Dear Parishioners, Families and Friends, Have you ever considered a pilgrim-age to the Holy Land? Next March I will be leading one. On this pilgrim-age to the Holy Land you will join those pilgrims who, for two thousand years, “have gone in search of the

‘footprints’ of God in that land, rightly called ‘holy,’ pursuing them as it were in the stones, the hills, the wa-ters which provided the setting for the earthly life of the Son of God.” (Pope John Paul II, 1999).

You will pray in Nazareth at the place where the “Word became flesh” (John 1:14) through Mary's “yes.” You will visit the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem, walk around Manger Square, and visit Shepherd’s Field. There will be the opportunity to meditate at the Sea of Galilee. We will retrace the steps of Jesus through the holy city of Jerusalem: the Upper Room, Gethsemane, the Way of the Cross, Calvary, and the site of the Empty Tomb! The highlight of each day will be the celebration of Mass.

Our days will also include reflections, song, and the op-portunity to shop among the local merchants. We will pray for a just peace in the land where Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was born! Please join us on this extraordinary journey of faith. It is our hope that you will say, “YES” to this invitation to the most invaluable gift that you can ever give yourself - a pilgrimage to The Holy Land. And for those of you who wish, please also consider the op-tional extension to Jordan!

Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Joe

YOUTH MINISTRY REFLECTION… Keegan Ernest

Youth ministry was an incredibly important part of my life during my 4 years of high school. Upon entering my freshman year of high school Youth Ministry provided me with a place where I can express my faith, help serve oth-ers, but also stay in contact with kids who I may no longer see on a daily basis at school. During junior and senior year Youth Ministry also provided me with opportunities to be a leader in the parish community through programs like the Freshman Retreat or a night called “Pizza, Prayer, People expressing their Faith” that I began this year as a way to bring people together in a relaxed atmosphere to talk about whatever it is they need to talk about. Youth Ministry provided me with numerous opportu-nities to help and serve others in the St. Luke’s communi-ty. Through programs like leaf raking, the Veteran’s Day Breakfast and so many more I was able to not only help out lots of people, I got the chance to interact and make many new friends while doing so. I often accredit Youth Ministry for playing a large role in shaping who I have become as a person. Eventually I was able to take my love for the programs at Youth Ministry and translate that to the Campus Ministry at my high school where I would end up becoming very involved with the faith life. Had it not been for Youth Ministry I never would have discov-ered this passion that has helped shaped me into the per-son that I am today. Finally, Youth Ministry has been a place for me where I can practice and express my faith. During high school it can be very easy to get lost in the everyday shuffle of school, homework and after school activities so it was very helpful and comforting to have something like Youth Ministry there for me. In the midst of lots of craziness Youth Ministry was always a calming and reassuring presence. While I am now off to college and have gradu-ated on from Youth Ministry I hope to continue to help out in all the ways that I can and I hope to never forget the valuable lessons it has taught me.

“St. Luke’s donates 10% of its weekly collection through Sharing First . We donate to others be-fore attending to our own wants. Sharing First is unique not only because there is one

collection each week, but that we help the needy first. Please adjust your donation to include both Sharing First and St. Luke’s. Thank you for your generous support.

JUNE 10 supports CATHOLIC COMMUNICATIONS the amount of $1694 JUNE 17 supports APPALACHIA SERVICE PROJECT in the amount $1252 JUNE 24 supports (TODAY) PETER’S PENCE JULY 1 supports ST. LUKE’S FARM TO TABLE PROJECT

This will be the third summer that St Luke's Outreach will be sponsoring our "Farm to Table Project". This program provides fresh vegetables to local families in need. Every week, a volunteer picks up excess produce from the Heirloom Harvest CSA (behind St Luke's Cemetery) and delivers it to the Knights of Columbus on Willow Street. If needed, veggies can be washed and refrigerated there until distribution later that evening. Each week, every family receives two bags of fresh produce. Because prices are so high at local farm stands, the recipients are very grateful for this opportunity. By the way...if you have a garden with a bumper crop, please consider donating some veggies to St Luke's Outreach! Thank you!

The Nativity of St. John the Baptist “Behold one is coming after me; I am not

worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.” -ACTS 13:25

Stewardship is a lifestyle, it’s not a program or a process. It’s how we are called to live

our lives twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week! It challenges us to live “God-centered” lives, not “self-

centered” lives. Reflect on your daily activities, do you do them for the glory of God or for the glory of your

own name?

STEWARDSHIP CALL! Volunteer Opportunities are currently available in our Faith Formation Programs. Parishioners who are interested in sharing their faith with our young people are encouraged to contact Dianne Patrick to-day to find out how YOU can make a difference in the lives of St. Luke’s children. Call 508-366-8509 or email: [email protected] to make a difference! Immediate Openings for Catechists/Teachers (Parents, your children need you!) Tuesdays or Thursdays from 4-5PM: Grades 2-5 (looking for 4 teachers) Family Program (one Sunday/month, 3:45-5PM): Grades 4-7 & H S (looking for 5 Teachers)

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM WEEK

Will be cele-brated in dio-ceses nation-wide from June 22 to

June 29. Throughout the week we will focus on the importance of preserving the essential right of reli-gious freedom, both now and in the future, for Cath-olics and all people of faith. This year’s theme is “Serving Others in God’s Love” reminding us that religious liberty allows people of faith to serve God and others freely in ministries like healthcare, adop-tion and foster care, education, and migration and refugee services to name a few. The significant feast days during the week (Saints Thomas More and John Fisher – June 22, Saint John the Baptist – June 24, and Saints Peter and Paul – June 29) in-spire us to follow the example of these great saints who loved God above all and remained faithful in the face of adversity. Please visit www.usccb.org/ReligiousFreedomWeek to download the “Pray-Reflect-Act” one-pagers for each day on various religious liberty topics. These excellent resources are intended to inspire us to learn more about reli-gious liberty from a Catholic perspective, help us to pray about particular issues, and provide us with tools to act on what we learn. Additional infor-mation can be found at www.worcesterdiocese.org/religiousfreedomweek.
