HEAD COACH TOM STONE @TEXASTECHSOCCER

TOM

STONEYear at Tech: 12thAlma Mater: Duke ‘87Record at Tech: 140-79-28Big 12 Record: 40-40-16

The winningest coach in program history, Tom Stone is in the midst of his 12th season as the head soccer coach at Texas Tech. At a current record of 14-4-2, Stone’s squad has accumu-lated the most single-season wins since 2015, when they won the program’s first-ever Big 12 Championship. Stone, the fourth head coach in school history, has trans-formed the Red Raiders into one of the top programs not only in the Big 12 Conference, but nationally as well. Texas Tech has been ranked in the top-25 or received votes during each of the last six seasons.

In his 12 seasons with the Red Raiders, Stone has amassed a 140-79-28 record and is the only head coach to lead the Red Raiders to an NCAA tournament appearance. The Red Raiders have won 96 matches in the last six sea-sons, which is second among Big 12 programs during that span. That success pushed Texas Tech to five-consecutive NCAA Championship appearances from 2012-16, a first for a program that had not previously advanced to the postseason. Stone’s group in 2017 put together its eighth-straight season of nine or more wins after going 9-7-3. Stone’s squad racked up 25 goals throughout the year, while posting seven shutout victories for the first time since 2015.

Before beginning his career on the collegiate level, some of Stone’s greatest accomplishments may have come from his time leading the Atlanta Beat of the Women’s United Soccer Association during all three years of its existence. Being the first coach hired when the league formed in 2001, Stone proved his worth quickly by claiming the inaugural WUSA President’s Cup Championship and advancing to the Founder’s Cup title match.

During his tenure at Tech, Stone has also been active on the national level, as he was hired in 2008 to be the assistant coach for the U.S. U-20 National Team. Serving under head coach Tony DiCicco, the team captured the FIFA World Champi-onship in 2008.

Prior to beginning his professional career, Stone was the founding Director of Coaching at the Colorado Rush Soccer Club from 1991 to 2000. Under Stone’s direction, the Rush would go on to win 35 state cups along with 12 regional championships and seven national championships, becoming arguably the most successful youth girl’s program in the U.S. from 1997-2000. Stone also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Duke in 1997 and at Denver in 1996.

As a player, Stone may be most remembered for his game-winning goal in the 1986 National Championship match that led Duke to its only NCAA title. Stone, a junior at the time, scored the match’s lone goal, finding the open net in the 46th minute for his 16th goal of the season. He was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player for the match.

In his four-year career at Duke, Stone was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection three times, while also setting the Duke record for most NCAA Tournament goals in a career and most game-winners in a single season. Stone was also a team captain on the 1987 squad, and still remains among the top-10 on the school’s career points chart.

Following his career as a Blue Devil, Stone played profes-sionally for Le Havre FC in France as well as for the Washing-ton Stars and Colorado Foxes of the APSL. A native of Irving, Texas, Stone was a three-year member of the U.S. Youth Nation-al Team and a two-time Parade All-American while attending MacArthur High School.

Keeton, a 2006 Texas Tech alumnus, served as the pro-gram’s volunteer assistant coach from 2009-12 before his promotion to a full-time position prior to the 2013 season. He oversees the Red Raider goalkeepers and defense while also assisting with recruiting and all other aspects of the program.

In his first season as a full-time assistant, the Red Raiders snapped the school record for wins for the second-consecutive year after going 18-2-3 overall and advancing to the NCAA sec-ond round. Texas Tech also went 6-0-2 in Big 12 play en route to a second-place finish in the conference standings – the highest in school history.

HALLAMTitle: Assistant Coach Year at Tech: 1stAlma Mater: Skegness Grammar ‘92Responsibilities: Defense

Beginning his first season in Lubbock, Hallam arrives with 19 years of coaching experience in the state of Texas and 20 overall. Recently, he was the Director of Coaching for Lonestar SC San Antonio for seven years, while also on staff at the U.S. Soccer Training center in South Texas since 2015.

A native of the United Kingdom, Hallam played semi-pro-fessionally for nine years before moving to Texas to become a coach. Since then, he’s instructed over 100 players who have gone on to play collegiate soccer over his time with various club teams as well as U.S. Soccer. He has also been a staff member of Texas Tech’s Elite ID Soccer Camps since 2012.

As Director of Coaching with Lonestar SC San Antonio, Hallam instructed the club to a new level of recognition, qual-ifying his teams into the highest level of regional play and into the NPL Finals in 2016. He introduced a club-wide coaching curriculum across the three training locations, implementing a style of play that has supported the club’s development phi-losophy. As a result, over 200 players from the club have been selected to ODP state pools, with more than 100 being offered spots on college soccer rosters. Before his seven years in San Antonio, Hallam spent three years as the Director of Coaching of Albion Hurricanes FC in Houston from 2009-2012, immediately propelling the club onto the regional and national scene. Five of the clubs teams quali-fied for the USYS National League. Then, in 2012, after success at the state, regional and national levels, the club was accepted into the ECNL. During his time in Houston, the club raised the quality of its training facilities, increased the amount of financial aid provided to low-income families with soccer-playing children and expanded its footprint to serve a larger part of the Houston area. Hallam and the club helped maintain Albion Hurricanes FC as Houston’s leading full-service Boys and Girls Youth Soccer Club.
