ARTIST SERIES
AN EVENING WITH C.S. LEWIS:
“MY LIFE'S JOURNEY” Thur., Oct. 12, 7:00 p.m., VC
The year is 1963, and C.S. Lewis, the now-famous
British author, is in the twilight years of his life.
Lewis is in his element as he hosts a group of
American writers at his home just outside Oxford,
telling them the stories of his associations, his
writing, his family, his faith, and his great love for
his late wife, Joy. Actor David Payne captures the
essence of the man who created the Narnia
Chronicles in an enthralling, laughter-filled and
poignant performance.
Individual tickets can be purchased from the
Cashier‘s Office and at the event, as space allows,
for $15 (ACV member) and $17 (non-member), or
season tickets can be purchased at the Cashier‘s
Office for $96 (ACV member) and $109 (non-
member) through Oct. 12. Those with season
tickets may also attend the North Florida
Community College Artist Series in Madison and

Ashley. In 2015, Dan and Ashley moved to Live
Oak. Today they have a wonderful son, Joel, and
Dan is serving the community as a teacher at
Suwannee High School. Dan began to teach the
Young Couples class this fall term at the VC where

intricate, sultry guitar work and Claire‘s solid,
intriguing bass lines, this trio leaves you wanting to

DINING SERVICES AND YOUR
MEMBERSHIP CARD Dining Services would like to announce to all of our
ACV Members our plans to initiate the Dining
Services cash register procedures we are re-
implementing. These procedures will begin on
Mon., Oct. 23.
Due to past practices, there has been some
confusion among staff and residents with our
procedures and services. As a reminder, Dining
Services cashiers will request your ACV member
ID to offer you the discounts associated with your
ACV member status. To insure this benefit is
credited for all, the cashiers will ask for your ID to
validate the status of each member. Furthermore,
the cash register system is setup to allow a discount
off a meal purchase only by swiping your ID card.
Therefore, the member discount will not be offered
without swiping the ID card after Oct. 22. Please
remember that member discounts are offered to the
individual member only and do not apply to guests
or other members in a party. We would like to
encourage all members to wear or have their ID
card available for our staff to swipe. This will avoid
any confusion or questions on membership benefits.
We apologize for any inconvenience that you
may have had this past Sun. If you are a member
and you were charged full price please see Greg
Teator at your convenience and we will issue a
credit for the discount amount. Please bring your
member ID.
If you have any questions or concerns, I am
available to discuss them with you at any time.
Thank you for your cooperation and helping us
serve you more effectively. Best regards,
Greg Teator, Dining Services Director
2017 AUTUMN FEST
AND AUTO SHOW A SUCCESS We were happy to see many of you taking
advantage of the beautiful weather Sat. morning to
attend Autumn Fest 2017. The vendors were asked
to be set up by 8:00 a.m., and it was good they were
because shoppers started arriving early. There were
many vendors to browse who were selling crafts,
baked goods, skin care products, professional
services, and more. The event officially began at
9:00 a.m. with the singing of the National Anthem
by Karen Coke as the Suwannee High Navy JROTC
presented colors. The rain held off, and the cloud
cover and breeze made for a very enjoyable
morning, whether you chose to sell, shop, eat, or
just socialize.
Also taking place at the VS was the Cruizin on
the Suwannee Auto & Truck Show. Cars ranged in
age from a replica of a 1904 Oldsmobile Pie Wagon
to a couple 2008 models. Judging took place and
many vehicles went home with a trophy. The two
top prizes were the Members‘ Choice Award, voted
on by ACV members in attendance, which went to
the Pie Wagon, owned by Lake City‘s Gerry Hale;
and the Judges‘ Choice Award, which went to Live
Oak‘s Steven Brisbois and his 1968 Buick Riviera.
There were two ACV members who also received
awards: Bill Nickerson won one of the Best of Cars
awards for his 1931 Ford Deluxe Roadster, and Wil
Doe won one of the Best of Trucks awards for his
1946 Jeep Willys, with the mention of ―Best Patina‖
as well.
The day was orchestrated by live music. DJ
Scott Carroll played a steady stream of classics; and
Sweet Harmony, a trio of ladies from Jasper sang
several sets of oldies (as well as leading the crowd
in singing ―Happy Birthday‖ to President Craig
Carter). Both of these organizations have
entertained at Autumn Fest the past two years, and
