In November, Synergis Holdings Chairman Wilfred Wong received the degree of Doctor of Humanities honoris causa from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and gave a well-received public lecture there.

The honorary doctoral degree was awarded on 25 November at HKBU’s 54th commencement ceremony. Mr. Wong was recognised for his outstanding professional achievements as well as his remarkable contributions to society.

Mr. Wong was described as a business and political leader dedicated to serving the community. In addition to leading Synergis Holdings, he is the Chairman and CEO of Hsin Chong Construction Group Ltd, the Chairman of Hong Kong Arts Development Council, the Chairman of Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service, the Chairman of The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society Limited etc.

On 18 November, Mr. Wong delivered a public lecture as part of HKBU’s ‘Brilliance of Civilization’ series featuring the school’s honorary degree recipients. Titled ‘Connect to Win,’ Mr. Wong’s remarks drew upon his decades of diverse professional experiences. He spoke on the importance of building strong interpersonal relationships.

Mr. Wong rephrased U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s famous phrase when advising the HKBU lecture attendees: “Ask not what otherscandoforyou.Askwhatyoucandoforothers.”Specifically,Mr. Wong emphasised that, when we treat others with sincere good motivations, good things can happen to us in return.

The highly engaging lecture was delivered before an audience comprising several of Mr. Wong’s family members and colleagues.

新昌管理集團主席王英偉先生於11月25日舉行的香港浸會大學第五十四屆畢業典禮上，獲頒授榮譽人文學博士學位，以表揚其卓越的專業成就及對社會的重大貢獻。他於同月在香港浸會大學主持公開講座，深受歡迎。

王英偉先生致力促進商業及政界發展，對社會服務不遺餘力。除了擔任新昌管理集團主席外，他同時為新昌營造集團主席兼行政總裁，以及香港藝術發展局主席、公務員薪俸及服務條件常務委員會主席、香港國際電影節協會有限公司主席等職務。

為慶祝頒授榮譽博士，香港浸會大學於11月18日舉辦「文明的光輝」活動，王先生負責主持其中一個公開講座。他以「人脈網絡　致勝之道」為題，分享數十年來在不同範疇的專業經驗，並指出建立強大人際關係的重要性。

王英偉先生在講座中修改了美國總統約翰‧甘迺迪的名言：「不要問別人可以為你做甚麼，要問自己可以為別人做甚麼。」他特別強調要以真誠待人，好事自然來。

當日，王英偉的親友及同事亦到場支持這次富有意義的講座。

Dr. Fan observed, “We know people are accustomed to using communications software with instant messaging functions such as WhatsApp, LINE, and WeChat, so the ‘customer request’ function in Synergis Community was designed bearing all this in mind. When clients have queries, complaints or comments, they can write them down, upload photos through the application, and send to us directly. This function enables our colleagues to respond quickly and greatly boosts management efficiencyandservicequality.”

Since the start of the fourth quarter of 2013, Synergis Community has been in trial use at certain properties. Eventually it will be implemented in phases at all Synergis properties and estates so that every client can participate in Synergis Community’s interactive communications platform.

Enhanced and Additional Features Coming in FutureDr. Fan described the future development potential of Synergis Community as considerable. “In future, Synergis will continue to improve Synergis Community and expand its features, such as establishing a dedicated forum for clients to increase interaction among clients, giving clients a sense of belonging to their properties, and adding a ‘property facilities reservation’ function permitting clients to book on-site sports venues, club facilities and venues through the application.” He added, “Synergis Community will also empower clients to order products and services offered by Synergis subsidiary companies. These exciting developments will allow clients to experience first-hand Synergis’comprehensive and high-quality services.”

Macau Galaxy Resort & Casino Phase II is one of Galaxy Entertainment Group’s key development projects. After Phase II of the project is completed, the resort and casino’s entertainment space will increase, and its shopping area will expand to over 100,000 square meters to accommodate more than 200 stores. Meanwhile, more than 45 international restaurants will be established, increasing the total number of restaurants to 100.

Hsin Chong Interiors and Special Projects Division received a contract for fitting outworks, including ceiling works, stone works, glass works and balustrades for the retail area’sgroundandfirstfloors,coveringapproximately14,000squaremeters.

The project commenced in late September 2013 and is expected to be completed by April 2014.

