Bawa Mara accepted the existence of a rich variety of supernatural entities as self-evident.

Her terminology for invisible beings and/or subconscious qualities often overlaps. She used

the term “zi” for concepts like ‘life’, ‘life force, ’ ‘breath’ and ‘creature’ where humans and

animals are concerned and “diŋgir” or stems with “zel” and “lil’ for benevolent beings.

However, the prophetess was far more interested in the exorcism of the malevolent types.

She used the words “galla” and “giddim” where depression, melancholia, fear and

obsessions were concerned. Her incantations for schizoid and schizoform disturbances

contain the words “udug” and “ĥúl”. In formulas against vampirism the reader encounters

“lamma”, whilst “ŋerel,” and “lilit” were employed against poltergeistic and related

activities.
