Commitment Sunday
During this time of year many congregations are emphasizing a stewardship campaign in
one form or another. Biblical stewardship is the understanding that we all are managers
of God’s gifts to us, even our own bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19). Yet how often do we
forget that we brought nothing into the world and we certainly will not take anything
with us when we perish? (1 Timothy 6:7) It is so easy to get ensnared in this worldly
idea that all is mine and I can do with it as I wish. So often such is the mantra of special
groups who clamor for their rights and position. Often we hear, “It’s my body, it’s my
life and I can do whatever I feel like.” For the follower of Jesus, the opposite should be
true. If we are born of the Holy Spirit then we have become citizens of an unseen
kingdom with principles and an order unknown to those outside of the covenant of grace.
Unfortunately a vast majority of good church members are unaware of this unseen reality
as well and make kingdom decisions based upon their personal experiences and
knowledge based apart from the King’s government. As citizens of this unseen
kingdom, we are taught we must learn to operate according to the King’s governance and
not our own. As citizens of this unseen kingdom, all belongs to the King; the King owns
it all. As citizens of this kingdom, we are entrusted with the King’s possessions. They
are not our own; we have become stewards of His possessions.
During the month of October we will hear briefly from congregational members about
what stewardship means to them. Hopefully it will help us to gain an appreciation of the
joys of serving the King with the resources entrusted to us and inspire us to step out in
faith to make a pledge commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ in time, talent and treasure.
On commitment Sunday, November 3, we all will have the opportunity to prayerfully
commit to a 10% increase in one’s giving for the 2014 year as well as have an opportuni-
ty to serve Christ through the church using one’s time and gifts. This will be a faith
commitment between you and your Lord as no one will follow up on how you are doing
on your commitment in the three areas of time, talent and treasure.
Ask yourself in the weeks ahead, “What are ways that I myself are serving Christ?” If
you could serve the Savior in any way, what would that be? How is Christ calling you
to commit to Him?

FELLOWSHIP & CAREFELLOWSHIP & CAREFELLOWSHIP & CARE
From the Trustees: The following is the financial
report for August:
Income for July: $18,701 Expenses for July: $19,266
Year to Date Income: $160,725 Year to Date Expenses: $156,630
During August the church received $35,000 from the Douthit-Hege Fund. The Trustees have requested the church treasurer, Michelle Lawson, to credit that amount of $35,000 back again the $67,000 we had borrowed from our different accounts over the past seven years to maintain operations of the church. We still owe ourselves over $32,000. the Douthit-Hege funds have helped reduce the debt to the funds we have borrowed.
Respectfully Submitted, Dick Sheek, Chairman of Trustees

children to volunteer their time and talent to serve the
children in our worship services with a brief children’s
story sermon. It is very simple and Jeff can give you
information that is easy to follow and doesn’t take a lot
of preparation. You just need a heart to impart Christ
into children’s lives. You can email the church office
or call if you feel so led by the Savior to serve. You
will be richly rewarded by serving the least of these in
