Due to its large concert hall and two smaller ones it is also an amazing concert center. CASE The Bolshoi Hall, which is the largest of the concert halls, is one of the best and most appraised halls in the world. This cannot only be accredited to its perfect acoustics, but also to the great decorative details within the concert hall. The hall, which was primarily designed for symphonic music, opened its doors to the public in 1901. Comprising of 1737 seats the concert hall can also fit both choir and organ concerts perfectly, and it hosts respected and distinguished competitions annually. Acoustic planner Henrik Möller says that the res- toration of the Bloshoi Hall was a real challenge. Möller explains why: “we were told that the acous- tics after the restoration had to match those of what they were before the restoration. All of the surfaces – the walls and the ceiling – as well as the seating had to be renewed so we weren’t dealing with a small scale renovation”. “We decided to measure all the surfaces in the hall, such as the sound absorption of the seats, and then search for new surface materials and seats that would match the acoustical properties of the original surfaces. According to the response from critics and the public, we succeeded in our mis- sion: the mission which, from the start, seemed quite impossible. The Bolshoi Hall, which is the largest of the concert halls, is one of the best and most appraised halls in the world.

Acoustic planner Henrik Möller says that the res-toration of the Bloshoi Hall was a real challenge. Möller explains why: “we were told that the acous-tics after the restoration had to match those of what they were before the restoration.
