C h i l eChile is a land of great contrasts and remarkable beauty, which offers its visitorsan ample scope of alternatives to enjoy splendid leisure or adventure holidays.

Located in South America, between the Pacific Ocean and the Andean MountainRange, Chile has an abundant variety of different landscapes and climatic zonesaccording to its distinctive geographic regions. This spectrum reaches from theheat and aridity of the Atacama Desert (considered to be the driest desert in theworld) to the mysterious Rapa Nui (Easter) Island, and the Juán Fernándezarchipelago with Robinson Crusoe Island, to the temperate climate of the centralzone, the Island of Chiloé, and the heavy rainfall and temperature drops of theultimate south, from where the desolate landscape of Tierra del Fuego gives wayto the Antartica which preserves over 90 % of the ice reserves and 70 % of thefreshwater reserves of the world.

The Lodge Slow has ample experience in organizing photo safariin Torres del Paine for people who are interested in landscapesand wildlife. The Torres del Paine National Park is one of the mostextraordinary places in Chile for the photography of fauna, floraand scenery. Each departure is guided by a professional photographerwho lives in the area year around.

During your trip you’ll have the opportunity to shoot magnificentvistas and an up close visit to the Glacier Grey part of the southernPatagonian ice field. Chances are we’ll view a brilliant display ofice calving from the glacier. Other highlights include the majesticAndea Condor with its wing span of up to ten feet or a Chileanflamingo, a contrast in this harsh landscape. We lodge at theHosteria Pehoe, the most centrally located hotel in the park andwith spectacular views of the Paine massif just a step or short walkoutside your bedroom door.

Wildlife: Spring in Patagonia offers long days of sunlight, vastlandscapes of steepe (pampa) and a world of native flowers andplants springing alive. This is the time when the young are bornof the wildlife unique to the area, guanacos (Llama family), foxes, hares, ñandu (ostrich family) and pumas (mountain lions) in additionto many more varieties of birds.

Landscapes: Patagonia in the fall is a unique opportunity to capturethe explosion of colors as the leaves on the native Nothofagustrees change to bright red against the back drop of the snow cappedpeaks of the Paine Massif. It’s a time to take advantage of thesunlight that has softened and changed angles since the summer, creating magnificent shadows over the pampas and the rolling hills.
