From Fr. Jossy’s Desk:
MOST HOLY TRINITY Dear brothers and sisters it is the feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Now please remember we are crea-
tures speaking about the mystery of our Creator. We are simply scratching at the mystery with human lan-
guage. Wherever we live, our lives are full of beauty and mystery! Why? Because we are made in the image
and likeness of our God. But yet, we are always questioning “Why?” and “How can this be?” There is one
mystery in particular that is beyond all the rest. And that is the mystery we celebrate in today’s feast the mys-
tery of the Most Holy Trinity - three Persons in one God.
An example: we look at a rose, we look at its beauty - would we ever ask a rose “Why?” or “How?”
Just as a rose does not have a “Why,” neither does the Holy Trinity have an answer to our “Why?” or our
“How can this be?” The Holy Trinity simply exists as the foundation of all that is. When Moses asked what
God's name was, God responded, “I Am Who I Am!” And so we simply accept the mystery, and we thank God
for being God, and we find in this reality, he is the only real reason for lasting joy and hope!
Let us take a fresh look at the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, remembering that we are simply
creatures speaking about our creator. As Three Persons, Their work is that of Creator, Redeemer and Sancti-
fier. Althou- gh we attribute creation of all that is to God the Father, both the Eternal Word and the Holy Spirit
were always sharing in that stupendous event of creation. And all three Persons enjoyed it! In today’s first
reading from the Book of Proverbs we learn that God danced and played with delight at the results of the work
of creation. It is the very nature of God to rejoice and to love the creatures that sprang forth. All three Persons
in the One God have never stopped loving us, and delighting in who we are.
The second reading from St. Paul’s letter to the Romans we are assured, we are convinced that our
faith in our Lord Jesus Christ puts us in right relationship with God. That brings us a reason to hope through
patience in our afflictions. For patience leads to endurance, and endurance leads to fulfillment. "Hope does not
disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our human hearts through the Holy Spirit that
has been given to us." In the Gospel, Jesus reveals to His apostles and to us, the very intimate relationship that
He holds with both His Father and the Holy Spirit, reveling the God is a Trinity of Persons three in one. Jesus
urges His disciples to stop relying solely on His physical presence and to be prepared for their astounding new
role of life lived “in the Holy Spirit” that will expand their minds and their hearts to know “all truth.” The
Holy Trinity is not some distant truth or dry dogma but a living reality for you and I, we are the dwelling place
of God. Remember our Lord told us that he would come with Father and make their dwelling place in us.
As Catholics each Trinity Sunday, we gather and we only scratch the surface of this profound mystery
of our faith. It is enough for us to believe in and to cling to the great gifts of peace, unity, and love which is
our inheritance now, in the life of heaven. In gratitude and faith, let us deliberately begin and end every prayer
with ever greater faith and reverence: “In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy
Spirit. Amen.”

Fr. Vattothu Jossy, CMI
