THE LITURGY OF THE WORDThe Lectionary (book of readings) and the Book of Gospels open the rich treasure of God’s word from the Jewish and Christian Scriptures. In the liturgy, the Church faithfully adheres to the way Christ himself read and explained the Scriptures. The unfolding mystery of Christ is recalled by the Christian faithful who respond to the Holy Spirit working within them. Year B emphasizes the Gospel of Mark. The Church proclaims the Gospel of John especially during the seasons of Lent and Easter.

After the homily, Mass proceeds with the Prayer of the Faithful. The prayer of blessing takes the place of the concluding prayer of the Prayer of the Faithful. This blessing takes place only on the First Sunday of Advent. On the Second and succeeding Sundays of Advent, the candles are lighted either before Mass begins or immediately before the Collect; no addi-tional rites or prayers are used.

THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARISTChristians are baptized into the paschal mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection for the for-giveness of sin and fullness of salvation. This mystery is celebrated at every Mass, remembering Christ’s loving deed and giving thanks and praise to God. By this action the “Sacrifice of the Cross is continuously made present in the Church” (GIRM, no. 72).
Presentation and PreParation of the Gifts sit
Gifts are collected for the poor and for the Church. Bread and wine are brought to the altar table, and everything is prepared for the celebration. If no chant is sung, the Priest may pray aloud, and all may respond:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. The ScruTinieS (Third, Fourth and Fifth Sundays of Lent)I. INVITATION TO SILENT PRAYER
Following the Liturgy of the Word and homily, the elect come forward with their godparents. The cel-ebrant invites the assembly to pray in silence and to ask that the elect be given a spirit of repentance, a sense of sin, and the true freedom of children of God.
He then invites the elect to also pray in silence, suggesting that as a sign of their inner spirit of repen-tance they bow their heads or kneel.
II. INTERCESSIONS FOR THE ELECTAfter the period of silent prayer, the community and the elect stand for the intercessions. During the intercessions, the godparents stand with their right hand on the shoulder of the elect.
III. EXORCISMThe ceremony continues with the prayer of exorcism in which the celebrant asks that the elect be freed from the effects of sin and from the power of Satan. With this prayer the elect receive new strength in the midst of their spiritual journey and open their hearts to receive the gifts of the Savior.
Following the exorcism, all join in singing an appropriate song.
IV. DISMISSAL OF THE ELECTThe elect are normally dismissed at this point, and the rite continues with the Liturgy of the Eucharist. If the Eucharist is not celebrated, the faithful and the elect are dismissed together, and an appropriate song may conclude the celebration.
THE WAY OF THE CROSSTradition holds that Jesus walked from Pilate’s praetorium to Golgotha (the Place of the Skull). The de-votion known as “the way,” or Stations of the Cross (Via Crucis), originated with pilgrims who walked the Via Dolorosa (the “way of tears”) in Jerusalem. In 2001, the Congregation for the Discipline of the Sacraments issued the Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy (DPPL) and, when referring to this devotion, stated that “In the Via Crucis, various strands of Christian piety coalesce: the idea of life as being journey or pilgrimage; as a passage from earthly exile to our true home in Heaven; the deep de-sire to be conformed to the Passion of Christ, which imply that his disciples must follow behind their Master, daily carrying their own crosses (cf. Luke 9, 23)” (DPPL 133). (For music see #101.)

Hay luz del cirio pascual que está en la entrada. la gente se congrega alrededor del cirio encendido; cada persona recibe una pequeña vela apagada. El líder de la oración, los lectores y los ayudantes están apropiadamente vestidos con ropaje típico.
Líder: Buenos días. Durante la novena, hemos estado saludando a María con la letanía, y en ella la llamamos “Estrella de la mañana”. María es la primera estrella que reflejó la luz del sol que es Cristo. Pidamos a nuestra Madre de Guadalupe en este día ya comenzado, que tam bién nosotros refleje-mos la luz de Cristo en nuestros hogares, en nuestro barrio y en nuestras vidas. Reciban la luz de Cristo.

Se abrió el templo de Dios en el cielo y dentro de él se vio el arca de la alianza. Apare-ció entonces en el cielo una figura prodigiosa: una mujer envuelta por el sol, con la luna bajo sus pies y con una corona de doce estrellas en la cabeza. Estaba encinta y a punto de dar a luz y gemía con los dolores del parto.
Pero apareció también en el cielo otra figura: un enorme dragón, color de fuego, con siete cabezas y diez cuernos, y una corona en cada una de sus siete cabezas. Con su cola barrió la tercera parte de las estrellas del cielo y las arrojó sobre la tierra. Después se detuvo delante de la mujer que iba a dar a luz, para devorar a su hijo, en cuanto éste naciera. La mujer dio a luz un hijo varón, destinado a gobernar todas las naciones con cetro de hierro; y su hijo fue llevado hasta Dios y hasta su trono. Y la mujer huyó al desierto, a un lugar preparado por Dios.
