A leading UAE-based businessman and philanthropist has commissioned Italian architect Antonio Pio Saracino to design the region’s next iconic structure, the Museum of Photography in Dubai.

Conceptually inspired by the cultural and architectural marvels of the city, it’s designed in the abstract shape of the eye.

The dynamic visual mechanism on its roof changes depending on the view (land or sky), and its dimensional panels compose the image of Sheikh Mohammed from one angle and the image of a falcon from another.

Its two-floor circular plan features exhibition galleries organised as rays, like a photographic diaphragm and an Islamic geometric drawing. In the same manner that the image in a camera is created from a cone of light, the cone of lights on the roof of the museum symbolically display the images that are created on the roof and are, seemingly, projected from the sky.
