Devotion Thought
During the holidays, more than 449 people in Adelaide, Darwin and Perth supported the work of Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) and walked 26km to raise funds for students in the Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya. Their target was to raise $130,000 to educate young refugees in the camp and so far they have raised $148,000 which is amazing. That means that more than 5,000 young people can continue to receive an education.
Next term, Ms Hoff, as part of her Long Service Leave, will be visiting the Kakuma Refugee Camp and will see first hand the impact of the work of ALWS in Kenya.
We acknowledge the great work of ALWS. Schools work in partnership with ALWS to see justice in the world and to understand what it means to walk in someone else’s shoes. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, we can all make a difference in someone’s life. What an empowering thought!
Dear God,
We thank You for everything that we have. You have blessed us amazingly. But too often we take what we have for granted while others go hungry.
Please help us remember those all over the world who must struggle to feed themselves and their families. We thank You for those who work among the poor.
We praise You for the efforts of people who work with the poor every day. Bless them with the wisdom, energy and material things, so that they can continue the work that they do.
Lord, we ask You to help us to recognize that hunger affects not nameless, faceless people, but other human beings: people with families, hopes, and dreams for a better future.
Allow us to work hard to bring about positive change in the lives of these people. In Your name we pray, Amen
NAPLANHopefully parents in Year 3,5,7 &9 have received a letter towards the end of last term about the upcoming NAPLAN tests being held from the 15-17 May. If you have any further questions about this, please feel free to contact me.
Seeking Community Representatives for QCS TestThe Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) employs community members to observe implementation of the Queensland Core Skills Test. Our final cohort of Year 12s completing their OP will be sitting this important test later this year. We invite members of the LORDS community to apply for the two positions as chief community representatives. These are paid positions. Payments are made on completion of all activities.
The main responsibility of community representatives is supervising test implementation on Tuesday, September 3 and Wednesday, September 4 (full days). Chief community representatives must also attend the school on two mornings (about two weeks and one week) prior to the test days for delivery of materials (approximately 1 hour each time). Dates and times are advised by QCAA.
If you are interested in applying for one of the positions, please contact Amy Dyer for an information package by emailing [email protected].
Please ensure your email is received by close of business on Monday, May 13.
Homework ClubHomework Club has started again for Term 2. Monday afternoons after school. Parents with students in Junior School must give permission via Parent Lounge. Students must be collected promptly at the end of Homework Club.