we were glad to get them back for a third year.
To add further joy to the day, three door prizes
were won by three ACV members: Dorothy
Simpson, Martha Durrell and Dick Barkley.
Congratulations!
See you next year at Autumn Fest 2018!
PEG HARVARD’S PHOTO VOTED
BEST OF SHOW Thanks again to the eight individuals who submitted
photos for the ―Shoot the Village‖ photo contest:
Sue Farthing, Peg Harvard, Judy Hatch, Dee Jay
Johnson, Gary Kueppers, Nancy Low, Jamie
McCall and Diane Milnes. Mon. afternoon, a
festive gathering of Village members, staff, and
friends carefully perused the 30 entries and each
voted for their favorite photo while munching on
delicious pastries provided by ACV Dining
Services. Because of the wide variety of great
photos, a few had a very difficult time choosing just
one! After the votes had been counted, it was one of
Peg Harvard’s entries that had collected the most
votes: a shot of the VC from across Lake Aquilla.
Congratulations, Peg!
HOLIDAY PHOTOS NEEDED! Holiday-themed photos are needed for display in
the PC, by the Lopin‘ Gopher. The current photos
need to be changed on or about the first of Nov. If
any member or employee of ACV has holiday
photos, please contact Gary Kueppers at 658-6442
as soon as possible.
Photos from anywhere and anytime in the past
that depict the Christmas Holiday season are
needed. I‘m sure some of you have some snapshots
that would look lovely on display. I will accept
either digital or print and copy them to the size I
need. The only requirement is that you must be a
member or employee of ACV in order for me to
accept them.
Thanks for helping me keep the display photos
continuing! Gary Kueppers
BROOKS ARCHIVE NEWS At the Brooks Archive in the Village you can visit
with the Village ―history makers‖ during Oct. On
Thur., Oct. 12 and 26 from 10:00 a.m. until noon,
5
5
Jim Humbles will be in the archives. Jim was
President/CEO from 1996 to 2008; however, he
served in a variety of positions during the previous
24 years thus giving 36 years of his life to Village
history.
On Tue., Oct. 17, Pomeroy and Jerry Carter
will be in the archives from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Pomeroy was superintendent/CEO from 1962 to
1995. He saw many ―turning points‖ in Village life.
Ask him about them. Pomeroy was also a teenage
camper at Camp Suwannee, so his roots at Dowling
Park are deep.
Ask these gentlemen about their lives at ACV.
Like you, they chose to make Dowling Park their
retirement home.
The Brooks Archive, located at the Jo Kennon
Public Library in the Village, is now open Mon.
through Thur. from 10:00 a.m. to noon and Tue. and
Thur. afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Stop by
and enjoy the ―writings on the walls‖ and several
exhibits.
ANNOUNCING
BETHLEHEM AND BEYOND This year‘s Christmas season at ACV promises to
be a very inspirational and joyous time for all of us.
The major production to kick off the month of
Dec. will be the LIFE OF JESUS – from His birth
through His resurrection – as told in the production
of ―Bethlehem and Beyond.‖ The location of the
production will be on the field by the HC, and the
life-size props portraying villages at the time of
Christ will be outstanding. The dates for Bethlehem
and Beyond will be Dec. 7, 8, and 9 at 7:00 p.m.
The committee that is organizing the event is
made up of people from the Village, as well as
pastors from local churches. The number of people
in the cast will be approximately 125. Cast
members are needed. We hope you will prayerfully
consider being a part of this outreach program. Our
main goal is to reach our community with the
message of salvation, and it will be important for
you to come to rehearsals, realizing that each part is
critical to telling the story.
THERE WILL BE NO LINES TO
MEMORIZE! This production is done with
recorded music and narration and is basically a
pantomime of whatever is being portrayed at the
time. However, attendance at rehearsals will be
expected.
Please consider helping us spread His message
this Christmas! Pastor Tim

holiday gift shopping done early? What could be
more fun than receiving a gift of beautifully
packaged good things to eat from your friend or

raised when you bite into a handful of fresh nuts as
a snack. Think of how much fun the ACV Garden
Club will have when you place your order for nuts
from a member. If you don‘t know a garden club
member, call Peggy Eckel at 658-2302, or Carole

rescued. In triumph, they return to Hawaii, only to
learn that things have changed over the years and
they will have trouble fitting in. 1978. Color.

