The National Hereford Sale

Mile HigH NigHt • 2015 NatioNal Hereford Sale

Dear Hereford Breeders,

Welcome to the 109th National Western and the “Mile High Night” National Hereford Sale. The powerful showing of Herefords on the Hill and in the Yards has caught the attention of many cattlemen regardless of their breed loyalty.

Last year, the talk of Denver was the million dollar “Mile High Night National Hereford Sale” conducted on the stadium floor. It was a spectacle to behold. The cover of this year’s Denver Hereford sale catalog captures a view of last year’s record setting event.

The Mile High Night Sale offers a superior selection of genetics from the top Hereford operations in North America. The sale features a stout offering of bulls. A concerted effort has been set forth again this year to offer a set of bulls that can headline many programs in addition to having a genetically superior bull walk the pasture after an AI program. Bulls from past Denver sales have made their impact in the Hereford industry. If you are considering a top Hereford bull for your operation please take some time and review the bulls in this sale. They are a stellar set.

The female offering has traditionally been elite, offering some of the best genetics to be found in the Hereford business. Again, sale management has reached out to gather more outstanding females for the sale this year. The “Mile High Night” affair offers females from the top operations across the country. This sale will also feature pick of the herd, outstanding pregnancies, a superior selection of embryos and great flushes with breed leading genetics.

This year the sale will be conducted after the Yard Show is completed on Friday afternoon. Sale management has the privilege of adding lots to the sale selected from all the Hereford entries that show or display in Denver. Combine this with the outstanding consignments in this sale catalog and the “Mile High Night” promises to be an event for all serious Hereford breeders.

We want to thank Churchill Cattle Co., Iron Lake Ranch and Stuber Ranch for donating the foundation heifer — Lot 1 this year to the sale. This power female has the genetics to be a leading donor for many Hereford operations. She is one cool female.

I want to personally thank National Cattle Services, Eddie and Ruth Sims and the late Stanley Stout for making this sale into a premier event in Denver. Their hard work and determination took a mediocre sale in 2003 to a million dollar sale in 2014. The American Hereford Association takes over the reins of the sale management for the 2015 Mile High Night National Hereford sale and we have a great foundation to work from due to National Cattle Services. Thanks Eddie, Ruth and Stanley.

By all means many thanks go to the consignors to the 2015 Mile High Sale. They are bringing the good ones to the 2015 National Western in Denver. We would like to invite Hereford breeders from across North America to join us for this great Hereford evening. The sale starts at 6 p.m. (MST) with plenty seats on the Stadium Floor. We look forward to seeing you in Denver. If you can’t make it to Denver, the sale will be broadcast on LiveAuctions.tv. Feel free to contact us if we can answer any questions or provide additional information.

Sincerely,American Hereford AssociationJoe Rickabaugh

• Foundation Lady has been the star of the calf crop right from the start. For the Churchill, Stuber and Iron Lake programs she represents the ultimate in Hereford female production. She was bred and designed to be the best from a breed elite dam and a cow family that has produced Denver champions, herd sires and sale toppers. She has the ability to help ratchet our breed higher. She truly is a Foundation Lady!

PICK OF ANY FEMALE IN THE RAUSCH HERD• This has been a feature lot in the National Hereford Sale for several years. When you look at the list of buyers

who have taken advantage of this opportunity, it is pretty impressive.• The buyer has access to all herd records, including HerdMaster records. The buyer may select from well over

1,200 polled and horned females. This includes all of the Rausch donors. 639 cows have qualified for the Dam of Distinction list since 1980. There were 34 new qualifiers this year.

• It is impressive to see all the cows, calves and sires in their natural breeding pastures. A full list of females will be provided prior to selection. Records can be sorted on any trait in the largest in-herd database in the breed.

