Surrounding the mighty Amazon River, a virtually unbroken sea of verdant tropical growth shrouds an astounding diversity of wildlife, remote cultures and undiscovered knowledge. For all the centuries of exploration, it is still possible to walk amid the protected forest and discover the mystic rainforest which breathes life into our planet, delving into a region that lives in our imaginations like nowhere else on Earth. Aboard the classically styled riverboat, you will sail the river against a backdrop of jungle and surging water. By traveling with Massachusetts Audubon Society and our partner operator, International Expeditions, you will enjoy access to an incredible mosaic of habitats. Our guides will help you spot the diverse wildlife in the thick rainforest and amid the narrow tributaries of the protected Pacaya-Samiria Reserve. This expedition also helps support the conservation efforts of the Amazon Center for Environmental Education and Research.

While our Amazon Voyage navigates an incredible span of river, more than 445 miles, the actual scope of our journey encompasses so much more than miles — capturing the river, pristine habitats, rainforest, people and wildlife that will keep the Amazon alive in your heart.

Destination Highlights

Explore the Pacaya-Samiria •National Reserve, a vast area deep in the Amazon wilderness where wildlife is abundant. Large macaws are frequently observed here.

Look for birds, many of which •are only found here, including spangled cotinga, hoatzin, russet-backed oropendola and maybe the rare harpy eagle.

Search for up to fifteen species •of primates in the wild, including squirrel, monk saki and red howler monkeys.

Travel aboard the finest •traditionally crafted river boat up the Amazon.

Visit remote villages and meet their •friendly people, the “Ribereños.”

GuidesMass Audubon’s expert naturalist, Robert Buchsbaum, will join the expedition with 10 or more travelers signed on. In addition, we have chosen local naturalists guides, like George Davilla, Robinson Rodriguez or Victor Ramirez, who grew up in these same remote villages before pursuing their scientific education. Our naturalist guides not only have a vast knowledge of the Amazon, but they are amazingly adept at spotting wildlife and love sharing their discoveries with our guests. They’ll share with you the ecological and cultural importance of the rain-forest and accompany you on all your excursions. Because of them, you’ll feel as if you’ve developed a real insight into the Amazon.
