A Blessed Father’s Day to all the men of our
parishes!
Last Saturday, June 8, was a glorious day for our
community. We not only had two transitional dea-
cons ordained at Mary, Mother of Hope; we also
had the graduation of St. Vitus School. Our con-
gratulations to our newly ordained and to all of the graduates, both
from high school and college! We are very proud of all of you and
pray God will
continue to
lead and
guide you in
the pursuit of
His vocation
for you. May the Lord protect you and all of us from
the evil one.
It is hard to believe we are halfway through the
month of June already! July will be here before you
know it and we will be Holy Spirit Parish! To cele-
brate our oneness in Christ and as one family in Him,
we hope to gather once again at New Castle
High School auditorium for all the Masses on the weekend of July 13 and 14. The Mass times will
be the same as they were in October when we celebrated a unity Mass at the beginning of our time to-
gether. Saturday, July 13, Mass will be at 4 pm and 6 pm and on Sunday, July 14, Mass will be at 7 am, 9 am
and 11 am.
Bishop Zubik will be here for the 11 o’clock Mass and will install the new pastoral team for the
new parish of Holy Spirit.
I hope and pray that many of you will find it in your hearts to help your neighbors who may need a ride to
come with you to Mass so that as many people as possible can indeed participate in this very special celebra-
tion of our oneness as a parish. If on this particular weekend, we are all more considerate of one another and
try to help one another attend, that would be a beautiful gift to God and certainly to one another. If you can
think of ways that you could help or volunteer, please do so. The last time we gathered, many people were
thrilled with the beautiful music and being together with people from all around the region. Let’s make this
a wonderful celebration of our community and our faith.
We still have a long way to go and many difficult decisions to make, but we are also blessed with great pro-
gress and much positivity. Good things are happening! May the Holy Spirit open our eyes to the wonders of
God’s love and His working among us. God has not abandoned us during these challenging times, in fact, He
is more present than ever. Let’s place our trust in the Lord, set aside all anxiety and
fear, and celebrate our faith in him and the goodness that truly is in each person who
gathers in his name. Let us as Catholics show the wider community who we
really are. We are people of love and faith, unity, peace and hope!

Christ the King Easter Bread Income: On behalf of Fr. Mac and myself, we would like to thank all those who
worked so hard on the Easter Bread project. To all who donated ingre-
dients, supplies, time and talent, and especially, Marie Benedict for
once again leading the charge in coordinating the entire project. The
Easter Bread group recently gathered after a Thursday morning Mass
and presented Deacon John with a check for the net proceeds totaling
$25,900.00—Now that is a lot of Dough!!!!! Each year these funds are
raised for our Parish Share assessment. Once again, thanks to your
dedication and hard work, we were able to pay Christ the King’s Parish
Share Goal in full, and exceed it. May God continue to bless you and
keep you in His care.

New Parish Offertory Envelopes: Watch your mail toward the end this week for your new parish
offertory envelopes. The packets will contain offertory envelopes
for the months of July and August. In the past some envelopes
were mailed on a monthly basis, going forward envelopes will be

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has set Religious Freedom
week for June 22 – 29, 2019. The theme for this week is Strength in Hope. It
is taken from the Second Vatican Council’s Decree on the Apostolate of the
Laity: “Among the trials of this life they find strength in hope, convinced that
‘the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glo-
ry to come that will be revealed in us’ (Rom. 8:18)” (Apostolicam actuosi-
tatem, 4).
As American Catholics, what would we do without religious freedom? We
do know one thing -- we wouldn’t be able to evangelize. How blest we are
that we can sit in a coffee shop anywhere in our country and talk about Jesus
without being jailed or murdered. We are blest that we are not forced to make
life choices that do not coincide with Catholic moral teaching. This is not the
case for every Christian in other countries, especially our sisters and brothers
in Nigeria and China.
Our religious liberty enables us to contribute to the common good of all Americans and those beyond our
borders. We evangelize when we ensure the civil rights of all, provide food for the hungry, give sound educa-
tion to children and adults, and provide adequate health care. By doing these good works, we are evangelizing
people all over the world. We are giving hope to those without a future. In this week for religious freedom, we
should take the time for prayer, to study, to catechize, and do some public action that would remind others of
God’s goodness being allowed to transform lives. We are strong American Catholics with the ability to hope
because we live in a strong nation that endows the gift of religious freedom. Don’t waste this gift – go out and
evangelize. Be Christ for others.

Faith of Our Fathers
Frederick Faber (1814-1863) grew up in a vicarage and
seemed destined for priesthood in the Anglican Church.
Following his education at Oxford, he took Holy Orders
as a priest in the Church of England. In 1843, his desti-
ny seemed to be sealed, but in that same year, he con-
verted to Catholicism. In 1849, he moved to London
and established the “Oratorians”, also known as priests
of the Congregation of St. Philip of Neri, along with
John Henry Newman, another priest and hymn writer
also converted to Catholicism and followed Faber’s
path from Canterbury to Rome.
Faber composed many hymns, but “Faith of our
Fathers” was by far the most popular. The original
hymn lyrics began, Faith of our Fathers, Mary’s pray-
ers. Being that the Anglican Church was (and still is)
the Church of England, Faber adjusted his lyrics so that
they would be acceptable to Protestant churches as well
as Catholic churches. So at that time the lyrics changed
to “Faith of our Fathers, good men’s prayers, shall win
our country all to thee.” Later, the text was set to the
tune St. Catherine, which was very common in the
United States. It has gone through many adaptations and
lyrics. The hymn was written to honor Catholics martyred at the time of the establishment of the Church of
England by King Henry VIII, but it has become commonplace to use it on Father’s Day.

ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA
"St. Anthony, St. Anthony, come around! Something's lost that must be found!" Did you learn this rhyme in childhood? St. Anthony of Padua is more than the patron saint for lost items. By his life, he shows a special interest in lost souls. St. Anthony was born to noble parents, but he preferred a simple life of faith to the riches of his childhood. He joined the Franciscan order in 1220. He quickly became known for his eloquence in preaching. He had a way of reaching all sorts, from nobles to clergy to those who had fallen away from the Catholic faith. In addi-tion to preaching, St. Anthony organized supplies for the poor and negotiated release for prisoners of war between Italian city-states. However you or your loved ones feel lost this week, pray for St. Anthony's intercession!

Fundraiser Dates
FESTIVAL GRAND RAFFLE Tickets are on sale after Masses in all of our churches. Tickets cost $50.00 each, and there are 12 chances to win! $24,000.00 in total prizes will be awarded! Winners will be based on the 3-digit PA Evening Lottery Number each of the four nights of the festival. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Please bring cash or a check made out to St. Vitus parish to purchase your ticket.