HALLOWEEN
TRICK OR TREATING AT ACV Tue., Oct. 31, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
ACV is a popular trick or treat area for many local
youth and their families. Trick or Treating in the
Village will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Participation
is strictly voluntary on the part of members.
Members living in CH, DH, WG and RV often
greet the Halloween guests in the lobby of their
building as a group. If you live in other areas of the
Village, if you leave your porch light on, it indicates
you would like to have Halloween visitors. Many
neighbors get together to welcome the young
visitors with their treats.
DEPARTMENT NEWS
VILLAGE CHURCH NEWS Dr. Timothy N. Setzer
Church Office – 658-5344
SPEAKER: Dr. Timothy N. Setzer
TEXT: Matthew 14:13-33
MESSAGE: ―I Got This‖
If you have been asked to be part of the community
Bethlehem & Beyond Christmas Pageant to be held
Dec. 7-9, please plan on attending an overview of
the program on Sun., Oct. 15, at 5:00 p.m. in the
VC sanctuary.
This Sun. evening Pastor Jason will be
preaching Part 2 of his series conclusion, ―Don‘t
Lose Heart,‖ also known as ―Look Ahead‖ from 2
Corinthians 4. Last week we learned how Paul can
say ―We do not lose heart‖ because of his
perspective on suffering. First, Paul realized
suffering can have a PURPOSE greater than his
pain. This Sun. Pastor Jason will preach on Paul‘s
second perspective, scoping the resurrection
(PARADISE). Paul kept his eyes fixed on the
resurrection when Christ will make all things new in
the last day. When we adopt Paul‘s perspective on
suffering, we can say with him, ―We do not lose
heart.‖ There is an old idiom that says, ―All good
things must come to an end‖ but God‘s word
teaches the opposite. We look intently beyond our
light and momentary afflictions toward a new day
when all bad things will come to an end at the
appearing of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Pastor Jason will preach an encouraging message
about the second coming of our Lord, and Mary
Jane Sutter will be leading us in meaningful second
coming hymns. Everyone is invited to worship with
us in BC at 6:00 p.m.
COPELAND MEDICAL CENTER Prescription Refills
As we continue in our efforts to provide our patients
with the highest quality of care, we are constantly
looking for methods of working together with you
to ensure that you are not only aware of, but also
involved in the management and improvement of
your health. One area of improvement is with the
process of requesting prescription refills. Below are
some tips to help you get your prescriptions refilled
in a timely manner.
Before your appointment, check your medica-
tions to see if you need any refills. If you do, tell
your health care provider at your appointment.
When you need a prescription refill, please call
your pharmacy. You do not need to call the
clinic.
Be sure to call the pharmacy 2-3 business days
before you are out of medication.
Your prescription may say ―no refills,‖ but a
new prescription may be on file with the
pharmacy. The new prescription will be refilled
when you call the pharmacy for the refill.
If a new prescription is needed, your pharmacist
will contact the clinic.
Copeland Medical Clinic Patient Portal enables our
patients the opportunity to request refills easily,
safely, and securely via a secure site. If you have
any questions, please talk with your health provider
or your pharmacist. The Village Pharmacy and

MEMBER SERVICES Ann Thompson, VP, 658-5400
I sure enjoyed Autumn Fest and the Auto Show. I
hope you did too. It was a good time to visit with
neighbors and catch up on news, plus shopping.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the
event run smoothly. I want to thank Chuck Eckel,
who organized the parking team. You all did a fine
job. We could not host events such as these without
our volunteers. Bob Reynolds kept the red Ride-
About busy with shuttle service for auto show
participants and conducting tours for visitors who
wanted to learn more about our ACV community.
The annual Blessing of the Animals was well
attended and I saw many wagging tales and happy
pet owners leaving.
New to Future Dates to Remember is the
Christmas Toy Project on Tue., Nov. 21, at 3:00
p.m. This is a special time to showcase the talents
of ACV members and staff who work all year to
make toys and other special gifts for children in
Suwannee County who are blessed by this ministry.
The toys and other gifts are presented to the Fire
Department who coordinates the toy drive and
distribution. Contact Dick Grillo at 658-5557 if you
would like to help, or Eleanore Catarious at 658-
5251 if you would like to help with bagging and
wrapping gifts.
Have you ever been to a cane grinding? Cane
grinding is held in the fall and Carl Driver, who
lives near ACV, has invited ACV members to come
9
9
to his property to experience cane grinding. He
does not know the exact date yet, but please call
Member Services at 658-5400 if you would like to
be notified when the cane grinding will be held and
if you want a ride on the ACV bus. I have a distant
memory as a young child of attending a cane
grinding and the joy of tasting the syrup when it
was ready.
Member Services Tip of the Week
There have been several reports of members
receiving sales calls from what appears to be an
ACV number. Unfortunately, scammers today are
able to put valid telephone numbers into their
systems to show up on your caller ID. These calls
are NOT authorized from anyone from ACV.
Please hang up!

MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT Oct. 15-Dec. 7
The Medicare Open Enrollment
Period is an annual period of time
(Oct. 15 through Dec. 7) when
current Medicare users can choose
to re-evaluate part of their Medicare
coverage (their Medicare
Advantage or ―Part C‖ Plan and/or Prescription
Drug Plan or ―Part D‖) and compare it against all
the other plans on the market. After re-evaluating, if
you find a plan that is a better fit for your needs,
you can then switch to, drop, or add a Medicare
Advantage or Part D plan. You cannot use Open
Enrollment to enroll in Part A and/or Part B for the
first time.
What you can do during the Open Enrollment
Period (OEP):
Anyone who has (or is signing up for) Medicare
Parts A or B can join or drop a Part D
prescription drug plan.
Anyone with Original Medicare (Parts A & B)
can switch to a Medicare Advantage plan.
Anyone with Medicare Advantage can drop it
and switch back to just Original Medicare (Parts
A & B).
Anyone with Medicare Advantage can switch to
a new Medicare Advantage plan.
Anyone with a Part D prescription drug plan can
switch to a new Part D prescription drug plan.
If you use the Open Enrollment period to choose a
new Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, that new
coverage will begin on Jan. 1.

DACIER MANOR Beth Smith, Reporter
We SO appreciate ACV‘s President, Craig Carter,
speaking to a captive audience on Mon. about all
the ―happenings‖ around the Village including what
has already happened and what is still in the works,
developments, buildings, renovations, and what is
10
10
still to come! Craig covered a lot of information!
Thank you so much!
Craft Class with Betty Ann started on Fri.
They worked on painting wooden crosses. On Mon.
afternoon, they stayed busy working on jewelry/
trinket boxes and decorating them! From there, they
went right into our Bingo Hour! We want to thank
Gayle Jones (DPN) for lining up our monthly
*―Mission Hour‖ speakers each month and our
speaker was Steve Heintz (DH) on Tue., Oct. 10.
In the afternoon, we had a Ride-About tour to the
―Pumpkin-themed‖ Village Birthday Party. Our
four recipients this month are Dorothy Greene
(Oct. 6), Jean Allen (Oct. 10), Ida Wells (Oct. 19)
and Vida Massengill (Oct. 25). On Jean Allen’s
birthday we helped her celebrate at lunchtime!
My ―SHOUT OUT‖ this week is to our very
own Carl Martin! Carl very recently purchased
two washers for DM! Thank you so much for
meeting this need, Carl! With some other generous
donations, DM was also able to purchase two
dryers! GOD IS GOOD! We appreciate the
generosity of Carl Martin and others!

Dreyfuss. She has received flower bouquets, gifts,
and many cards.
DOWLING HOUSE Janice Chapman, Reporter
Welcome! We want to welcome several new
residents to DH since Aug. or event July: Helen
Whitfill, Gary Orr, Dottie Stone, and Joy
Shepherd. We trust you will feel welcome among
us. Help us get better acquainted. Phone Janice
Chapman, DH Reporter, to share how you want to
be known among us.
Continue to remember in prayer those who are
ill with chronic conditions and short term illness.
God is faithful and He hears and answers our
prayers.
There are many ways to share in the FNN news
of visits with family members, special outings, and
blessings you have received. You may put a note in
the FNN box at the front desk in DH or the IC
lobby, email me at [email protected], submit
directly to the FNN at [email protected], or phone
658-2015.
DOWLING MANOR/
DOWLING PARK NORTH Welcome to new neighbors, Dean, Deb and son,
Chris Skinner. We hope to introduce them more
fully after they have a chance to unpack and settle
into their home in DPN.
Bill Jones was glad to welcome Gayle home
after her eight-day visit with their family in IN.
Their young grandson, Daniel, had major surgery,
so Gramma was there to help wherever needed.
Younger brother, Peter, was really pleased with her
homemade brownies! Daniel is doing well; just sad
he will miss basketball this season.
We look forward to hearing from you, please
send your news to [email protected] or call 658-
1418. Have a great week!
We now have the official date for our
Christmas dinner. It will be on Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m.

