Hello Everyone and a Happy New Year, I hope you are all refreshed from the holidays and ready to begin another busy Probus year. Again a reminder to put in your nominations for positions on the Committee, especially that of Treasurer, before the end of our meeting in February as we have our Annual General Meeting in March. All present office bearers will then stand down ready for our newly elected committee. Annual fees will again be due AFTER the March meeting when notification will be given as to the amount set for the coming year. These should then be paid before the meeting in April 2018. I’m looking forward to the coming year and enjoying at least some of the activities our many co-ordinators have in store for us and getting to know more of you. See you at the meeting. FROM OUR ROVING REPORTERS:

WEDDING CAKE ROCK WALK – ROYAL NATIONAL PARK – MONDAY,

27TH NOVEMBER

The Macarthur Singers December Concert at Carrington Recreation Hall was attended by about twenty of our members. Joyce had reserved our regular table at the Rock Salt Café for a pre-concert lunch, drink and chat. Titled a “Cool Yule”, the Macarthur Singers performed a selection of nineteen favourite Christmas hits, concluding with a jolly sing-along rendition of Snoopy’s Christmas. Lively Musical Director Jillian Bridge’s introduction to each programme item always reveals some interesting information and items of trivia regarding the song’s origin. The approximately fifty talented local members of the Macarthur Singers Choir, which includes “our” Kathy Smith (alto) and Bob Ferguson (bass), never fails to provide an entertaining concert often laced with humour and is occasionally quite moving. The four soloists (Korinne Dodd, Judy Reid, Madeleine Lidbetter and Jill Larsen) were, I thought, quite outstanding, in particular Judy’s soulful version of “Hallelujah” and Jill’s humorous rendition of “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”. Another fantastic lunch and afternoon’s entertainment at Carrington with Probus Friends arranged by Joyce. SO, if you haven’t experienced a Macarthur Singers Concert then do yourself a favour and get along to the next one that Joyce organizes for our members … I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

“COOL YULE” - MACARTHUR SINGERS - SUNDAY, 10TH DECEMBER

(Thank you to our Roving Reporters for your contributions. Linda)

Under Margaret’s leadership, a group of happy walkers headed to The Royal National Park. After an enjoyable walk and some stunning scenery, we reached our destination and were delighted with the view of the Wedding Cake Rock, which was well worth the trip. Then back to Bundeena in time for an enjoyable lunch.

CRUISING – 2018:

We are looking for members who would like to join with other members and friends for a holiday cruise. Now that the Christmas and Holiday Season has come to an end, I will be researching our options and availability for a short and/or long cruise. You are welcome to place your name on the list for both. Suggestions for possible destinations are: 1. 4-10 day cruise – Pacific Islands, Morton Bay, Tasmania, Adelaide etc. 2. Over 10 day cruise – Pacific Islands, Around Australia, NZ, Singapore etc. Expression of Interest Forms will again be available this General Meeting. Anna

DAY TRIPS AND HOLIDAY PROGRAMME – 2018: Our Probus Year begins with my having to make an alteration to our Day Trip Program. Unfortunately, our first trip for the year had to be reorganized as the cruise originally booked is no longer operating. I was able to secure a booking on the Hawkesbury Paddlewheeler at Windsor so, with a few minor adjustments, our “day out” will still be going ahead, however I will not be joining you on that day as I won’t be in the country.

PROBUS TRIPS FOR 2018/9: - Peter O’Loughlin CRUISING FOR 2018/9: - Anna Degnan

The rest of the year is going as planned (at this stage) with our first holiday trip in March, then in September we venture into Queensland and the Sunshine Coast on a 9 day excursion. Deposits for this trip are due in March. I have had discussions with Keith (Travelon Coaches) about a trip to Mildura and Broken Hill for next year (2019). Following his recommendations, this will be a 12 day tour, 3 nights in Mildura and 4 nights in Broken Hill. However, I believe the highlight will be the night we spend at Mungo Lodge in the Willandra Lakes region. Accommodation here is varied with some being able to stay in the Mungo Lodges while others will be sleeping in the restored Shearers Quarters and priced accordingly. I hope to have the itinerary finalized by mid year. Peter O’

Please join us and take the opportunity of visiting interesting places and enjoying

each other’s company.
