PERSPECTIVES

Try to make movies ofinternational standard

Improvement of movie standard is thelifeblood of Myanmar’s film world. Filmartistes, technicians and producers are tofocus on meeting the standards of theirmovies. They have to try to improve more inall parts such as plot, acting and mode ofdress.

In making and screening global movies, modern technologies and equipment andgood sound effects are being used. It is foundthat their movies are penetrating theinternational market due to excellentperformance in all sectors plus the efforts offilm directors and stars.

With the assistance rendered by theState and the efforts made by those from thefilm world, Myanmar has been able to makemovies with better picture, colour and soundsystem. So it is necessary to continue toimprove the movie standard and producemovies of international standard till reachingthe global market.

Throughout the successive eras, thosefrom the Myanmar film industry were ableto uplift national integrity with the might ofarts. They have constantly been dischargingnational duties from the period ofindependence struggles to the present timeof building a new nation.

With the advent of globalization amongworld countries, alien culture such as arts, music and dress style of some countries isinfiltrating into Myanmar. Their ideologyand character has wielded influence on us.Therefore, the people, including the youth, are to be vigilant against such alien culture.

A movie has great influence on us. So,film artistes and producers are to try toproduce movies in which their acting andmode of dress are compatible with theMyanmar culture. All in all, MyanmarMotion Picture Asiayon and those from thefilm world are to make greater efforts toproduce movies of international standard.

Myanmaris blessed with thepolitically, economicallyand socially strategiclocation, temperateclimate pattern, richnatural resources andhuman resources. Therefore, perpetuation ofsovereignty is the mostindispensable nationalpolicy of the nation.

Thereis slight differencebetween their religiousfaiths, cultures, customsand traditions, but allnational races have sharedthe common nature ofleading a peaceful life andpeaceful coexistence alongwith bravery, uprightness, honesty and hospitalityfrom time immemorial. Our ancestors preservedand safeguarded theirmonarchy, sovereignty, law, literature and culturethroughout Tagaung,Srikestra, Bagan, Innwa,Sagaing, Pinya, Toungoo,Konbaung and Yadanabonperiods. In retrospect, KingAnawrahta unified thewhole country into the FirstMyanmar Empire inBagan Period; KingBayintnaung, the SecondMyanmar Empire in

Minivans drive up auto salesgrowth in China

BEIJING, 7 Feb—China’s automobile marketcontinued its robust growth in January, with sales surging 84 percent from a year earlier, heavilyboosted by minivans, China Passenger Car Associa-tion said on Friday.

Rao Da, the associ-ation’s secretary-general, saida total of 1,218,722 cars, sport-utility vehicles, multi-purpose vehicles and minivans were sold last month,an increase of 84.2 percent year-on-year and 5.1percent from December.

The sales boost was largely driven by the minivansegment, which jumped 88.9 percent year-on-year and44.4 percent from the previous month. This wasmainly a result of subsidies for trade-ins and tax cutsintroduced as part of the government’s stimulusprogramme.

12 pct of recent vetsunemployed

WASHINGTON, 7 Feb—Veterans of the Afghan andIraq Wars are more likely to be unemployed than non-veterans, while the foreign-born and disabled are morelikely to be jobless than the general population.

These figures were included for the first time onFriday in the Labour Department’s monthly employ-ment report. Overall, the report included mildly posi-tive news: the nation’s jobless rate fell to 9.7 percentin January from 10 percent.

For veterans who have served since September2001, joblessness is higher: 12.6 percent, comparedto 10.4 percent for non-vets. Both groups have higherrates than the national total because the figures aren’tseasonally adjusted.

When veterans from all other periods are included, the picture is brighter: the unemployment rate for allvets is 9.6 percent, below the non-vet rate.
