The Model B-Tandem Tension Packer is a tension-set retrievable
packer without slips.
The packer is small, reasonably priced and very effective for wells
where set-down weight is unavailable. It is used as an isolation
packer in multiple-zone, single string water flood installations. The
B-Tandem can be attained in sizes from 4-1/2 in. to 9-5/8 in., and is
rated to 5,000 psi from below at temperatures up to 275°F.
BENEFITS AND CHARACTERISTICS
? Compact, simple, economical packer for zone isolation
? Built-in unloader allowing fluid to bypass packing element system
? Large bore available for 7”
? Can be shearpinned in unjayed position, allowing the packer to be
set without tubing rotation
? Electroless nickel plated for corrosion resistence
APPLICATIONS
? Multiple-zone, single-string waterflood installations
? Wells where set-down weight is not available
? Run in tandem above any packer against which an upstrain can be
Pulled
OPERATION
Shear screws secure the setting mechanism in either the jayed or
unjayed position. If run in the jayed position, apply set-down weight
to part the shear screws. Then, rotate the tubing to the left to get 1/8
turn at the tool. If run in unjayed position, the shear screws can be
parted by either set-down weight or tension. With the mechanism in
the unjayed position, apply enough tension to maintain 6,000 to
12,000 lb. pack-off
Slack off on the tubing string to withdraw the applied tension and to
equalize pressure across the packer. Then, turn rightwards 1/8
rotation at the tool. The packer is now in the retrieving position for
removal from the well.