EDGEWOOD TERRACE Dick Barkley, Reporter
If you are reading this issue on day of delivery, all
ET residents are reminded that tomorrow morning
is a double-duty time for you. First our monthly
breakfast at 9:00 a.m. in the Village Café, and our
fall business meeting at 10:00 a.m. in the HC, where
your ideas and opinions will be highly valued. Also
on Thur., Betty DeTolve will be observing her
birthday, and two days later Carolyn Whitaker
will celebrate her birthday.
Let us be sure to continue our prayers for hasty
health improvements for Jan Forney, Mary Lou
Forsythe, and Alice Rumbaugh.
Since no ET residents‘ activities have been
forwarded to me, I will just offer a few tidbits about
myself. I am an absolute nut about college
football. On every fall Sat., I am seated in front of
the TV from noon until midnight, and often
beyond. However, as much as I enjoy the games,
the true highlight of my week comes on Wed. when
the 6:00 p.m. prayer meeting begins in the OPR. To
join with about 30 other Village residents in sincere
prayer for neighbors and others around the world,
provides a blessing which nothing else matches for
me. I urge anyone to become a part of this very
special time … there‘s plenty of space for additional
chairs.

Speaking of blessings, my dear wife and I so
enjoyed spending the first three days of this week
celebrating our 40th
wedding anniversary in the
beach area of the oldest continually-occupied city in
America.
PARK OF THE PINES Bob Reynolds, Reporter
Charles and Sarah Hays have an anniversary on
Oct. 16. Charlie, our hearts and prayers go out to
you and Sarah. May you have good memories of
years past. God bless.
My Wi-Fi has been out of service for several
days (and still is as I‘m writing this) and I‘m glad I
did not have any Facebook business on it. I can‘t
imagine the hours I‘ll have to spend trying to catch
up just on email when it finally gets repaired. Oh
my have I struck a cord! I was encouraged to get on
that cyber business a couple of years ago and after
two weeks quickly got off. However, they told me
that they would keep me on for another two weeks
in case I changed my mind. Yeah, right! Too many
friends waiting to connect with me and I had no
idea who they were, even though the names and
pictures were on the page. Who are these
mysterious people who want to be your friend? The
only way I could get them off the list, and I just
thought of it now, would be to ask them to help me
out and send money.
Several POP neighbors have seen the dancing
deer I mentioned last week. How long will it stay
around? I know some mineral blocks and corn will
soon be distributed around in some yards, so I‘ll
enjoy the action and let others feed them. Beautiful
animals.
There were some beautiful vehicles on display
last Sat. and I presume there is a lot of energy used
due to polishing, waxing, and dusting. We benefit
from their enthusiasm in their ―hobby,‖ but golly
gee, where do you drive them except to car shows?
Would you drive them to the mall to go shopping?
Just leave a card in the window, ―Look, but do not
touch‖ and go into the mall.
A thief in Paris planned to steal some paintings
from the Louvre. After careful planning, he got
past security, stole the paintings, and made it safely
to his van. However, he was captured only two
blocks away when his van ran out of gas. When
asked how he could mastermind such a crime and
then make such an obvious error he replied,
―Monsieur, that is the reason I stole the paintings. I
had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van
Gogh.‖

THANK YOU
I want to thank everyone for their prayers while I
was in the hospital for the last weeks. Thank God
for His answer to prayers. I travelled to Live Oak,
Lake City, and Shands UF Gainesville. I finally
came home on Oct. 3. There was a time I was not
sure I would be home. Thank God!
Alan Doneburgh
I want to thank all who remembered me in your
thoughts and prayers during my recent hospital stay
and since. Cards, birthday gifts, and visits are also
encouraging. God bless you all. Janice Chapman
Many thanks to those who sent birthday greetings
for my special day. I fully expect to reach 100, and
you have graciously encouraged me all the way.
May God bless you, Myra VanderWal
Due to the efficiency of the FNN in spreading the
news of happenings in the Village, we have lost and
found items, events that are coming up and news of
each housing area throughout the whole ACV
complex. A black cat named Grace was lost and
there was a sad household in RW after a week
without Grace. On Wed., after the FNN was
delivered, a call was received from someone who
was feeding a black cat. Do you know how many
black cats there are in the Village? Overwhelming!
The black cat being fed was Grace. Thank you to
all who eyed a black cat and called Ruth. Today,
there is a joyful house once again in RW. Ruth
Shields, Mya, and of course, Grace. MEOW!
