ver the years, Mood Indigo has been known to bring the fans’ favourite bands in some of the most unique genres of English music to India and this year is going to be no different with the Livewire Nite, the International MusicMusic Concert at the main-stage of the festival set to be headlined by symphonic metal band, Epica, from the Netherlands. The music of the band which will be performing live on the 28th of December 2014 unites the char-acteristics of metal music like heavy drums and guitars with symphonic instruments and choirs. The band has its unique sstyle featuring female vocals and male growls, performed by Simone Simons(Lead Vocals) and Mark Jansen(Rhythm Guitar, Vocals) respectively. The other four members of the six-mem-bered band, Coen Janssen (Synthesizer, Piano), Ariën van Weesenbeek (Drums, Backing Vocals), Isaac Delahaye(Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals) and Rob van der Loo(Bass) compose music for the lyrics of the tracks written by Simons and Jansen. Apart from itsits own music, the band has also

composed background scores for a lot of Hollywood movies the most popular of them being, Pi-rates of The Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings. Most of the band’s famous albums which in-clude Cry for the Moon(2003), Requiem for the Indifferent (2012) and The Quantum Enig-ma(2014) consist of songs which largely deal with philosophical topics, including science, reli-gion, and world events. The band is also known for the visual and lively nature of its performances with all band members continu-ously engaging the crowd with their lively guitar solos and headbanging. What makes the concert most special in the social context is that much like the patriarchal Indian society, metal music has been a genre traditionally domi-nated by men with growling voices, it represents the irst time thatthat a female-fronted metal band will be playing in India. For Ishan, the head of the concerts team responsible for bringing Epica to India, the feeling is yet to sink in,” Epica, was one of our top choices from the start

“O

eeing the overwhelming success of the EDM Nite in the last edition of the festival, this year Mood Indigo is set to put one over itself with EDM Nite 2014 set to be be headlined by Dutch electronic dance music producer and in-ternational sensation DJ Sander Van Doorn. Electronic dance music, EDM as it is popularly knknown includes the usage of percussive elec-tronic music genres for dance-based enter-tainment environments. As its name suggests, it is the kind of music that will evoke the dancer in everybody. It has grown in populari-ty and gained immense fame in today’s youth all over the world. Being associated with parties makes it the perfect genre of music to be played on the irst day of Mood Indigo, 26th December which happens to be a Friday night.Known for his technical prowess and musical excellence, Sander Van Doorn is undoubtedly one of world’s leading producers/DJs. In a short span of time he has gained immense popularity by creating his own niche which is often referred to as the ‘SvD style’. Sander has been in the top 50 DJs of the world for the past 7 7 years with his highest ranking being a whop-ping No. 10!He started his career with Loaded’ that earned him immediate popularity and attention. With 2 albums and a production of many hit-singles

his reputation has kept growing through-out. He has done remixes for famous artists like Sia, Swedish House Maia, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, One Republic and Lady Gaga. He has also collaborated with the likes of Robbie Williams, Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, DVBBS. His most recent single, single, Gold Skies has been trending not only in India but throughout the world.Sander Van Doorn, on his earlier visits to India has headlined the Sunburn festival. This will be his 3rd visit to India and he will be performing at Mood Indigo before head-lining Sunburn once again. “I have always loved coming here. The people, their love for music and their enthusiasm to break into a dandance as soon as music is played would make any artist happy. It will be the irst time I play in a college festival in India and I’m looking forward to an energetic crowd that will get the best out of me” says Sander, visibly ecstatic about coming to India.Sanskar Dholi, the head of the concerts team responsible for bringing Sander Van Doorn said, “Seeing the humongous response we got last year, we were sure we had to go one step ahead. Living up to the expectations of the students looking up to the festival, and the extreme excitement of meeting such a

huge artist make the months of constant effort and sleepless nights seem totally worth it. We hope to propagate EDM further by adding on to its growing popularity.”

“S

due to their versatile range of music and wide appeal among the Indian metal fans. For us it was about bringing a new genre of music to India, thereby enabling music lovers across the country to savor each of their songs.“ The IndianIndian music industry too is thrilled with the announcement,

Subir Malik, member of the well-known band Parikrama Inc. said, “Symphonic metal is a veryininteresting genre of music and being a metal-head myself I am thrilled to hear the announcement.” This is also shot in the arm for metal music in India, a genre which has lost ground in recent years.

HORO"SCOPE"

It’s at the end of the month and I’m out of money (MI’s take: Again..you don’t need any..the entry is free)

I’m allergic to shades of purple, I’d prefer grey. (MI’s take: Grey matter suggests go Indigo)

Christmas blues (Add a tinge of red, and you’d be right inthe mood)

My fortune teller advised me against it (MI’s take: Have a lookat the extremely pro horoscope above..that is all that matters)

I have to conduct experiments on how much wood would awoodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood (Okay, then)

I need to take my pet goldfish to the shrink (Ummm… that’sactually a valid reason.)

I have to evolve my Charmander! (MI response: But missingMI for that is Onix-eptable. No pun Nintendo-ed.)

I have to prepare for the zombie apocalypse (Come to Hogathon, grab some food. It’s gonna go down in a food fight!)

BCOZ OMG D WORLD IS ENDNG IN DEC!!! (That was 2012 you idiot.)

I have to watch reruns of Comedy Nights with Kapil (MI response: How about EDM Nite with SvD instead?)

10 REASONS NOT TO ATTEND MOOD I

At Mood I, you will ind your true love. The jousts aare out with more than 180 events to compete in, grab every opportunity and have your shot at glory. However don’t exude a lot of pride when you are in a group as it may lead to ights.

You might hit the bull’s eye this time round! AAfter multiple attempts, this might just be your year. Keep trying and cupid may strike as you match your rhythm with somebody you met at the Interna-tional Music Festival.

Your secretive nature of keeping emotions underunder wraps gives way to happiness that you experienced at Mood I. People see through your rough exterior and know the softer ‘you’ as they notice you giggling during the HumorFest.

Your strong willed nature will help you in all of the toughccompetitions at Mood Indigo. Your in-tensity is your biggest asset. Beware of your own sting as it may hurt others and stop them participating again.

Your patience might be tested bythe queues at timesbut you need to channelize yyour anger and compete to win! As far as the love life goes, stay ‘horny’, stay foolish!

You are generally introvert and quiet. ButBut now you’re in for a change. This De-cember you’ll crash a DJ party (or two), scream your throats out and let out the coy hiding in you. So, it’s time to get mood high and lose your virgo-nity!

You will experience double the happiness andand enjoy to the fullest. Couple passes to Pronites seem likely. Don’t get too greedy and look for somebody else, re-member: two is a company, three is a crowd :P!

Judging by the highsthat you will witnessduringduring MI, you will need some rest to instil some balance in life. Beware of your igure as you may gain weight knowing the delicacies of food brands coming to MI leading to imbalance.

Since your b’day and Mood I lie in the same period you are going tto be very lucky. Free passes as your b’day gift has a huge scope. Horn up for the good times and get ready for the biggest surprise of the year!
