We had a wicked battle of 3-on-3 Warlords of Erehwon with Blake Radetzky, Chip Aaron, Cameron Radetzky and Carlos Sierra.
Dwarves and Orcs vs. Elves and Barbarians. Don’t ask why it worked out that way. Alliances can get complicated, just ask NATO.
The pre-game involved a lot of smack talk via text messages. Bad blood was running thick before the battle began. The game was played at Multiverse Games - San Antonio
The first few turns were good for the E-Bs. Withering bow fire sl...owed down the D-Os and put several pins on the dwarves. Orc archers were killed and the dwarf organ grinder was wiped out in one volley of arrows from the elf rangers.
Then, the tide turned for the D-Os. The Elf cavalry attempted a charge on the dwarf battle lines. Cavalry was pushed back several times by the dwarves with help from the orc chariot. The cav was eventually destroyed and one elf general with it. Meanwhile the barbarian and orc generals met in the center of the table for a vicious duel. When the dust settled, the barbarian king stood victorious over the mighty orc leader.
The game was called on turn 6. The Dwarf-Orc alliance lost more units but the Elf-Barbarian alliance lost more in point value. The victory went to the D-Os

WW III Update. Rob (W. Germans) + Tony (British) took on Chris (combined Poles and Soviets) in a capture the objectives mission.
NATO smartly used their spearheads to capture the objective in their table half and contest the middle objective while the Warsaw Pact used their spearhead merely to secure the objective in their table half.
After that, it was a game of attrition with more smoking wrecks on the Warsaw Pact side, but more infantry casualties on the NATO side.
At the end, the Warsaw Pact was unable to contest the middle objective and NATO held the victory.

The Battle of Marston Moor was fought on 2 July 1644
8 of us got together at the Game Closet in Waco, Texas on Sunday 29, December from all over Texas including McKinney, Irving, Red Oak, Temple and Austin. Sides... consisted of:

We played on a 16x4' table graciously set up by the owner of the Game Closet. Big Thanks! The forces ended up being 18 regiments of Foote, 35 Regiments of Horse, 4 Commanded Shot, 3 Dragoons. We had enough forces left over to kit out at least two more players so suffice to say we're flush for figures at this point although it would be cool to add another 16x4 table set if folks were interested to paint figures or attend with their collections. More on that later.
I will focus upon the center and the Royalist right flank as it was a hot and heavy point in the battle.
Right Flank:Good Steve and Infernal Steve started the ball on Turn 1 and hit the ground at a gallop. This ended up a scrum down at the midfield line for the rest of the battle. Both sides had units evaporate and retire. The cavalry battle was a swirling mess all game. The Scots gave better than the received for sure but the arrival of Prince Rupert's Lifeguard and the reserve horse held by Infernal Steve was loosed and the Scots faltered. At NO time did the Scots rout in masse. This was due to some great generalship by the Scot General Good Steve .
Center:This was hotly contested as well. Ben's Parliamentarian foote applied a load of hot lead upon the Royalist forces. Matt and Mike both took the field and fought tooth and nail to hold against Ben's Juggernought Eventually it looked as if the Parliamentarians had pushed the Royalists back and the center was in doubt. I'll let the generals "on scene" give their views. It was hard to see down the full length of the table due to the smoke and din of battle.

Left: The Parliamentarian Horse again took to spurs and a huge cavalry scrum down occurred on the left flank. Scott Clinton and Alan Spencer didn't shy away from throwing in every unit on the wing. Parliamentary forces apparently achieved the victory leaving the flank a bit chancy due to the collapse of Lord Goring. We ceded the victory to Parliament and the Scots this day. There is always another good day to die.
Black Powder Pike&Shotte gave a good game to all. The rules were simple, the morale was a bit weird at first but once one got "in the groove", ended up being ok. The only thing was the amount of time it took since it is an I go-You go game. I personally like the randomness and speed of Victory without Quarter but in this venue, with the number of players, would have been a disaster to run and play.
Ending thoughts? Should we do this again? Yes, it should be an annual or semi annual event since it drew players from all over Texas. This game is a great example of the true function of the Lone Star Historical Miniatures Association; bringing together players from a huge geographic area in common interest. Yes folks, great games DO happen outside of San Antonio haha!! What's next? The Battle of Newcastle and the Queen's Sconce! We have the collections and terrain (legit) to do this right. You should plan on joining us.

This is the tournament with style! In what other period can you see 5-turreted tanks? Unless you're playing Ogre.

APRIL 4, 1940 (THURSDAY)Neville Chamberlain gave a speech to the Conservative Party in London stating he was confident of victory and that Hitler had "missed the bus" by not taking advantage of Germany's military superiority over Britain at the beginning of the war.[11]
APRIL 4, 1941 (FRIDAY)The Germans and Italians took Benghazi.[5]Hitler issued Directive No. 27, Plan of Attack on Greece.
Americans successfully defend town of Bastogne.
The American defenders of Bastogne,from 30th Infantry Division and 101st Airborne Division along with French units from 8th US Corps successfully repelled the German attackers. Charles Torok (30th Infantry Division), Joshua Van Meter (101st Airborne) and Oscar Barela (French Units of 8 Corps) met the onslaught of the German attackers.
The German attackers were commanded by Tony Squeo (1st SS Panzer), Christopher Lisanti(2nd Panzer) and Donovan Hubbard (Panzer Lehr). The attack began slowly for the Germans as they began to take heavy fire from the well hidden Allied units.
Oberst Squeo had a particularly bad run of luck when a transport was hit by mortar fire and destroyed, inflicting multiple casualties on the occupants, who were forced to debark and find cover. The Germans then began shelling the town with heavy HE fire from their tanks and began inflicting casualties on the defenders.
The Germans were advancing slowly due to the possibility of mines reported by sketchy intelligence reports. The reports turned out to only be partially correct as they eventually only encountered one hastily emplaced mine field which Major Hubbard was able to deftly avoid with almost comical impunity. Several times.
The Allies were fairing well when a well placed Nebelwerfer attack hit a key building in town dropping it, and inflicting many KIAs in the building and surrounding units. The fire almost destroyed the fuel depot which was a primary objective of the Germans. One of the casualties was the American FOO who had just called in artillery fire from supporting 155mm howitzers with minor success. He was able to locate another artillery unit to fire but was unable to direct the fire and lost the opportunity to fire again.
In turn 4 the Allies received assistance from an M18 Hellcat from 705th TD Battalion and a Sherman tank from 9th Armored Division. The German attack succeeded in getting close to two of the objectives, which would have forced a draw, but aggressive counterattacks cancelled the German gains. Had the Germans had an additional 1 or 2 turns they could have taken the objectives and possibly held them.
This was due to the defenders on the Northern flank, 101st Airborne, not being able to recover from the devastating fire they encountered from Major Lisanti's advance towards the town. 101st gave as well as it received but just could not rally troops successfully. It appears a fun time was had by all and we are planning another battle during the first quarter of 2020.
We have already received suggestions for 75th Anniversary of Battles of Berlin or the fighting in the Ruhr. If there is a particular theme that interests some of you let us know and we will put it to a vbote or decide amongst the most popular suggestions. Time frame will probably be near mid March so plan accordingly or suggest another time frame...