• Assistance is available in making the pick of the herd.• For more pictures and information, go to www.RauschHerefords.com

LOT 4 — PERKS 0003 EASY MONEY 4003 LOT 5 — PERKS 0003 ROMEO 4011

CHOICE• Selling choice in two stout full brothers.• These two bulls are part of one of the most exciting flushes conducted at Perks Ranch, as there are three more full brothers and one sister. All will be

available for your viewing in Denver as the bulls will be part of our pen in the Yards and the heifer will be on the Hill. The heifer has already sold in our Fall Celebration Sale to CATO Cattle Co. for $15,000. We feel you will agree that it’s hard to make cattle any stouter than these!

• Their sire, Currency, is the bull we chose to add the Sooner line in our herd as we love their look and udder quality. Their dam, Ramona, is one of the top, young, powerful Bailout daughters in the breed. While these two bulls bring different things to the table, they are also the type that you can build a program around with their balance in numbers, the pedigree behind them and the performance they possess. Easy Money is moderate, huge hipped and big topped with a lot of bone, and has already been named the 2014 Illinois State Fair Reserve Champion Horned Bull in August at 7 months old. Romeo is the late bloomer and keeps getting better every day. He has a little more gas and extension, but still possesses that overall stoutness in a smooth package. These bulls will be entered both ways and a last minute decision will be made if they show “On the Hill” or “In the Yards.”

• Be sure to find these bulls in Denver… they will be worth your walk! We look forward to working with new partners on promoting the future of these exciting young bulls.

• Selling ½ interest, ½ possession. Possession may be updated sale night. Contact Tom or Tammy for semen package inquiries.

• A fifth generation NJW “Signature Ladysport” with the genetics, the conformation and the style to be elite in the pasture and the showring! Her dam, 66X, was the high selling heifer in our 2010 production sale to Pablo Martin Y Herrera. Grandam, 78P, was the high selling cow that same year and is the dam of the 2010 JNHE Grand Champion Female. Great-grandam, 120, was a high seller in our 2006 sale, 2002 National Champion Cow and dam of herd sires Traildust 161L and Trailboss 47N. The start of this beautiful, profitable cow family was Ladysport 131A, one of the wisest investments we every made! On the top side, 202A is backed by the tremendous P606 son, Mr Maternal 156T, who will have a strong influence in this herd.

• We are retaining the right to two future flushes at our expense. 202A will sell bred to KCF Bennett Encore Z311 ET.• Owned with Pablo Herrera

• This mating offers performance for the ages. Catapult blends muscle structure, power and maternal strengths with a performance set of data that puts him in the top 1% of the breed for WW, YW, and CHB$ Index while maintaining a low birth weight that is in the top 2%. In the 2014 Mile High Night a Catapult son sold for $75,000. Combine this with the added strengths of U201, who herself is in the top 1% of the breed for nine of the breed’s measurable traits. She is the mother of Knoll Crest herd sire, X51, who is the number three sire in the breed for CHB$ Index. She has been a solid producer for both Iron Lake Ranch and Knoll Crest Farms. The progeny from this mating will offer many traits that the Hereford breed needs and what cattlemen of all walks desire: a huge spread from birth weight to yearling weight and big carcass numbers that put you at the top of the breed for CHB$ Index, all in an eye appealing, structurally correct package with plenty of muscle.

• This mating is sure to be a Home Run. Sired by the current Denver Supreme Champion Hereford and record setting C Miles McKee 2103 ET, who recently sired five heifer calves that sold in the Colyer Herefords Fall Female Sale for an average of $35,800. His flawless eye appeal and structural correctness are what the foundation of the Iron Lake program is built on. The dam of these embryos is the Holden herd bull producer HH Miss Advance 6155S, who was the high selling female in the 2013 Holden Herefords Production Sale at $95,000. She is a full sister to the ever-popular herd bull 8050U and in her own right has produced 11 bulls that have sold in the Holden sale for an average of over $32,000. Her natural heifer calf in 2013 sold in the Holden Fall Female Sale and commanded a price of $20,000. She is a big, powerful female that is very maternal and has a perfect udder. This combination of two of the Hereford breed’s greats will produce cattle that will take you to the next level.

