Message from the desk of the Pastor…..

Dear parish family,

The feast we celebrate today, known as Corpus Christi or the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, was established by Pope Urban IV in the year 1264. He did so in response to a reported Eucharistic miracle in the Italian village of Orvieto.

Jesus’ presence in body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist is a promise that he will be with us until the end of days. He wishes to remain with us and in us, helping us to seek him, to see him and serve him by how we love, honor, serve and forgive one another.

St. John Paul II said “The Holy Eucharist contains the entire spiritual treasure of the Church, Christ himself.” He went on to encourage every Catholic to “rekindle this Eucharistic amazement.”

We remember with gratitude the promise he made to be with his friends and followers as their food and nourishment in their pilgrimage through life. All of us are people on a journey facing the trials and sufferings of everyday happenings. What better companion can we have for support than the presence of Jesus?

Although we have not yet reached our final destination, travelling in his company is a powerful assurance that we are on the right road. He is food for our souls and the spiritual help we need to make us break off the chains that bind us to this earth. Holy Communion is the remedy for our daily faults and not the reward for sanctity attained. It is not because we are holy that we receive Jesus but because we wish to change and to become like him.

One of the fruits of our weekly gathering should be a great increase of charity among the assembled faithful. Union with Christ in the Eucharist means drawing closer to our brothers and sisters. There should be no dissention, strife or bitterness among those gathered around the table of the Lord.

To have time for God and to give ourselves to him is an important expression of our faith.

May God bless you.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Fr. Joseph

St. Mary Seminary Collection

On the Feast of Corpus Christi (Vigil Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6) the total offertory in every parish of the archdiocese is dedicated to the support of those studying for the priesthood. For 2021-22, over a million dollars is needed from this collection to support our seminarians studying for the priesthood. To achieve this goal, Cardinal DiNardo requests that you double the amount of your regular church support for the weekend of June 5-6. If we all come together in this effort, the needed subsidy will be met by this collection. In gratitude for the incomparable gift of the Holy Eucharist which is inseparably joined to the priest-hood, please do your part to help the archdiocese provide priests for the sake of your future by praying daily for vocations and supporting this collection.

All married couples are invited to live the Marriage Encounter experience. This is a live conference – typically held on a weekend – where three mentor couples and a priest provide tools, use examples, and help couples work through common themes we can all relate to. The experience helps participants to listen, share, and connect more deeply. Nine in ten couples who attend a Marriage Encounter recog-nize a long-lasting positive effect on their lives. For details, calendar, and registra-tion, please visit the Marriage Enrichment section at www.archgh.org/familylife

Daily Novena to St. Joseph: O Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O Saint Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, so that having experienced here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fa-thers. O Saint Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not ap-proach while He reposes near your heart. Hold Him close in my name and kiss His fine head from me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.

Thank you for your generous donations. God bless!

A Spiritual Bouquet with St. Joseph, Patron of Fathers

A Spiritual Bouquet to St. Joseph: June 1 to June 30, 2021 Father’s Day provides a beautiful opportunity to pray for and honor fathers. However, it can also be a difficult holiday for some, such as those who have lost their own father, those who have lost a child, and those who are struggling to have a child. This activity seeks to lift up the many intentions brought to our hearts by the observance of Father’s Day, entrusting them to the intercession of St. Joseph, Patron of Fathers. It also provides a

way to honor St. Joseph for his own example of embracing the call to fatherhood amid difficult circumstances. Despite all obstacles, he was faithful, welcoming the life of the Christ Child and offering care and protection to both Mary and Jesus. Don’t forget to bring your pictures of your special loved ones [living / deceased fa-ther’s, child who has passed away or special family pictures].

Your special intentions.

A flower or flowers.

If you would like to purchase flowers for a weekend during the month of June, for in front of St. Joseph or the Blessed Mother, please contact the Church Office or let Anne Starr know.

We seek the intercession of St. Joseph for all our intentions we bring to him and for all fathers—especially those who are reluctant to offer loving, life-affirming support to the mothers of their unborn children.

We pray to seek the intercession of Our Blessed Mother for all the intentions of our hearts related to the observance of Mother’s, as well as to thank her for her motherly love for us.

Baby Bottle Boomerang

Bottles for the Pregnancy Help Center of Brazoria County are due back by Father’s Day, June 20th. Please drop them off at the Church Office. Thank you for your participation.

Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Prayer in the Time of the

Coronavirus

Comfort us, O Lord, for we are like your disciples on the storm tossed seas, unsettled by what lies ahead. We turn to You, our Healer and Guide, To still our hearts in our time of need and hear our pray-er: Heal those who are sick with the coronavirus and protect the elderly and most vulnerable. Give strength to all who tend to our health and wisdom to researchers who work toward a cure. Open our eyes and hearts, as you did during Hurricane Harvey, that we may look beyond our immediate needs to care for others who need help. Through the Holy Spirit, guide our leaders to make wise decisions for the welfare of all the people they serve. Grant eternal rest to those who have died from the virus. May Mary, Our Mother, who has heard our pleas in the storms of our lives, Intercede to her Son, that we may find healing and a prompt end to this illness. Mary, Star of the Sea, pray for us.

Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, heal us.
