Presidents Letter

Vice Presidents Letter

Greetings Barons! Football season is now officially over and the groundhog made his fake weather prediction a few weeks ago, so that can mean only one thing: spring is near. Don’t let the dreary weather stop you from firing up those brew kettles.

This time of year is very busy and has so many great events that we do as a club. Best of luck to everyone that has participated in the Midwinter Homebrew Competition. The Tastes of Hales Corners at the Hales Corners library March 2 and the Women’s Soccer Club on March 11 are almost here; both have tickets still available. The Dairy State Cheese and Beer Festival is not that far off either. This is such an exciting time to be a member of this club.

Thank you again to all the volunteers who make these great events happen. Also, please feel free to stop by the next board meeting March 1 at the Landmark 1850 (5905 S Howell Ave, Milwaukee). The meeting starts at 7:00, hope to see you there.

Slainte,

Jason

Hello Barons!

I wanted to first take a moment to say thanks to Dave Campbell for another great gadget night. Dave you are a trooper, hanging in there with us while Murphy’s Law showed up with just about every piece of technology we had to support the meeting. I would also like to thank Josh Strupp for running out and buying a projector to save the meeting night. If the commitment you two had that night didn’t show what it means to be com-mitted to the Barons, I don’t know what would. Thank you.

Also thank you to anyone who donated beer for Fond Du Lac Brew Fest and Food & Froth, these fests are a great deal of fun, plus our presence at these events act as a marketing campaign and continue to spread the word about the club. If you would like to get involved in these events please reach out to the officers, we are always looking for more volunteers.

This month we welcome Sara Brauer (sales manager) and Sam Green (lead brewer) of Octopi / 3rd Sign Brewery. Octopi opened in late 2015 as a mid-sized contract brewery focusing on the craft market. They also run 3rd Sign to showcase the capabilities of Octopi. Please welcome Sara and Sam as they discuss a few of their offerings and answer any questions you have about their operations. For more information about Octo-pi & 3rd Sign visit www.octopibrewing.com

In March we will be hosting a Yeast Parallel in collaboration with Good City Brewing. We will be using all of the taps on the jockey boxes for this meeting, please be mindful of this if you plan on bringing anything to share.

Cheers,Max LiptackVice President

Treasurer’s Report

January’s meeting had 15 new members pay up for memberships. Please help out new members with questions that they may have. We were all new members at one time.

The General account has a balance of $4784.97 in the general account. our PayPal account has $4101.18 some of which is earmarked for other accounts. That figure will be transferring to the sub accounts as the Midwinter Competition winds down.

Get in touch with Josh Strupp for the upcoming bus tour details. Looking forward to seeing if that will be an annual event.

Renewing memberships continue to come in using PayPal. Remember Gold memberships get you through the line quickly and on to more tasting time for the night. It is also a great deal for the year.

See you at the February meeting!

Cheers,Mike Borchert

Congratulations Participants and winners !Speaking from experience this competition is a real challenge, thanks for representing the beer barons in this prestigious event.

In 2016, Milwaukee had an explosion of newly opened breweries and tap rooms. We plan to make a day out of visiting a few of them. Reserve your spot with us as we travel our fair city on Saturday, February 25th checking out many of the newly opened breweries. The reservation is for the bus transport only – a safe and fun way to travel between destinations. Participants will be paying for their own beer samples and food as we travel from place to place. This trip is for club members, with each member allowed to bring guests. We need to have 30 people signed up in order to make this trip feasible. If we do not get enough support, we will hap-pily refund any reservations. Here are some details:We leaving the the Loomis Rd. Park & Ride at 11:30am and heading for Black Husky. After that we hope to hit: * Good City * Like Minds * Enlightened * Mobcraft * Urban Harvest * City Lights * 3rd Space (if time permits)We will return to the Park & Ride by 5:30pm.Please visit our online shop to buy your tickets.