• Quite possibly one of the most explosive bull calves we’ve ever raised. CH Mad Man 409 has been a standout since birth. Being a natural calf raised by his own mother, he is an outstanding individual. His sire has done great things on our ranch and has has been the most consistent sire we have ever used. The mother is a very deep-bodied cow with a very good profile and a good udder. CH Mad Man 409 is only her second calf, so we anticipate great things from this young cow. Mad Man has legendary sires stacked throughout his pedigree and the dams are the some of the most influential cows in the Hereford breed. Mad Man’s actual 205-day WW was 865 lb. Being raised by his own mother, we feel this is outstanding.

• Full Throttle is without question the most popular individual that the Hoffman Ranch has ever been involved in. People of all different avenues in the breed have either used him or tried to use him. Many consider him to be a breed changer but rest assured, he is no accident! His dam has been as highly recognized as any Hereford female in recent times. His full and half-sisters have been dominant in the showring, however, even with their victories their strong suit has been their sheer capacity, brood cow build and extra attractiveness. Full Throttle has been used heavier than any other yearling bull in Hoffman Ranch history.

• Selling 1/3 interest and no possession until spring 2016. Buyer will receive 1/3 of semen sales that will sell immediately after Full Throttle and throughout his entirety.

• Here is an opportunity to buy sexed heifer, full sib embryos to one of the most prolific cows in the breed. Sweet Red Wine’s first set of calves took the 2013 JNHE by storm when Trent Ray’s About Time female won the September division and her half-sister by Outcross was Reserve behind her. The next day, Trent’s heifer was named Reserve Grand Champion. Those two heifers sold for $67,000 and $20,000 respectively. Trent Ray’s Strawberry Wine female was named Reserve Grand Female last year in Denver and her full brother, H/TRS/CHEZ Full Throttle, was named Reserve Champion Spring Polled Calf Champion. Look for him this year in Denver! This past summer, Cassidy Hanson’s Chardonnay heifer took the JNHE by storm and was named Grand Champion Horned Female. You are buying consistent, producing genetics that are productive and have eye appeal for special occasions. Her progeny have commanded over $400,000 in sales! • An exciting opportunity to pick the heifer calves out of this breed leading mating. The genetic combination of the great 40U donor and the elite performance sire Z80 offers endless possibilities. 40U is one of the best cows that we have ever worked with. She is big bodied, stout hipped yet elegant and feminine with a beautiful udder. Her Worldwide son was the highlight of our 2012 bull sale, going to Spencer Herefords in Nebraska for $35,000. 40U ranks in the top 3% of the breed for MARB, top 7% for SC, top 5% for BMI$, top 4% for BII$ and top 12% for CHB$. When you combine the flawless phenotype and the elite genetic predictions of this mating, the opportunity to get the first pick out of six outstanding fall heifer calves is truly a futuristic opportunity. Future breed leading females are represented in this pick of October heifers.

• Pick must be made by May 1, 2015.

• This exciting mating offers proven and predictable genetics that will only increase in value over time. 37X is an impressive female that offers genetic predictions that are in rare air company. She has a birth ratio of 84 on her first two calves with one calf at 120 weaning and 114 yearling. 37X ranks in the top 5% of the breed for both WW and YW EPDs, top 1% for MCE, top 4% for M&G, top 7% for REA and top 8% for CHB$. She is the dam of the top selling bull in our 2014 bull sale, Boyd Legacy 3001, which sold for $55,000 to Accelerated Genetics and partners. We love the 755T daughters. This mating is truly exciting. We have full siblings on the ground and they are excellent.

23BULL

• Although he’s made a big impact on the breed already, I still don’t think we’ve realized how important a roll he could play in the future of the Hereford industry yet as some of the great herd sires have in the past. Sensation has blown me away with what he’s done for us in our little cow herd and we’ve used some good ones. From producing herd bulls to top range bulls to show heifers to incredible heifers in production, they are hard to fault. And the most impressive thing about them is, they never stop getting better. Sure Shot is cut from the same cloth. He may even be a thicker, deeper version of Sensation himself and arguably, he may be one of his very best sons. His dam is, no doubt, the very best cow that ever walked on our ranch. She is a “never miss” cow. Come by our stalls in Denver and let us show you this phenomenal young herd sire.