澳門銀河酒店渡假城第二期是銀河娛樂集團的重點發展項目。第二期建成後，除了會擴大渡假城的娛樂場空間，購物面積亦將擴增至超過100,000平方米，開設逾200間商店，並增設超過45間國際餐飲食肆，令總數達至100間。

新昌室內裝飾及特殊項目部接獲該項目的裝修工程，包括天花、石工、玻璃及地下至一樓零售位置的欄杆工程，面積約14,000平方米。

工程已於2013年9月下旬展開，預算於2014年4月完成。

Hsin Chong Interiors and Special Projects Division recently received several lift works contracts, including the alteration and addition of new lift works at Aberdeen Marina Club and Cornwall House.

In September 2013, Hsin Chong Interiors and Special Projects Division launched two alterations and additions of new lift works. The Aberdeen Marina Club’s lift work includes demolition of an existing lift lobby and lift shaft as well as alternation and addition works of a new lift, lift shafts and a lift machine room. The work is expected to be completed in May 2014.

The lift work at Cornwall House Taikoo Place includes alteration and addition work to the existing lift shaft and combining two old shafts to form a mega-sized lift shaft for a new freight lift capable of operating loads weighing up to 7 tonnes. The work commenced in mid-September and is expected to be completed in June 2014.

In October this year, Hsin Chong Interiors and Special Projects DivisionwasappointedbyFookWooGrouptoconstructafive-storeyindustrial building in Tseung Kwan O.

Fook Woo Group is principally engaged in trading and producing tissue paper and recycled greyboard. The Group also trades recycled paper andmaterialsaswellasprovidesdestructionservicesforconfidentialmaterials. The newly constructed factory will establish workshops andofficestosupporttheGroup’srecyclingbusinessandadvancedrecycling technology research. The project was launched in October 2013 and is expected to be completed in July 2014.

Construction Work of Fook Woo Group’s New Industrial Building 福和集團新工廈建造工程

於今年10月，新昌室內裝飾及特殊項目部接獲福和集團委聘，為該集團於將軍澳興建一座五層高的工業大廈。

福和集團主要業務為買賣及製造生活用紙及再造灰板紙、買賣回收紙及物料以及提供機密材料銷毀服務。新興建的廠房設有工場及辦公室，以配合該集團的回收業務，以及先進回收技術的科研工作。工程已於2013年10月開展，預算將於2014年7月完成。

新昌室內裝飾及特殊項目部最近接獲數份升降機工程合約，包括為深灣遊艇會及康和大廈提供升降機加改建工程。

於2013年9月，新昌室內裝飾及特殊項目部先後開展了兩項升降機加改建工程。香港仔深灣遊艇會的工程包括拆卸現有升降機大堂及升降機槽，加改建升降機、升降機槽及升降機機房。有關工程預算於2014年5月完成。

至於太古坊康和大廈的工程就包括加改建現時的升降機槽，將兩個現有升降機槽合併，改裝成足以承載最高7噸重量的貨運升降機。工程已於9月中旬展開，預算於2014年6月完成。

Developed by China Metallurgical Group Corporation, Qiqihar Children City is one of the largest commercial development projects in northeast China in recent years. Located in Haksong central business area, Bukui Nan Street, Longsha District, transportation to and from the area is convenient. This children’s-themed commercial wonderland combines children’s entertainment and a nurturing pre-school environment with a shopping experience.

With a total construction area of 14,000 square meters, Qiqihar Children City has three stories. It also contains a two-storey underground car park that offers nearly 300 parking spaces. With colourful and eye-catching decor, the entire mall is themed as a children’s wonderland to give consumers with families a new and inviting shopping experience. Since 19 July, Synergis Property Services (Beijing) Co. Ltd has provided an investment agency service, a commercial operational consultant service in the run-up to the mall’s opening, and a commercial operational consultant management service for Qiqihar Children City’s operation.

From 26 to 30 June, Mr. Hu Bo and Mr. Dai Yuan Tao, representatives of Metropolis Holding (Tianjin) Co. Ltd and New Oriental Education & Technology Group Inc., visited Hong Kong to acquire operational and managerial experience at Hong Kong’s education institutions as well as exchange ideas. Arranged by Synergis, the visit involved several educational institutions and properties including HKU SPACE – Kowloon East Campus, the Hong Kong Federation Youth Groups Building and Hollywood Terrace.

Partnership Seminar Promotes Exchanges合作伙伴研討會促進交流

Synergis held a partnership seminar at Eaton Hotel on 16 April to strengthen its communications with contractors and suppliers and thus build closer collaborative relationships. At the annual seminar, management from Synergis as well as district managers and technical managers from different districts met with contractors and suppliers. They shared information on the company’s latest business developments and addressed policy requirements relating to occupational, safety and health issues as well as approved contractor list management and integrity. After the seminar, a tea gathering for participants took place to build relationships and encourage exchanges with one another.

