Earlier this month Pope Francis published an encyclical that in English is entitled: “On Care for Our Common Home”. While some of you may have already read it (I have not), I think you will probably find this encyclical to be rooted in a common principle of stewardship that we find early in the book of Genesis: God first creates the world and everything in it (1:1-25); he then creates human beings as male and female in his image and likeness (1:26-27); and then lastly he entrusts the world to us (1:28-31). What is important about this is our understanding of how things work. As Catholics and Christians, we should see ourselves as caretakers of the world and not as owners of it who can do with its resources whatever we wish. We are responsible to make sure goods and services are not used just for our gain, but are for the glorification of God. This is a good question to ask ourselves when we go about our daily tasks: Am I seeking to glorify God in what I do or am I simply trying to get what I can?
As we celebrate our nation’s Independence Day this weekend, it is a good time to reflect on the many benefits that we have in being able to live here. Even in our struggles, there is an abundance of resources that our country has that many others do not. However, Pope Francis asks that we think of our country and other countries throughout the world as a people sharing a common home that God has given to us. This calls us to be mindful of how we are using our resources, our gifts, and our talents. Mindful of the many opportunities that we have in the United States to better ourselves and to achieve great things, we must also remember we can use these resources not just for ourselves but also for others in the world. Lawyers can work for justice and peace, doctors can be missionaries and share God’s love and mercy, and scientists can use their gifts to make improvements in places where resources are few. If we use what we have been given to glorify God instead of ourselves, the world becomes more and more like God’s kingdom and begins to feel more like a common home.
An interesting note about the new encyclical: Its opening line, “Laudato Si”, is actually a quote from St. Francis of Assisi that captures the perfect attitude of the Christian steward: “Praise be to you my Lord…”

Algunos de ustedes tal vez ya la leyeron (si no lo ha hecho), pienso que encontrará esta encíclica la fuente de un principio común de corresponsabilidad que encontramos en el principio del libro de Génesis: Dios primero creó al mundo y todo lo que en él existe (1:1-25), después creo al ser humano, hembra y macho a Su imagen y semejanza (1:26-27), y por ultimo nos confió el mundo (1:28-31). Lo más importante acerca de esto es nuestro entendimiento de cómo las cosas funcionan. Como Católicos y Cristianos, debemos vernos a nosotros mismos como los guardias de este mundo y no como dueños quienes pueden hacer de sus recursos lo que se nos dé la gana. Somos responsables de asegurarnos que los bienes materiales y servicios no son nuestra ganancia sino que son para glorificar a Dios. Esta es una buena pregunta para hacernos a nosotros mismos cuando salimos a hacer nuestras tareas diarias: ¿Estoy buscando glorificar a Dios en lo que hago o simplemente estoy tratando de conseguir lo que puedo?
Al celebrar este fin de semana nuestra nación el Día de la Independencia, sería un buen tiempo para reflexionar en los muchos beneficios que tenemos disponibles al vivir aquí. Cultivating a Community of Stewardship Much as musicians or sports figures cultivate their gifts by learning how to use them better and practicing more, so do all people do that with any gift God has given them. Catholics should learn not only more about stewardship and what it is, but also how to better use the gifts God has given them. In the future, this column will be used to help St. Monica parishioners understand how to become better stewards in all areas of their lives (eg, their bodies, technology, civic life) and how to better use those gifts as God call them to. We’ll provide stewardship education, youth stewardship components, voter forums, planned giving information, parenting workshops, and more. THE PRIESTHOOD
ABOUT THE MINISTRY
A priest is a consistent reminder at all times and in all places
that people are not limited to their experience on earth. A priest
is a witness to the truth that heaven is not merely a fairy tale,
and the priest's life and choices are evidence of his belief that
heaven is a reality worth dedicating one's entire earthly life to.
SPIRITUAL GIFTS REQUIRED: A dedication to the life to come,
with a single-minded devotion to this work, bearing witness to a
world in need of authentic meaning.
REQUIREMENTS: A baptized, Catholic man who is called to the
priesthood by God. The Church sees herself as bound by the fact
that Jesus chose men exclusively to be present at the Last
Supper for the institution of the priesthood. St. John Paul II
stated in 1994 that a priest represents Christ Himself. Christ is
the bridegroom to his bride, the church (CCC 796, 1563). Being a
priest is a special service that also makes demands on a man in
his gender-specific role as male and father. In God's sight, man
and woman have the same dignity, but different duties and
charisms. As we see in Mary, women play a role in the Church
that is no less central than the masculine role, but it is feminine.
TIME COMMITMENT: Lifetime. Through the sacrament of Holy
Orders, a priest is permanently configured to Christ (CCC 1582, 1583).
A priest lives his life through a daily routine of designated
prayers, saying Mass, and Anointing the Sick at any time.
HOW THIS MINISTRY MAKES A DIFFERENCE: The priest
manifests God's presence in the world and brings that presence
to people in real and effective ways, mainly through the
sacraments. The priest stands in "the place of Christ" (in persona
Christi Capitis CCC 1548) when consecrating the bread and wine into
the body and blood of Christ and when forgiving sins. A priest is
a reminder to the world that this life is not all that there is. TO

