The Emirates Living Market Day took place on the 8th of December 2017, with a variety of activities and attractions organised for the residents and visitors. Besides being Christmas-themed, the event featured loads of entertainment options for the young ones, ranging from games and bouncy castles to an arts & crafts section which included face painting and sand art. This was complemented by a wide selection of food choices to suit every taste.

Community Market Day

In a city initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council for Dubai Government, from 20 October – 18 November 2017, Dubai took on the challenge to get active for 30 minutes every day for 30 days. Participating in this initiative were the families and residents of Emirates Living who had pop-up gyms set-up in the community, encouraging them to lift some weights, build-up stamina, and indulge in yoga sessions. The initiative also catered to the younger ones, providing them with play areas to engage them in physical exercises.

wsFor a greener community A survey was recently carried out in which a total of 325 non-performing trees were identified. Since the previous project in which trees were replaced with Pongamia trees was a success, the same solution is being applied in across Meadows. Planting is in progress to increase the adaptability of trees as the weather cools down. Once the project is completed, there will be no missing trees across all Meadows. Most often we plant trees to provide shade and beautify our landscapes. These are great benefits but trees also provide other more far more important environmental benefits such as:

• Trees reduce the urban heat island effect through evaporative cooling.• Trees give off oxygen that we need to breathe• Trees also absorb sound and reduce noise pollution.• Trees improve our air quality by filtering harmful dust and pollutants such as ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide from the air.

Emirates Living Christmas Home Decoration Contest 2017In a first-ever Christmas Home Decoration Contest 2017 held for Emirates Living, the community was transformed by residents who took it upon themselves to light up their villas with an injection of festive colour. As our judges searched for the best decorated home, they were blown away by the vibrancy on display and it’s safe to say that judging this contest was no simple affair!

We thank all residents of Emirates Living for doing their bit to make this Christmas that much merrier! The winners of Emirates Living Christmas Home Decoration Contest 2017 are:

WinnerDeena Habib, Deema, The Lakes

All Emaar communities came together for the Flag Day campaign to honour the martyrs of the UAE Armed Forces who selflessly laid down their lives for the nation.

To express solidarity with His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the leaders of the UAE and the nation, the UAE national flag was raised at gatehouses, roundabouts and prominent locations in our communities.

Remembering the Heroes

KEEP AN EXTRA EYE ON YOUR HOME

Kindly employ only a Securities Industry Regulatory Authority (SIRA) approved service provider when installing your home security system.

Stay secure with CCTV surveillance installations at home for as little as AED 3,000.

Installing a basic home security set-up can make all the difference when it comes to protecting your belongings. In addition to acting as a deterrent to potential trespassers, footage from independent properties can help pinpointperpetrators when paired with the community’s CCTV footage in the event of a crime.

A good security camera system will also reduce your home insurance costs - the better the system, the lower your insurance rates.

Ensuring a seamless move inCongratulations on your decision to move into your new home! To make things easier for you and help you plan your move, we’ve consolidated the process into a few simple steps:

• Apply for your Move In Permit by visiting emiratesliving.ae to log into your community portal.

• Schedule a date with a moving company – do ensure that they provide the appropriate insurance for your goods and related property.

• Visit the DEWA website or any of their customer happiness centres to apply for your electricity and water connection.

• Do not schedule deliveries of your furniture and goods prior to taking full possession of your home (with a signed contract, Ejari, DEWA connections etc.).

Evicting stubborn pests from your property

Make sure they can’t come backOnce you’ve eliminated these breeding sites, it’s just as important that you employ preventive measures to avoid future infestations.

• Keep water storage units covered• Ensure that you completely drain vases and saucers before replenishing water• Fit containers with lids before disposing of them in refuse collection bins• Change water in pets’ water bowls and birdbaths regularly • Stock ponds with fish that eat insect larvae• Carry out periodic pest control treatment to prevent outbreaks in the future

Don’t give them what they want!Mosquitoes, midges and other insect larvae love stagnant water bodies – take away this haven and you’ve effectively stopped them multiplying. Water can pool and stagnate at a number of locations around your property so it’s important that you regularly check for potential breeding sites. Common sources of infestation include:

While pest control measures are regularly coordinated by our management team to combat the seasonal menace, taking a few simple steps as active residents of the community can help curb breeding.

Uncovered water tanksor drums

Unmaintained pools, fountainsor other water features

Flower pots, vasesand saucers

Bird baths andunused pet bowls

Discarded buckets, paint cansand other containers

Keep your drain safe from the rainAfter months of unforgiving summer heat, a few rainy days can never be a bad thing. However, the subsequent clean-up certainly is – if you haven’t prepared your home by clearing all drains and sealing windows properly.

Here are a few steps you can take to keep your home water-tight:

• Check balcony and roof-top drains for blockages. Use a hooked wire or coil-spring steel auger to clear out any sand or grease in the drain line.• If you haven’t used any floor drains in a long time, ensure that there is water in the drain line. • Dislodge loose debris in cleared drained by pouring a bucket or two of hot water down the drain.• Clean the drain cover itself with soap and hot water to ensure all holes are open.• Pour a bucket of hot water down the drains periodically to keep them clear. • Heat can cause deterioration of sealants around windows and sliding doors so inspect these to ensure that they are in good condition. If worn out, have them replaced. • During heavy downpours, it is recommended that you take off the drain covers in order to facilitate rapid draining of excess water.• If you suspect any blockages in the open shafts or roof pipes, conduct a physical inspection.• If you’re going on vacation, ensure that all windows are securely shut before you leave.

Don't ‘drive’ your neighbours awayCommunity living at Emirates Living calls for a certain code of conduct that all members are expected to follow – this ensures the highest standard of living for all residents.

With this in mind, we urge you not to ignore these values when it comes to parking your vehicles.

• Do not park trailers, trucks, boats or other obstructive vehicles on the community roads – park your vehicles only within the allocated premises on your property.

• Parking on pavements, gardens or lawn areas damages landscaping and is strictly prohibited.

• Vehicles dripping fluids must be removed from the community and any damage to the roads will be repaired at the owner’s expense.

• When parking multiple vehicles, ensure that none of the vehicles encroach the pavement or community road.

• Avoid sounding your horn or revving the engine in the community as this can disturb neighbouring residents.

• Keep your parking premises clean and free of litter, this contributes to the community’s overall aesthetics.
