Creative Kids’ Page

St. Paul’s youth group enjoyed an afternoon of pizza and bowling on Sunday November 14, 2010. With

sixteen youth and two adults in attendance, we ate 5 large pizzas at Ledo‟s and used three lanes at the Easton

Bowling Center. It is not likely that any of us will be headed for bowling stardom. Two of the lanes used the

bumpers in order to prevent gutter balls, and there were quite a few “creative” ball throwing /rolling demon-

strations, including one young woman‟s now infamous backwards, between-the-legs ball roll. Bowling talent

(or lack thereof) aside, everyone had a great time, and we are looking forward to our next youth group activ-

ity in December!

What’s Coming up for the Youth Group in December?

You and your friends are invited to join us on

Sunday December 12, 2010 at 3pm for

Christmas Caroling ,

A White Elephant Gift Exchange, and Dinner

We will meet at the church at 3pm to get organized for caroling

And will plan to arrive at the Hollingsworth‟s at 5pm for the gift exchange and dinner.

What about the gift exchange?

Bring one wrapped Christmas gift with you on the 12th.

It can be either new (but don‟t spend more than $5)

or used (but don‟t bring something that has been destroyed).

This is the most fun when the gifts are humorous or used items from home.

A White Elephant Gift Exchange will then take place.

Don‟t know what that is? Google it!

Adult drivers will be needed to help transport youth

TALBOT INTERFAITH SHELTER

St. Paul’s will be hosting a week of the Talbot Interfaith Shelter this coming January 2-9, 2011. There is good news! This year, we will be hosting the shelter and its five guests at St. Paul’s! Those who were able to participate last year remember that it takes many volunteers to make the week go smoothly and it will certainly be easier for us in many ways to be in our own facility, where we know where things are and how they work. Volunteers are needed to:

provide dinners for the guests provide evening and overnight supervision (the overnight supervisor from St. Paul’s will be accompanied by the Shel-

ter’s paid overnight staff person) provide transportation for guests to and from the church (for AA meetings, showers at the “Y” in Easton, etc.) wash laundry set up the shelter at St. Paul’s and clean up when we are done other tasks as necessary provide the church with books, magazines, videos (either DVD or VHS), and/or games for the shelter guests to use

while they are staying with us (these will be returned to you when the week is over) Guests at the shelter are referred by Talbot County department of Social Services and have undergone background checks and random drug and alcohol testing prior to and during their stays at the shelter. Many of us remember last year’s shelter guests and the conversations we shared with them, the way our volunteering brought members of St. Paul’s together in new ways, and how the experience opened our eyes to the needs in our community. God is so good to have blessed us with the opportunity to share the gift of hospitality with those members of our community who need it most. We hope you will con-sider volunteering your time and energy again this year as we strive to do God’s work with our hands.

Volunteers, please contact Mike Hiner—410-822-7178.

Thank you to the Dinner Committee for their donation of six new Acolyte and Crucifer Robes.

OUR CHURCH COUNCIL MEMBERS

News from the Congregational Council

Highlights from November’s Council Meeting: The Council continues its commitment to reduce spending in order to close the gap between yearly giving

and expenditures. Among the cost-saving efforts taking place is the introduction of reusable seasonal wor-

ship booklets. This will help us save on the printing costs associated with the production of a weekly, dis-

posable bulletin. The reusable seasonal bulletins will contain an insert that will include hymns and readings

for the day, as well as announcements, and is intended to be taken home by worshipers after service.

Watch St. Paul‟s website: www.stpaulscordova.org for Advent devotions written by members of St. Paul‟s.

These devotions will be based on well-known Advent hymns. New devotions will be posted throughout

the season of Advent, so check back often! They are also available via email, so if you would like to receive

them electronically when they are published, please email Pastor Emily at [email protected]

Assistant to the Bishop Pr. Ed Kay will be attending our December 9th Council meeting to discuss the

changes made to our congregation‟s Constitution and Bylaws at the January 2010 annual meeting.

December‟s sacrificial offering (taken on the first Sunday of the month) will be directed to the Talbot Inter-

faith Shelter. Food donations will be taken to a local food pantry.

St. Paul‟s will be hosting the Talbot Interfaith Shelter from January 2-9, 2011. Volunteers are still needed

to help. St. Paul‟s Sit „n‟ Stitch group will be making hats and scarves to be given to the shelter guests as

Christmas presents during their stay.