In recent months Synergis has successfully received several security service contracts for diverse projects involving large-scale residential, commercial buildings and government facilities. Among these, the Kornhill Gardens service contract started on 1 September in which Synergis is to provide comprehensive security services.

Located at Island East, Kornhill Gardens consists of ten blocks of 25-storey to 35-storey residential buildings, providing a total of 2,180 residential units. Synergis was appointed by The Incorporated Owners of Kornhill Gardens to provide security service for the entire estate.

Other newly received security service contracts include two contracts for sewage treatment in Ngong Ping and Stonecutters Island. In total, Synergis is now providing security services for eight different sewage treatment plants.

Synergis was recently commissioned by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to provide comprehensive facility management services for Oil Street Art Space, a grade two historic building.

Located at Oil Street in North Point, Oil Street Art Space was built in 1908 and was formerly known as the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. The project represents a new exchange platform for visual art, aiming to nurture young artistic talent while encouraging the public to come together and participate in and create community art.

Since 1 September, Synergis has provided comprehensive facility management services for this project, comprising guided tour services, customer services and management services.

MTR Disneyland Resort Line Service Contract Underway港鐵迪士尼綫服務合約

新昌管理自2009年8月開始為港鐵公司多條綫路提供客務中心及後勤會計管理服務，包括港島綫、將軍澳綫及西鐵綫。最近，新昌管理再次接獲港鐵公司的合約，為迪士尼綫提供列車客戶服務。服務合約於10月1日開始。

Since August 2009, Synergis has provided customer service centre and back-end accountancy services for multiple MTR lines, including the Island Line, Tseung Kwan O Line and West Rail Line. Recently Synergis received a contract from MTR to provide railway ambassador service for the Disneyland Resort Line. The contract commenced on 1 October.

On 8 July, the Interiors and Special Projects Division attended the Construction Safety Forum and Award Presentation Ceremony 2013 held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The residential development project at No. 3 & 5 Ede Road, Kowloon Tong, was awarded a silver prize for ‘Best Occupational Health Program to Prevent Heat Stroke at Work’ and a merit award for ‘Best Safety Enhancement Program for Working at Height’. The awards recognised our active promotion of a culture mindful of occupational, safety and health concerns.

Vision Day, a key annual employee activity, was held in the auditorium of the Kowloonbay International Trade and Exhibition Centre on 26 October. During the event, number of departments and committee representatives took turns promoting the company’s core values: heart and harmony, can-do attitude and commitment to quality through games, photo exhibitions, dramatic interpretations and more dynamic displays of company spirit.

In addition to these performances, the quality circle competition represented another important part of the day. Each property was tasked with forming a quality circle team and proposing high-quality innovations and suggestions to address problems encountered at work, with the goal of improving the level of service.

rubbish bins to provide a low-cost solution to the shortage of recycling receptacles in housing estates. The team were named the victors and won the Champion Proposal Award. Junk Bay Circle’s ‘Unmatchable Match’ and HKU SPACE Circle’s ‘Queue Stand Mini’ took second and third place respectively. Their proposals successfully improved the quality of property and facility management services and were praised by customers. Junk Bay Circle members also earned the Best Presentation Award for their brilliant on-stage performance.

Annual Strategic Planning Workshops 2014 Held2014周年策略工作坊The Annual Strategic Planning Workshop 2014 was held at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Beas River Country Club in November and drew more than 60 colleagues. Synergis Chairman Dr. Wilfred Wong and Managing Director Dr. CH Fan spoke about the company’s direction as well as discussed a targeted strategic development plan with the participants.

In addition, the Mainland Annual Strategic Planning Workshop was held in Beijing in early December. Working with Managing Director Dr. CH Fan, representatives from different cities attended the workshop and formulated the key issues and future working targets of Mainland businesses.

Staff members from both Hong Kong and Mainland China benefited from the workshops. Closer cooperation andexpanding business are expected in the coming year.

From 15 to 16 June, the Beijing team held a summer team-building trip. Colleagues from Zhongguancun International Mall, EC Mall and New Oriental North Building travelled to the Beijing suburb of Yanqing and Chengde Mulan Hunting Ground to enjoy a relaxing two-day outing.

The Zhongguancun International Mall team then visited Guyaju Site and Songshan forest located within Yanqing. They trekked to a cliff cave dug generations ago, enjoying the pine and cypress trees in Songshan and other unique sights of nature. They also participated in a lively simulated war game to experience the rush of team spirit in battle.

