MORE ABOUT THE PARKLANDS & THE KICK-OFF LUNCHEON:THE PARKLANDS OF FLOYDS FORK STATS:The Parklands is a donor-supported public park in Louisville, Kentucky stretching 4,000 acres between Shelbyville and Bardstown Roads. The Parklands is one of the largest and most ambitious metropolitan parks projects in the nation, and will be complete and open to the public by the spring of 2016. 21st Century Parks, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, manages the park through the establishment of an annual fund and endowment.

The Parklands provides world-class amenities including miles of hiking, biking, walking, and paddling trails, as well as a dog park, playgrounds and spraygrounds, and expansive lawns and facilities for community events. In 2015 The Parklands recorded nearly 1.4 million visits, with only a portion of the park system open to the public. More than 12,000 Louisvillians participated in outdoor education programming, of whom about 1,000 were scholarship students. Volunteers donated more than 8,000 hours and between construction, volunteerism, and our annual operations, we planted more than 8,600 trees. By the spring of 2016, The Parklands will have more than doubled in size in terms of open park acreage, and with that comes a need for more support.

A PARK FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS: Rooted in Louisville’s century-old legacy of parklands designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the Parklands mission reflects a belief that parks are green infrastructure that can provide livable communities now and for generations that follow 50-100 years from now.

The Parklands relies solely on donations, not tax dollars, for the annual operations. Because of the generosity of members, foundations, businesses and corporations, as well as attendees and sponsors of the annual Kick-Off Luncheon and Field & Fork events, we are able to maintain, program, and further develop this extraordinary public space without charging an entry fee. Together we work to enhance quality of life and help our community and economy grow in ways that are healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable for people of all ages, now and for future generations.

THE KICK-OFF LUNCHEON:In its third year, the Kick-Off Luncheon with Kirk Herbstreit is quickly becoming one of Louisville’s premier spring sports events. The event has grown each year, with 325 guests in 2013, 600 in 2015, and 1,000 planned for the 2016 event. May 16, 2016 is just 30 days after our local teams host their annual spring game, and a short 70 days before college fall practice begins - what an exciting time to hear from Kirk!

WHO BENEFITS: This unique fundraiser benefits The Parklands annual fund, which relies on the community to help raise nearly $2 million annually to provide world-class park experiences across nearly 4,000 acres. Our 2016 goal is to raise more than $200,000 from the Kick-Off Luncheon, including more than $40,000 in day-of donations. Your sponsorship, as well as your table attendees’ day-of donations, will help us to reach the goal line. The largest day-of donor in 2016 will be recognized on a commemorative bench plaque in The Parklands. This plaque will remain in place until the 2017 event.
