MAJOR FUNCTIONS!

SOME OF THE MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM AND THE PERIPHERAL SYSTEM ARE: To control movement of the body based on sensory

information To send appropriate impulses to the muscles and glands The peripheral system connect the central nervous

system to the limbs and organs.

MAJOR PARTS!

There are three parts of the nervous system: the central nervous system (CNS), the peripheral nervous system (PNS), and the autonomic nervous system (ANS).CNS includes the brain and spinal cord.PNS is made up of all body nerves that are outside of the CNS.ANS controls involuntary actions of the bodily organs.

PATH OF THE NERVE IMPULSE

It begins with a stimulus. Noted by a sensory receptor, so it alerts a sensory neuron. The nerve impulse reaches the central nervous system (CNS) where it is directed to the motor neuron. From there it goes to the muscle and finally there is a response.

HOW DOES IT WORK WITH OTHERS?

The nervous must interact with all the body systems in a human. It sends signals to the brain to help other systems function. In the skeletal system bones provide calcium that is essential for proper function of the nervous systemThe brain (part of the nervous system) monitors respiratory volume and blood gas levelsThe autonomic nervous system controls the tone of the digestive tract.

FOUR INTERESTING FACTS!

There are more nerve cells in the human body than there are stars in the skyA newborn baby’s brain grows almost three times during the course of the first yearAn average adult male brain weighs about 1,375 poundsThe nervous system can transmit impulses as fast as 100mph
