This Reserve Force regiment originated in Edmonton,Alberta on 1 April 1908, when the '101st Regiment'was authorized to be formed.1 It was redesignated:'101st Regiment "Edmonton Fusiliers"' on1 March 1909;2 and 'The Edmonton Regiment' on15 March 1920.3 On 15 May 1924, it was reorganizedto form two separate regiments designated 'TheEdmonton Fusiliers' (now the 'The South Alberta LightHorse'), and 'The Edmonton Regiment'.4 It wasredesignated: '2nd (Reserve) Battalion, TheEdmonton Regiment' on 7 November 1940;5 '2nd(Reserve) Battalion, The Loyal Edmonton Regiment'on 7 July 1943;6 The Loyal Edmonton Regiment' on1 November 1945;7 'The Loyal Edmonton Regiment(3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian LightInfantry)' on 19 October 1954;8 and 'The LoyalEdmonton Regiment (4th Battalion, PrincessPatricia's Canadian Light Infantry)' on 1 April 1970.9

The Edmonton Regiment was disbanded for the purpose ofreorganization on 15 September 1920 and reorganized the sameday (GO 253/20). This change was administrative and does notaffect the lineage of the regiment.

Upon reorganization on 15 May 1924 (see above), The EdmontonRegiment was organized as a three battalion regiment with the 1stBattalion (49th Battalion, CEF) on the Non Permanent ActiveMilitia order of battle and the 2nd Battalion (51st Battalion, CEF),and 3rd Battalion (63rd Battalion, CEF) on the Reserve order ofbattle. The reserve units were disbanded on 14 December 1936(GO 3/37).

On 4 May 1951, the regiment mobilized two temporary ActiveForce companies designated "E" and "F" (CAO 110-2, Pt 'B', SuppIssue No. 245/51 and SD 1 Letter No. 4237, 5 May 1951). "E"Company was reduced to nil strength upon its personnel beingincorporated into the '1st Canadian Infantry Battalion' for servicein Germany with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (SD 1Letter No. 4365, 12 November 1951). It was disbanded on29 July 1953 (CAO 78-2, Pt 'B', Supp Issue No. 352/53). "F"Company was initially used as a reinforcement pool for "E"Company. On 15 May 1952, it was reduced to nil strength, uponits personnel being absorbed by the newly formed '2nd CanadianInfantry Battalion' for service in Korea with the United Nations (SD1 Letter No. 4452, 22 April 1952 and CAO 110-2, Pt 'B', SuppIssue No. 283/52). "F" Company was disbanded on 29 July 1953(CAO 78-2, Pt 'B', Supp Issue No. 352/53).
