Prayers for the Unborn Minister of Praise Letter (Aug. 5, 2018) We celebrated the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the 15th of August. Many people have begun praying the Memorare at that time for the end of abortions. Relevant Radio has a set goal of 100 million Memorare prayers for this intention by the end of the year. You can listen to Relevant Radio out of Rhinelander on 89.1 FM and go to relevantradio.com to add your prayers to their count. As we pray for the end of abortions, please also remember those who have requested our prayers.

The Memorare Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, That never was it known that any one who Fled to thy protection, implored thy help or Sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee,

O Virgin of virgins my Mother; To thee do I come, before thee I stand,

Sinful and sorrowful; O Mother of the Word Incarnate, Despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy

hear and answer me. Amen.

From Our Pastor “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me.” This is the response of Jesus to the crowd af-ter Peter had rebuked Jesus. Surprisingly Peter had just said a very positive thing about Jesus: that Jesus was the Christ. But Pe-ter almost immediately rebuked Jesus for telling the disciples that Jesus as the Son of Man must suf-fer greatly and eventually be killed. Peter was able to say something nicely to Jesus but failed to accept what Jesus was actually saying about his own future suffering. Later on in the Gospel Peter even denies knowing Jesus three times when Jesus is arrested. Peter cer-tainly had his shortcomings in both admiring Jesus and then denying him. Jesus, however, had much more patience with Peter and Peter eventually not only followed Jesus but even died for Jesus. James in the second reading also insists that people cannot just speak kindly to people but must help anyone who is in need. Faith is demonstrated by works. Already in the first reading from Isaiah notes that God listens to those who are blind, deaf, or lame. God can change those things if one turns to the Lord. Being a Christian means not just admiring Jesus and his words but really listening to what he wants us to do and how to do it with the help of Jesus. Peter, James, and Isaiah have told us what and how to do it. Fr Otto Bucher, OFM Cap

Catholic Services Appeal Commitment Weekend This is the annual CSA Commitment Weekend throughout northern Wisconsin. Our parish goal this year is that every family and individual will participate to the very best of their ability, in recognition and in thanksgiving for God’s blessings. All registered parishioners should have received a special letter from Bishop Powers seeking their personal commitment and a pledge of support. Every pledge and gift is vitally important and will bring us closer to reaching our goal. Please give according to your means. This year’s assessment is $24,755. CSA envelopes are in the pews this weekend and next, and extras are in the church entrance, if you need them. God bless you for your openness and generosity to this appeal. Knights of Columbus Notes KC Prayers for Priestly Vocations will be held a week later this month: Sept. 26, from 6-7 pm, due to a conflict with the church calendar.
