500 YEARS IN THE MAKING

As the world celebrates the 500th anniversary of theProtestant Reformation, Zion Lutheran proudly celebratesour rich Lutheran heritage. 500 years ago on October 31, 1517, Martin Luther sparked theReformation when he challenged the papacy and the RomanCatholic Church for selling indulgences for the forgiveness of sinsand boldly proclaimed that salvation is not found in works but inCHRIST JESUS alone by GRACE alone, through FAITH alone,

according to SCRIPTURE alone. Luther preached the importanceof education for ALL people, not just elite males. He pressed forthe opening of new schools, recommended monasteries beturned into schools, and sought to ensure that every parish had itsown school. The Reformation continues to have far reachingeffects touching everything from our Constitution, to biblicalliteracy, to education for all people, to the origin and mission ofour Lutheran School system. As a result, this historic500th anniversary presents a powerful opportunity for ourLutheran schools to individually and collectively reflect on thecourage of Martin Luther and give thanks for the opportunity toproclaim God's truth and share His love for all people