Summer Lunch Program at St. Monica In an effort to minimize the growing number of hungry children in our city St Monica’s will offer free lunches to any school-age child in the building on the following dates and times. All school-aged children 18 years and younger are invited to lunch. Go to the school kitchen through the Rotunda doors. The lunches begin June 29 and end July 24, Mondays through Fridays between 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Certain security rules will apply as well as program rules. Volunteers are welcome always. Free lunch to volunteers who consistently show a helping hand to the program (USDA SFSP - Summer Food Service Program). St. Vincent de Paul Warehouse Weekend St. Monica's next turn to volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul distribution center is Saturday, July 11. The ~4 hours of work is not hard, and is great for teens looking for service hours. Volunteers should meet at the warehouse at 07:45 in the morning. St. Monica's Knights of Columbus Blood Drive Sunday - July 19, 8:30AM - 1:30PM in the Gym. The donation process takes less than an hour. It is recommended that donors have a light snack before donating. Most people are eligible to donate. There are very few causes for deferral and very few medications that are not acceptable. Indiana Blood Center must see 550 individuals each and every day in order to meet the patient needs at the 60+ hospitals it supplies. More questions? We Need Your Old Rosaries! Do you have any extra rosaries lying around your house that you don’t need anymore? Do you have any damaged or broken rosaries and you just don’t know what to do with them? Donate them! Just bring them to the Parish Office or leave them in the collection box in the Narthex. We’ll take any and all kinds of rosaries, no matter what shape they’re in. They will be repaired and refurbished and then sent to our brothers and sisters at St. James Parish in Lepatarique on our next trip in 2016. We will also take any scapulars, medals, small crosses/crucifixes or devotional chaplets. Our friends in Honduras will put them all to good use!
Catholic Business Exchange Father Vincent Lampert, exorcist for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, will speak at the July Catholic Business Exchange. His topic will be: Exorcisms: The Role of an Exorcist in Today's World. The event is Friday morning, July 17, at the North Side Knights of Columbus. Mass starts at 7am and the program will be finished by 9am. Cost for the program includes a great breakfast and is $15 in advance for members and $21 for non-members. Registration is required. Cultivando una comunidad de administración Tanto como figuras musicales o deportistas cultivan sus dones para aprender a utilizarlos mejor y practicar más, así lo hacen también las personas con los dones que Dios les ha dado. Los Católicos deberían aprender no solo acerca de lo que es la administración, sino también cómo usar los dones que Dios nos ha dado.
En el futuro, esta columna se usará para ayudar a los feligreses de Santa Mónica a entender cómo ser mejores administradores en todas las áreas de sus vidas (ej, sus cuerpos, tecnología, vida cívica y cómo usar mejor esos dones a los que Dios nos ha llamado. Le proporcionaremos educación de administración, componentes de la administración de los jóvenes, foros de votación, daremos información, talleres para padres, y más. ACERCA DEL MINISTERIO
Un sacerdote es un constante recordatorio en todo momento y en
todos los lugares que las personas no son limitadas en su experiencia
en la tierra. Un sacerdote es un testigo de que el verdadero cielo no es
una precisamente un cuento de hadas, y la vida y decisiones del
sacerdote son evidentes en su creeencia que el cielo es una realidad y
que vale la pena vivirlo aquí en la tierra.
DONES ESPIRITUALES REQUERIDOS: Una dedicación a la vida
por venir, teniendo en cuenta la devoción a su trabajo, siendo
testigos en este mundo necesitado de un auténtico significado.
REQUISITOS: Un hombre Católico, bautizado, es llamado al
sacerdocio por Dios. La Iglesia se ve a sí misma obligada por el hecho
de que Jesús escogió exclusivamente a hombres para estar presentes
en la Última Cena para la institución del sacerdocio. San Juan Pablo II
declaró en 1994 que un sacerdote representa a Cristo mismo. Cristo es
el novio de la novia, la Iglesia (CCC 796, 1563). El ser un sacerdote es un
servicio especial que también demanda en un hombre en su género
específico en su papel de hombre y padre. A los ojos de Dios, el
hombre y la mujer tienen la misma dignidad, pero diferentes tareas y
carismas. Como lo vemos en María, la mujer que jugó un papel
importante en la Iglesia que no es menos que el papel masculino, sino
femenino.
TIEMPO DE COMPROMISO: De por vida. A través del sacramento de
las Órdenes Sagradas, un sacerdote es permanentemente configurado
a Cristo (CCC 1582, 1583). Un sacerdote vive su vida a través de una rutina
diaria de oraciones designadas, decir la Misa, y ungir a los enfermos en
cualquier momento.
CÓMO ESTE MINISTERIO HACE LA DIFEREMCIA: El sacerdote
manifiesta la presencia de Dios en el mundo y lleva esa presencia a las
personas de maneras reales y efectivas, principalmente a través de los
sacramentos. El sacerdote representa el "lugar de Cristo" (en persona
Christi Capitis CCC 1548) cuando consagra el pan y vino en el Cuerpo y la
Sangre de Cristo y cuando perdona los pecados. Un sacerdote es un
recordatorio al mundo que la verdadera vida no está aquí. PARA SER

