say that over twenty-five Lions and spouses helped out over the two - day event. The Leos also had a booth. They provided soda and water for the Labor Day crowds that enjoyed themselves in Millbrae. Thanks to all who served. It is with great sadness that one of our own Lady Lions has passed away. Lady Lois Pape. Lady Lois was a big part of the Lions Club for many years with Lion Ron Pape. She will be greatly missed, and will always be remembered as we continue on with her Legacy in mind. I hope everyone has rested up because September is a very busy Month, as is Oct. I ask that everyone that can help out this month to please come out and participate. Consider this an invitation to VOLUNTEER! See you in the community. Year President Key Vision and Goals 2018-19 Bart Speccia

• Empower Millbrae Lions Club members to serve the community through our may projects. Encourage all to be active, reinforcing traditional Lions projects while finding new ways to broaden and deepen the impact that our club has in Millbrae, and beyond.

“Good leaders must first become good servants” -Robert Greenleaf 2017-18 Dave Van Wart

• Ensure that our new members (active men and women in our community) get involved early in their membership and fit our expectations of sweat equity supporting our projects and programs…not just writing the check

2016-17 Bruce Sutter

• Ensure the MLC Project Portfolio met the needs of the community (Schools, youth, seniors and other non-profits) and grow our membership.

2015-16 Lorrie Kalos

• Work Effectively in Numbers to support the community and have fun. 2014-15 Calvin Chin Back To Basics

• Understand and embrace – “Who Do We Serve”?

• 5 year MLC Roadmap (refresh every year)

• Refresh MLC Project Portfolio, no sacred cows.

• Rekindle and develop effective working relationships with both Millbrae community and fellow community service organizations.

Lions PP John Muniz at PTSO event presenting Donation Since the re-birth of our Millbrae Leos Club in April 2007, they understand the importance of raising their own funds (via their own fundraisers) and invest these funds back into our Millbrae Community and Schools. Tonight, at the Mills High School PTO Welcome Back To School Event, they donated $1,000 to support Mills Annual Fund. Mills PTO President Joy Pasamonte Henry accepted the check. Lion PP and long time Millbrae Leo Advisor John Muniz attended. Since April 2007, our Millbrae Leos have raised and donated over $50K in total! The Milbrae Lions is so proud of our best in class Millbrae Leos! — Thanks Mills PTO Parent Barry Pon for providing the picture.

All Lions projects take countless hours of preparation and planning. Once a project is drawing near the chairs of each of the projects listed above can use all the help that our members can provide. Executing the events is always a challenge, and always worth the effort that it takes to make things run smoothly. If you have any time to serve please contact the chairperson of the upcoming event and ask the following question: “How Can I Help”?

Lions Clubs Code of Ethics

• To Show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service.

• To Seek success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my own self-respect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part.

• To Remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another's; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself.

• Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards others, to resolve such doubt against myself.

• To Hold friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.

• Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state, and my community, and to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act, and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor and means.

• To Aid others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.

• To Be Careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.

Lions Clubs Objectives

• To CREATE and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.

• To UNITE the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship, and mutual understanding.

• To TAKE an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community.

• To PROMOTE the principles of good government and good citizenship.

• To ENCOURAGE service minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.
