August 02, 2020
The Mission of Mount Calvary Lutheran, Greenville, is to POINT the Way:
P roclaiming Christ
O ffering Hope
I nspiring Service
N urturing All
T eaching God’s Word
MOUNT CALVARY WELCOMES all members and guests
today as we worship, share and learn together, in-person
and online. It is a joy to meet together and be fed with the
Bread of Life! God’s peace be with you, friend in Christ!
PLEASE LET US KNOW of your online participation by
sending an email to [email protected].
HOLY COMMUNION will be served in a
walk-through manner at this time. If desired,
you may kneel/stand at the altar railing for
personal meditation after receiving the bread and wine.
Your participation indicates a common union we share, as
a part of the body of Christ, in understanding the benefits
that Christ has promised through this sacrament. When
you commune, you are confessing as a baptized Christian
who has been properly instructed that:
+++ I believe that I am a sinner and need God’s grace for
the forgiveness of my sinfulness.
+++ I believe that Jesus Christ is my only Lord and Savior
from all sin, Satan and death.
+++ I believe that in Holy Communion I receive the Real
Presence, that is, the true Body and Blood of Jesus
Christ, given and shed for me for the strengthening of my
faith and forgiveness of my sin.
+++ I resolve to dedicate my life to the service of my Lord
in His Body, the Church, by regular group worship and
Bible study, sacrificial giving and thankful living.
NOTE individual cups only will be used at this time.
We ask that first-time guests talk to the Pastor or an
Elder before communing.
For those who are sensitive to alcohol, you may use the clear cups in the center of the wine tray.
If you would like to honor our Lord at the altar with flowers for any occasion, event, or for the glory of God, please contact Janet Kinyon or the church office.

Tuesday – Remember to VOTE!
FELLOWSHIP after Worship – We are resuming Fellowship with limited refreshments after worship, led by the Christian Growth Ministry Team. Drinks will be individually served from one window of the kitchen, and
individually packaged or plated food/snacks will be served from the other window. There will be tables set up in the Fellowship Hall for people to place their drinks & snacks (trying to prevent spills), and to assist in maintaining social distancing. Weather permitting, people may socialize outside as well. Again, participation is entirely voluntary, and we welcome a growing number of service-minded volunteers. We’re trying to keep everything simple, while encouraging everyone to resume getting involved in serving.
Please use this link to sign up for our Ministry Servant schedule. This is a convenient way to sign up and volunteer for serving in ministry to our Lord and family of faith. There are 8 areas of volunteer service – A/V Assistant (Acolyte); Children’s Ministry; Coffee Hour/Fellowship; Counters;
Elders; Greeters/Ushers; Lay Reader; Music Leader. For those who do not have a computer and wish to serve, please contact the church office and we will be glad to sign you up.
MOVING FORWARD WITH A NEW NORMAL …
Our goal as a church & childcare is to maintain a low-
risk environment and encourage good social distancing
practices. In other words, our faithful response is to
continue being the church and not abandon our calling
to be people of great faith and hope, by the grace of God.
Mount Calvary will abide by current recommendations &
guidelines for sanitizing and “risk-based” social
distancing. We are always open for ministry, even when
“deployed.” You can contact us by email and phone.
You’re invited to join us for worship online or in-person,
depending on your situation. Worship online with
“Mount Calvary Live” at www.mclc908.org, and feel free

CHRISTIAN GROWTH MINISTRY TEAM
The new banner hanging in the church Sanctuary was made for the Banner Procession at the LWML Michigan District Convention July 2020, which was to be held in Gaylord, Michigan. Due to COVID19, the convention was held virtually on Saturday, July 11, 2020. There were 9 ladies from the Rapid Waters Zone that came to Mount Calvary to view and participate in the convention via YouTube. The banner was made by Sandy Boutell of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding following the theme of the convention, “They saw the Lord”. The banner will be given to Camp Concordia after the Fall Rally of the Rapid Waters Zone LWML. (More details to follow!)
Thank you so much for your recent donation of $150 to Have Mercy. We as a community, nation and world are in unchartered waters. Have Mercy is adjusting each day,
praying for the wisdom to do our best and are thankful in our hearts to those who have supported us. Stay current on what Have Mercy is doing by checking out havemercymi.org, our FACEBOOK page, or sign up for our monthly newsletter by emailing [email protected]. Thank you for your contribution of $300 to the Michigan District, LCMS. Your gift was received on Monday, June 15, 2020 and was designated in support of the Mid-Michigan Flooding efforts. Your offering certainly demonstrates Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 12:26 and following – “If one part (of the body) suffers, every part suffers with it…Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is part of it.” We praise God for your generosity and willingness to reach out with Christ’s love to those who are affected by this water crisis. Please know that many lives will be touched through your faith-filled gift.

TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK?
Following the most recent Michigan Executive Order, EO 2020-147, the Michigan District is
offering recommendations regarding the wearing of facial masks in public worship to guide
pastors and congregations of the Michigan District, LCMS. Affirmations and guidance are
offered in response to questions received by our Michigan District staff and leaders. Wearing
a face mask is not an issue of doctrine or practice. However, we do believe it is an issue of
public witness and Christian concern for our neighbor.
Please note: The document is not intended to direct our Lutheran Day Schools and Early
Childhood Learning Centers as such ministries have very unique concerns to engage as the
weeks pass and lead toward the school year's opening sessions. Download document here >
(Mount Calvary strongly encourages wearing a mask, just as you would in a restaurant.)

“Mount Calvary Childcare Chatter”
The Mount Calvary childcare is a busy and active place to be! The students especially enjoy bike day. During the month of August bike day is on Thursday. If you venture into our parking lot on Thursdays this month, you will see colorful cones set up to provide a safe area for the children to ride their bikes. God has blessed us with wonderful weather on bike day and the kids have had a blast.
Pastor Jeff and Miss Holly have been taking the children on a journey to Mongolia during Bible time. “Go Mongolia” is a VBS program offered by Gospel Adventures through Lutheran Hour Ministries. Each week we learn a bit about Mongolia and how God’s love extends to the people in that distant land. The kids are learning how the people of Mongolia live. This week we learned about Mongolia’s major celebration called “Naadam.” The students enjoyed watching the physically competitive events displayed during the celebration. During Naadam, the residents compete in wrestling, archery on horseback, and horseracing. Did you know that Mongolia is home to the world’s longest horserace? After we watched the video of these various events, the children got a chance to try their hand at a modified version of the Naadam events. We had a center for thumb wrestling, the horse races were done with a magnet pulling a paperclip across a poster board and the archery was flinging a rubber band at a target. We had a lot of fun with our modified Naadam celebration. We then talked about how God gave the participants the skills and abilities that they needed to participate in the celebration.
Last week we learned how the Mongolians have eagles as their pets. These are not pets as we think of pets. The eagles are working pets. They train the eagles to hunt for the family. The eagles soar above the land and can find small prey for the family. Once the eagle finds the prey, they attack it and hold it for the family member to come and get for their family’s meal. The nomadic Mongolians aren’t close to town to take a trip to the store, so they rely on their surroundings for their food. They rely on God’s provision for their existence.
Throughout the entire 5 weeks of VBS time, we have been talking about God Sightings. Each week we begin our time talking about where we have seen God Sightings. Last week we asked the children how could God use them to be a God Sighting? This week, a student came back saying that she had been a God Sighting when they helped mom with dishes, another said she cleaned up her room, and another said that he was a God Sighting to a friend that was sad because he asked the sad friend to play with him. It’s been great to see them start looking for God in their surroundings. Where do you see God in your days? How can you be a God Sighting to someone else?
Please consider being part of the Mount Calvary LIFE TEAM. A Life Team is a Gospel-motivated group
of church members that communicates and shares the abundant love of Christ, in life issues within the
church, and outward into the community. Members are equipped through specialized training to be a
relational conduit of expertise and practical resources pertaining to the multifaceted aspects of life ministry.
These teams are designed to help the pastor with what otherwise might be an overwhelming task. Life
Teams are unified, trusted teams that the pastor can utilize to provide life-issue expertise, consistent
initiatives, and access to the dedicated resources. A Life Team will also help the pastor engage and inform
the congregation from the pulpit, through Sunday school, and through youth and adult education about the
importance of protecting the sanctity of human life at all stages.
