Daejeon University
fostering
Creative innovation
and strong passion
Preparing for a new decade
to complete half a century of history
Since its establishment in 1980 with the founding philosophy of ‘National Development, Creative Culture
and Social Service,’ Daejeon University has become a representative private school in the central region of
Korea. Despite difficult situations at home and abroad, all members of DJU have made various efforts to
practice the founding philosophy and realize the Hyehwa value system.
In recent years, we have been directing our strength in preparing for the forthcoming Fourth Industrial
Revolution by establishing a strong industry-academia cooperation system that connects studies to
practical applications and implementing continuous educational innovation under the slogan of 'Solid
Foundation & Special Experiences'. As a result, DJU was selected for the Advancement for College
Education Program and was subsequently named as an ‘Autonomous Improvement University,’ which is
the highest rating in the University Basic Competency Diagnosis.
We are expanding various educational activities so that students can further enhance their self-directed
academic competencies. For example, DJU is practicing the innovation of learning support system to
foster creative talents with core competence required in the future society by implementing teaching and
learning based on 7 core competencies, training teaching and learning methods to professors and students,
mentoring, student counseling by professors and experts, and employment support programs by stage,
module, and level.
DJU is also enhancing the industry-academia cooperation system that links education with industrial sites.
For example, we are supporting local communities and implementing industry-academia convergence
educational programs such as Nano degree, capstone design, short and long-term field training, internship,
start-up activity support, 3-way living lab, and corporate technology development support.
In addition, Hyehwa Residential College, a living and after-school learning community that opened in March
2018, is operating whole-person education programs such as community education, reading, discussion,
language, drone, startup, music, art, DIY, and sports with a new educational aim that is suitable for the
Fourth Industrial Revolution Era characterized by hyper-connectivity, superintelligence, and superfusion.
Looking back at the past 40 years, we now make a new resolution with the aim of presenting a new
standard of future university. As the reality of education changes rapidly, DJU will strive to be faithful to the
fundamentals of education. We believe that the mission of universities in the era of the Fourth Industrial
Revolution is to train true human beings with virtue and wisdom besides teaching students specialized
knowledge in their major field of study. DJU will support its students, making sure that they accumulate
special experiences in industry-academia cooperation, RC programs and international exchanges on top of
solid foundation of knowledge and advance into society as talented people required by a new society.
We will take steps into a new decade to complete the half-century history of DJU by listening to the voices
of all DJU members and solving conflicts and problems with cooperation and wisdom.
Thank you.
LeeJong-seo, President of Daejeon University
