The Messenger September 2019 Cumberland Plateau Baptist Association “The Cumberland Plateau Baptist Association is a network of Churches committed to evangelizing, teaching and ministering to our World.” Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 The value of cooperation is becoming lost as churches tend to move more and more toward independence and away from inter- dependence. I Corinthians 12 gives a scriptural foundation and example of the body of Christ’s interdependence on one another and the role of cooperation that is to be evident among us. When we choose to set aside insignificant differences in favor of co- operation, we demonstrate God working out unity in the midst of diversity. Then, God is glorified through our cooperation. Independence breeds an attitude or at the least the perception that “I don’t need you.” Interdependence shouts, “I need you, you need me, and we need each other!” The strength of Southern Baptist churches for many years has been its shared core competency of cooperating together for the greater good of God’s Kingdom. How many times have I heard or said, “By ourselves we can only do so much, but working to- gether we can do much more than by ourselves.” One of the best examples of our cooperation together can be found in our Co- operative Program. In our efforts to be autonomous bodies, may we not lose sight of the genius and accomplishments found in cooperating together. I recently experienced a phenomenal achievement that can happen when many choose to come together in cooperation. In fact, as I share this experience with you, keep in mind that seven entities and more than 15 volunteers cooperated together to do more than they could have done by themselves. A local ministry (FHL) here in Crossville knew about our rebuild efforts with Eastern Baptist Association (EBA) in Warsaw, NC. FHL had some vinyl material that they wanted to donate to help with the 300 plus homes that EBA was remodeling from the floods of last September’s Hurricane Florence. So, I begin to make some calls. Just this past week it all came together with the help of our association, Faith-Hope-Love, Tennessee Baptist Mission Board Dis- aster Relief, Plateau Truck and Tractor, Cumberland Fellowship Volunteers, Nolachucky Baptist Association, and the Eastern Baptist Association. Together we were able to send close to 40,000 lbs. of vinyl to North Carolina to help many homeowners get back in their homes. I wish I could explain how it all came together. I’d be writing for a while! Simply put, when I ask Baptists to come together and help, they were all willing to cooperate. The end result was that close to $70,000 in building material was delivered where it was needed for less than $1,000 in costs! Wouldn’t you consider that a blessing from God? God will bless our efforts and multiply our fish and bread when we choose to cooperate for His glory. May God be honored and glorified and let the name of Jesus be shared as these building materials are used by many Baptist volunteers. A special thanks to everyone for your partnership in mission, Kirk

“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

The value of cooperation is becoming lost as churches tend to move more and more toward independence and away from inter-dependence. I Corinthians 12 gives a scriptural foundation and example of the body of Christ’s interdependence on one another and the role of cooperation that is to be evident among us. When we choose to set aside insignificant differences in favor of co-operation, we demonstrate God working out unity in the midst of diversity. Then, God is glorified through our cooperation. Independence breeds an attitude or at the least the perception that “I don’t need you.” Interdependence shouts, “I need you, you need me, and we need each other!”

The strength of Southern Baptist churches for many years has been its shared core competency of cooperating together for the greater good of God’s Kingdom. How many times have I heard or said, “By ourselves we can only do so much, but working to-gether we can do much more than by ourselves.” One of the best examples of our cooperation together can be found in our Co-operative Program.

Just this past week it all came together with the help of our association, Faith-Hope-Love, Tennessee Baptist Mission Board Dis-aster Relief, Plateau Truck and Tractor, Cumberland Fellowship Volunteers, Nolachucky Baptist Association, and the Eastern Baptist Association.

Due to a recent city sewage pipe cleaning mishap, the entire CPBA base-

ment was flooded with raw sewage. The basement required extensive re-

pairs which are now underway. We thank you for your help with replacing

the tables.

During our remodel, we discovered that we will be needing a new stove (the oven

doesn’t work) and the refrigerator is also old and worn. New stainless steel appli-

ances would go great with the new kitchen. We have added these items (or donations

toward their purchase) to our “Wish List”. Please contact the Association office if

you, your church or church group is able to donate either of these items.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Matthew