• 4108 was on her way to being a sale feature in our production sale, but being just a June, we decided to give her a little more time and we are glad we did. This female is big time, she will speak for herself! She is everything we like to see in a complete heifer package. She has lots of muscle, rib shape and depth, she is big boned and sound footed. She combines all of this with a pretty front end and a stunning look about her. Her dam, “Flirtatious”, needs no introduction. She has made her mark in the showring and in the donor pen. She puts her mark on every calf that hits the ground and 4108 is no exception. Her sire, 88X, is leading the industry and is making his mark as well. There is no guesswork here. We are offering a very special one and she is just a June. You will see lots to come from this young female. Without a doubt, she will take you to the backdrop and then go home to make a first-class donor.

• Take note of this fancy, February Mr Hereford daughter that has a huge future ahead of her! Mr Hereford genetics are hard to come by since the $150,000 bull is now deceased. If her pedigree isn’t enough to make you raise your hand, wait until you lay eyes on her! She is about as pretty as they come with plenty of rib, bone and extension through her front end. Roxy Rose comes from a very hard working first calf heifer that we think will have a big impact on our herd in the coming years. Her dam had an incredible show career herself, winning the 2012 and 2013 North Dakota State Fair Reserve Champion Female, Kidder County Jackpot Reserve Supreme and a class winner at the Minnesota Beef Expo. Roxy Rose will follow in her momma’s footsteps. Put a show halter on her and you will have a lot of fun come nest summer! Stop by our pen and take a look for yourself.

BRED HEIFER PICK• Here is your opportunity to pick one right out of our show string. These two females are a result of the very best two heifers that came out of our first embryo born calf crop. They have both

been well received at every show they have gone to and the outcome as to which one will do better has always been up for discussion. The good thing about showing here in Denver is they each get to show in their respective classes with one being polled and the other horned. We are extremely proud of these two outstanding females and it goes to show once again the power in the blood of the great T90.

• We are proud to be offering the pick of our two heifer pens. The dam of these heifers was our pick from the Star Lake Dispersal and needs little introduction! STAR Spiridge Kessey 321L ET has been a national champion in Denver and at JNHE and is the mother of a NWSS champion female, Valedictorian AND the grandam of a NWSS champion female, Mirror Image! Take the power of Kessey mated with two renowned bulls like 88X and Time’s a Wastin’ and we have literally created a rock solid foundation of females for our first production sale with show winning phenotype and an impressive EPD profile to boot! Proof this girl can still make them right; a full sib to the January pen was selected the Wisconsin State Fair champion Hereford female. We are only selling one so don’t miss out!

He is a full sibling to the popular herd bull DPH LH BF Launch 1310 currently owned with Langford Herefords and Burns Farms. • This is one of the most exciting matings we have ever offered. This one has purple running through her veins! The Keepsake cow has not only won the Nationals, but is now producing high sellers and breed changing herd sires across the country. Excel 8051 has made his mark producing heifers, steers and bulls that are working in all facets of the cattle industry. She is as cool fronted as you can make one with a huge hip and hind leg. She possesses the kind of rib and structural soundness the Hereford breed is striving for. She is due to calve to CRR About Time on April 5, 2015… the opportunities are endless. If you like making money and want a female ready to walk in the donor pen, come see us in Denver. She will be displayed in Show Time Cattle Company’s stalls. • 4019 is the most fault-free bull we have ever raised with a pedigree built around, arguably, some of the best cows in the breed: three Dams of Distinction dam 634, grandam 410 and grandam 298 which are all impact donors at Harrell Herefords. In my opinion, Hutton 109Z’s dam, NJW P606 72N Daydream 73S, is the best cow in the Hereford breed, raising the last three national champion polled bulls. On the topside of his pedigree you will find proven Sires of Distinction such as grandsire 552, grandsire 9213 and grandsire P606. Positive Influence is a bull that will put pressure on birth weight without sacrificing performance, conformation and structure. We see him as the next great horned heifer bull. Positive Influence is without question a foundation herd bull.
