As I write this month’s newsletter, it is the

day after one of the greatest spiritual

leaders in my lifetime and most likely your

lifetime has passed. Billy Graham would

never have called himself perfect-at one point he compared himself to the thief on the

cross. On thing we must remember is that we are all like the thief on the cross. We

justly deserve to pay for our sins and crimes. Luke 23:41 “And we indeed are suffering

justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done

nothing wrong.”

Most of us would say “Billy Graham was a greater Christian that I could ever be.” The

reality is this, he was just a sinner like us, saved by grace. So where do we go from here,

who takes up the torch, who leads the next generation? For many years I had thought

Franklin Graham would or already had taken up the torch to lead the next generation. I

came across this quote for Billy Graham: “I don’t need a successor, only willing hands to

accept the torch for a new generation.” We all need to have willing hands to serve the

Lord.

I will leave you with this thought. In the men’s bible study, we had this memory verse.

Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.”

Some may say “if I love God He will give me what I want.” This is not what this verse is

saying. Rather, it means if we delight in the Lord then we will be seeking Him, and our

desires will be to see His will done in our lives and those around us.

So who should take up the torch? Every Christian must take up the torch!

This year, because of the way the calendar falls, we will have some of our Easter events in March. The Choir Easter Cantata will be one of those events, presented on March 25 at the 8:30 a. m. service. This year’s cantata is entitled “Hallelujah! He is Risen!” It combines some of the familiar Easter hymns with original music selections tied together with a powerful narration based on the Gospels telling of the events surrounding Jesus’ last entry into Jerusalem through to His Resurrection. It is an uplifting, powerful musical selection that captures the hope that Jesus’ death and resurrection gives us. So, join us as we celebrate His Resurrection in song. See you in worship!

Community happens in circles, not rows. There’s a small group for everyone, regardless of age.

March 11, 2018

Thank you to everyone for all the support and prayers this past fall semester and Christmas season; it was so encouraging knowing and feeling loved and just realizing how many continue to give in so many beautiful ways to help us support the mission of Jesus all across our campus here at Truman. On behalf of all who might never know your names, but will forever know His Name, thank you! Students have been back a couple weeks now from Christmas break and here are a few things that have been happening in that time: We initiated and partnered with

CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) and EQ (Life Church college ministry) – to host a panel discussion night. Had some really good questions asked and conversations with those who came. For us the panel was a success because – success is always about people; and we saw one come that night that one of our students has been sharing with thru the past semester and our family too. And he

participated and shared and listened, and later shared that he was thankful, and he had been given some new things to think about (from our sharing the gospel and why the scriptures are so relevant to our lives).

We hosted the new international students to a welcoming meal at the BSU. This is only possible because of our amazing chefs John and Margie Kues and their awesome servant hearted son, Justin! It allowed us to meet several students and also to help them know who we are and what our mission is.

We cleaned bathrooms!!! 28 of them in Ryle Hall on a late Saturday morning. From initiating and inviting CRU to join us, we served others with love in a simple yet tangible and practical way. We had a lot of really good feedback from the dorm staff and from many of the students. To be known by love

We organized with an alumni and another family and we took 5 students and a young alumni to Winter Jam in STL. None of them had ever been before to a Christian worship concert. It was memorable for them as they shared later what it was like to them.

We are partnering with CRU and EQ and FCA and possibly more

Students also recently attended Hallsville’s Disciple Now (D-Now) conference. We had a blast! We attended three sessions

where we focused on Romans 12:1-2 and what it means to be transformed by the Holy Spirit into living, breathing,

followers of Jesus Christ. We served Columbia's City of Refuge and prayed for the many people all over the world who

suffer in pain, oppression, and fear in their own countries as they only dream of what it would be like to live in a country

such as ours. We fellowshipped with one another through trampoline jumping, hide-and-seeking, and swimming. We

prayed for one another in small groups and confessed to each other on what we were struggling with. We laughed, we

worshiped, we loved. We truly grew this weekend as Christ followers and as a youth group. Thank you to every single

person who donated, prayed, or helped in preparation for this event. Believe me when I say the youth (and leaders) are

eternally grateful and blessed by our church family. Please be in prayer for our students and chaperones as we all take on

the challenge given to us at D-Now to read our Bibles daily so that we can grow closer to the God we serve and better

know His will for our lives.