Programa de Almuerzo de Verano en
Sta. Mónica En un esfuerzo por disminuir el gran número de aumento de los niños hambrientos en nuestra ciudad, Sta Mónica ofrecerá almuerzos gratis a cualquier niño de edad escolar en el edificio las siguientes fechas y horas. Todos los niños de edad escolar de 18 o menos están invitados a estos almuerzos. Vaya a la cocina de la escuela por las puertas de la entrada #1. Los almuerzos empezarán a partir del 29 de junio y terminarán el 24 de julio, de lunes a viernes de 10:30 am -12:30 pm. Cierta-mente las reglas de seguridad aplican para este programa. Los voluntarios son bienvenidos siempre. El almuerzo será gratis para los voluntarios que constantemente ayuden en este programa (USDA SFSP – Programa de Verano de Servicios de Alimentos). Donación de Sangre Patrocinada por los
Caballeros de Colón Domingo - 19 de julio, 8:30AM - 1:30PM en el Gimnasio. El proceso de donación es menos de una hora. Se recomienda a los donadores que coman un poco antes de la donación. La mayoría de las personas son elegibles para donar. Son muy pocas las causas y también muy pocas medicinas por las que no podría donar. ¿No está seguro si ese legible para donar? Horas de Verano de la Oficina de la Escuela La Oficina de la Escuela estará abierta martes y jueves solamente de 8:00 am a 12:00 pm en junio. En julio, la Oficina de la Escuela estará abierta solamente los martes de 8:00 am a 12:00 pm.
¡Necesitamos Sus Rosarios! ¿Tiene Rosarios regados alrededor de su casa que ya no necesita? ¿Tiene algún Rosario dañado o quebrado y no sabe qué hacer con ellos? ¡Dónelos! Solo tráigalos a la Oficina de la Parroquia o déjelos en una caja que se encuentra en el Nártex. Tomaremos cualquier y todas las clases de Rosarios, no importa en qué estado se encuentren. Se repararán y se enviarán a nuestros hermanos y hermanas de la Parroquia Santiago Apóstol en Lepatarique en nuestro próximo viaje en el 2016. También necesitamos escapularios, medallas, crucifijos pequeños o medallas. ¡Nuestros amigos en Honduras les darán un buen uso!
Legión de María La Legión de María le invita a todas las personas a que nos acompañen a recitar el Santo Rosario todos los domingos en la Capilla a las 2:00pm (después de Misa de 12:30).

No tiene que esperar el domingo para asitir a la Santa Misa. Venga de lunes a jueves a las 5:30. Seguido de la Adoración al Santísimo hasta las 9:00 pm. Esta Misa NO cumple con su obligación del domingo.

We’re here to help you find ways to afford a great education. Did you know that over 50 percent of St. Monica students receive financial aid in the form of:
Tuition Assistance from St. Monica School: This is open to any family who will be attending St. Monica School. To apply, go to www.smsindy.org and hover over admissions and click tuition and fees. Under Scholarships click the link to FACTS Tuition Management. It will open and state Welcome Grant and Aid Applicant. This is where you will be prompted to create an account through which you will submit your financial aid application. FACTS is also the company you will use to make monthly tuition payments, so make sure to remember your login information. The DUE DATE is April 15th, 2015. You will be notified in late May of the amount of the award.
Institute for Quality Education: This is open to families who have a student entering Kindergarten, who meet the income requirements. Applications will be available soon to determine if your family qualifies for this grant.
Indiana State Vouchers: This is open only to those families who have a child entering Grades 1-8, (kindergartens may qualify if a sibling was on the voucher the school year prior, or if your child has an IEP) who have attended a public school for the entire year prior to entering St. Monica School AND who meet the income requirements (based on your prior year tax return). Household Income Limits will be posted by the Department of Education soon. If you think that you might qualify, send an email to [email protected]. We will be contacting you to make an appointment with our business manager, once the state lets us know that the applications are available. You will need to bring a copy of your 2014 1040 tax return to the meeting.