For their part, the EC Mall and New Oriental North Building teams chose to journey to Mulan Hunting Ground located at Chengde, Hebei. After a seven-hour ride, they arrived at Saihanba National Forest Park, proceeding to Seven-star Lake and Taifeng Lake. There they rode horses in the grasslands, drove a sport utility vehicle, and tasted roast sheep in the area. All enjoyed their experience together and hope to return again.

Beijing Team Summer Trip Enhances Unity北京團隊夏季遊增添凝聚力

北京團隊於6月15日至16日舉行了夏季郊遊之旅，中關村國際商城同事、歐美匯大廈及新東方北樓同事，分別前往了北京延慶郊區及承德木蘭圍場享受兩日一夜的郊遊樂，舒展身心。

中關村國際商城團隊前往位於北京延慶郊區的古崖居和松山森林旅遊區，遊覽先民開鑿在峭壁上的崖居洞穴、欣賞松山的天然松柏和獨特的大自然美景，參與了野外游擊活動，體驗「戰場」下的團隊精神！

至於歐美匯大廈及新東方北樓項目團隊就選擇了遊覽位於河北省承德的木蘭圍場，他們經過7個小時的路程，抵達塞罕壩國家森林公園，遊覽七星湖、泰豐湖、在草原上騎馬、玩越野車、品嘗了草原特色「烤全羊」等，盡興而回！

The ‘Moon Cake Transfer Program 2013’ held by St. James’ Settlement People’s Food Bank reached a successful end. This year the organiser received nearly 10,000 moon cakes which were sent with warm wishes before the Mid-Autumn Festival to over 8,000 families.

On 14 September, Synergis and its parent company Hsin Chong Construction Group Ltd partnered with St. James’ Settlement Wun Sha Elderly Centre for an early Mid-autumn Festival visit as part of an on-going commitment to care for the community.

During the Saturday afternoon, around 60 enthusiastic volunteers, comprising Hsin Chong and Synergis colleagues as well as their families and friends, visited more than 60 households of single and low-income elderly living in Lai Tak Tsuen to extend joyful greetings.

Volunteers took time to engage in casual chats with the seniors and presented them gift packs and good cheer. Both the residents and volunteer participants expressed appreciation for their enjoyable time together.

World Vision Hong Kong and AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited jointly organised the 22nd edition of its ‘Used Book Recycling Campaign 2013’, which concluded in July. This year, a total of 36 properties under Synergis’ managed portfolio participated in the campaign. The collected books were then sold for charity at Plaza Hollywood from 31 July to 7 August and at Tsuen Wan Panda Place from 9 to 14 August. All donations raised are to be used to fund the construction of a new teaching building in Liannan Nan Gang Secondary School.

Synergis’ facility management services in Hong Kong Airport have been recognised by their customers. On three occasions this year, the Asia Airfreight Terminal team detected suspicious individuals trying to use fake identity cards to apply for permits to enter a restricted area. In praising the team’s efforts, customers sent letters of appreciation to the team members.

The most recent incident occurred in May when a suspected illegal immigrant entered AsiaAirfreightTerminaltoapplyforarestrictedareapermit.Adutyofficer’ssuspicionswerearousedwhencheckingtheperson’sidentitycard,sotheofficerdiscreetlycalledpolice, leading to the suspicious person’s arrest.

The Asia Airfreight Terminal team also actively assists police in enhancing the airport’s security services. On 22 August, the team participated in a promotional campaign titled ‘Combating illegal employment’ organised by the Hong Kong Police Force Airport District, the Labour Department and the Immigration Department. The team helped convey the campaign’s important message to each tenant. As a result of their efforts, the teammembersreceivedacertificateofappreciationfromtheHongKongPoliceForce.

Asia Airfreight Terminal Commended for Excellent Security Services 亞洲空運中心卓越保安服務獲嘉許

新昌管理於香港機場區的設施管理服務一直深受業戶讚賞，屢獲業戶嘉許。單是今年，亞洲空運中心團隊三次識破有人涉嫌試圖以假身份證申請禁區許可證，獲得客戶的嘉許信以作表揚。

最近一次事件發生於今年5月，一位懷疑非法入境者進入亞洲空運中心申請禁區許可證，當值職員查看其身份證時有所懷疑，暗中報警，最終疑犯被警方拘捕。

除此以外，亞洲空運中心團隊亦積極協助警方提升機場區保安服務。於2013年8月22日，團隊參與了香港警務處機場警區、勞工處及入境事務處聯合舉辦的「打擊聘用非法勞工」宣傳活動，協助將有關訊息傳達給各租戶，獲香港警務處頒發感謝狀。
