The Memome Project:Adventures to find the most useful memes for health and wellbeing!"Stuart Calimport BSc. MSc. MA."" London Oct. 2012"

A few definitions (I’ll make it quick) Memetics – study of ideas/words as units that are subject to physical laws and can replicate, mutate, adapt, drift, be deleted, be degraded, co-evolve, synergise, compete etc.""Omics – the study of a total population of objects"Memomics – studying all or a sub-set of an organisms memes""Memomic Engineering – targeted specific modification of a memome"

Why look at ideas from a memomic perspective?""•  Simplify study of ideas and find new ways to identify them and modify them

for human health"

•  Words and ideas that exist are not always useful and acting for mutual health and wellbeing. We can then identify, share, express and enrich for the beneficial ones!"

"•  Changes in genes and gene expression can lead to cancer, allow stem cells

and organisms like hydra to be biologically immortal, and allow regeneration of limbs. Memes and their products can act similarly– memes expressed through human action, technology and regenerative medicine."

•  In a vast sea of memes/ideas having a purposeful way of selecting memes/ideas and a way of processing them will allow us to not be competed out of existence by sub-optimal memes and meme products"

Page 4: The Memome Project, Quantified Self Meetup, Google Campus London 2012

Why did I do it?"Purpose !"•  A personal journey to find the most high impact ideas/memes for the health of

conscious beings"

•  I wanted to find something I can do now to make better decisions in order to have a bigger impact on my health and that of others"

"Why does health and wellbeing matter to me? !•  I think the lives of humans and animals are valuable to themselves and others,

and health is critical to maintain the state of being alive – Indefinitely! "

•  Yes I am an immortalist! "

•  Yes I do think my life and that of other conscious beings are the most special things in the universe "

•  and No I don’t want anyone to die "

What did I do?"•  Every time I had an idea about something that I thought was

optimal or sub-optimal for health and wellbeing I recorded it in a database hosted in the cloud"

•  So far after 1.5 years of recording, editing and deleting memes in my database I have:"!

Healthy/ethical/optimal memes = 5137!!

Unhealthy/unethical/sub-optimal memes = 6581!

Example memome entries Optimally actionable content"Optimal impact at events"Proving what is possible with achievements and examples"Optimal visual communication"Socially disruptive high impact projects for infinite lifespan"Chocolate soya milk"Willpower regeneration"Lebanese strained yoghurt"Co-optimisation "Engineering abundance"Generating support"Future utility"Intermittent cycle sprint commuting"Positive reframing"Infinite lifespan"Bootstrapping gains in robustness/health/lifespan"Mutualism"Regeneration"Mimicry"Innovating with movement"Neurogenesis"Self-efficacy"Optimal visibility"Rethinking"Reimagining"Wave mixing"Uniting mankind for infinite conscious life"Reaction rate"Substrate switching"

Lifestyles  that  lead  to  death  Mental traps"Aiming too small"Low  impact  research  Overthinking  Lack of optimal meme uptake"Not improving/changing sub-optimal objects/processes/states/properties"Engineering scarcity"Retiring"Not pivoting when on sub-optimal path for mutual infinite lifespan"Out-of-date lifestyles"Out-of-date memes"Not downloading latest memes for optimal health and wellbeing"Optimising own health/healthspan/lifespan at expense of others"Not updating others"Not getting to the core of the issue "Repeating mistakes"Low throughput processes"Conversations and narratives that act as traps"Sub-optimal transfer rate"Sub-optimal conversion rate"Out-of-date dreams"Deleterious memes"Sub-optimal value drift"Not categorising things by whether they are/might be optimal or sub-optimal for infinite conscious life"Not acting in interest of mutual infinite lifespans"Lack of incubation"Lack of acceleration"Chronic inflammation"

Healthy Unhealthy

Word cloud analytics • Word clouds – displays word with word size in relationship

to word frequency"

• My hypothesis: The top/abundant/biggest memes should be the most important to me and most healthy for me and others. If not why not?""•  If a meme was physically large in the word cloud or I

thought it was over-represented or negative or not specific I changed/deleted it using word clouds as editing tool"

Meme generation rate optimisation •  Logged memes predicted healthy per day and cross-referenced with

physical and qualitative QS measurements from Fitbit and Fitocracy. "

"•  High idea days correlate with conferences and events, sedentary

internet usage, higher calories, short or no workouts (30mins or less). These things are expensive and favor sedentary behavior and promote inflammation. "

•  Take home message: Need to hack process of getting high impact ideas in a healthy way!!

Page 11: The Memome Project, Quantified Self Meetup, Google Campus London 2012

Social memome trials"•  Recorded key healthy memes and risk memes on Pearltrees,

Facebook ‘likes’ and Google ‘1+’"

•  Found needed high impact ways of spreading healthy memes, higher visibility, and create a dialogue with others as to the purposefulness and direction of meme sharing!

Page 12: The Memome Project, Quantified Self Meetup, Google Campus London 2012

What did I learn? Learned about process: •  Recording and editing ideas includes both bottom up sequencing and

top down engineering and so can lead and inform other QS health hacking practices

•  A way of collecting and distributing healthy QS practices Learned about myself: •  Surprised which objects/properties/states/memes/processes are

actually sub-optimal for health – made me rethink a lot of what I own, do and don’t do

•  That as a human sometimes our actions and memes are not aligned with our values – and that this is a very important challenge to solve

Page 13: The Memome Project, Quantified Self Meetup, Google Campus London 2012

What worked? Totally worked :D!!•  Recording, finding, optimising and using memes/ideas and taking from

lessons learned in omics, genetic engineering and 3-D printing to engineer and instantiate the optimal."

•  Utilising both the computational and biological/organic properties of memes to my advantage."

Sort of worked :S!"•  Displaying, referencing and sharing memome and memomics process.

Needs more collaboration, better ways of accessing and utilising data."

Don’t try this at home! : (!"•  Logging sub-optimal memes/ideas. Very negative experience – a dark

journey. Take the extra time to convert the meme/idea into its opposite or log a solution to it!"

Achievements attributed to project

•  Donated over 75% of physical objects to charity and friends

•  Became vegetarian (How could I improve my health and lifespan at the expense of others?)

•  Improved muscle:fat ratio

•  Improved happiness, purposefulness and calmness (qualitative and physiological scoring measures)

•  See world through different lens– assessment of whether something is healthy or not and what processes/objects/properties/states to utilise and create for a healthy future
